Top 6@6 Week #30: Post 6 Faves by The Cars With Week #29s Canned Heat/JJ Cale Results

Subtitled: #30…The Poll’s Pearl Anniversary…But this isn’t the Janis Joplin Poll.

Another Tueday, Another Closed Poll. Sorry for the delay…was on an extended golf outing down in VA…I strongly recommend a round at either Kiskiack or StoneHouse if you’re ever in the Williamsburg area.

Last Week’s Canned Heat Poll Tally: 8 Voters / 45 Selections, which garnered more feedback than Week 29’s J J Cale Supplemental Poll with: 7 Voters / 39 Selections.
Factoid of the Week: 4 voters (Hugh Jass, Labdad, Sassy & Spit) voted in both polls.

After the ZZ Top poll, sometime this decade, the plan is to compile all the votes from the SDMB & post them in a few threads. Then I’ll burn a several volume CD set & mail ‘em out to the voters who helped keep these threads going. The scrap-heap of past polls continues to grow: Canned Heat § J J Cale § Johnny Cash § Cab Calloway § Dave Clark Five § Bonzo Dog Band§ Cake§ Beck (Hanson) § Jimmy Buffett § Jeff Buckley § The Byrds § Buffalo Springfield § Bush § Kate Bush § Jackson Browne § James Brown § Better Than Ezra § Banarama § David Bowie Boston § Bon Jovi § Blur § Belle & Sebastian§ Blue Öyster Cult § Blondie§ Blink 182§ Black Sabbath§ Black Crowes§ Bjork§ B-52’s§ Chuck Berry§ Beastie Boys§ Jeff Beck§ The Band§ Beach Boys§ Beatles§ Animals§ Tori Amos§ Allman Brothers§ AC/DC § Abba& Aerosmith polls.

5th: Week 29 Results:
Tabulation Notes: Call it a breeze, a lot of similar votes and not a huge tally. But both polls had a lot more responses than I woulda thunk. The accounting department at the 6@6 corporate offices tried to be careful to not screw up the results…like they did with the Beatles “Day in The Life / A Day in the Life”…if you find any errors please report them.

At last, a band I actually like! It’s been a while since we had an act I didn’t have to struggle to think of 1 or 2 good songs for!

A lot of worthy songs didn’t make my list. The best 6 are:

  1. You’re All I’ve Got Tonight
  2. Candy-O
  3. Bye Bye Love

I hate doing this, because I feel I should only vote if I can pick at least six, but this song rocks my world. So add one for You Might Think.

And, I don’t think My Best Friend’s Girl is too bad either, so I’ll put in a vote for that.

(Actually the Demo version of MBFG is my 2nd fave, it’s really quite different from the release version but maybe alt. takes don’t belong in polls.)

After my three favorites, I like almost all of their songs equally, so I just picked somewhat randomly.

  1. Magic (I played this every single afternoon leaving school until summer came. Then I played it all summer long and the tape was worn out and sounded terrible, then I played it for several months after that. I stopped after the tape broke the third time.)
  2. You Might Think
  3. Hello Again
  4. All Mixed Up
  5. Dangerous Type
  6. Let the Good Times Roll
  1. My best friend’s girl (When I was a junior in high school I broke up with my girlfriend of 1.5 years. About a week later I found out that she had gone out with my best friend over the weekend whom I gave a ride to school every morning. That Monday I went to his house to pick him up and he silently got in. We both knew what had transpired and as he sat down, the radio began to play this song. I shit you not. The tension was so thick I almost choked. It was the last time he rode with me to school. She eventually broke his heart and we sort of made up, but it was never the same afterwards.)
  2. Magic
  3. Since you’ve gone
  4. Drive
  5. Candy-O
  6. You’re all I’ve got tonight
