#1 Results from last week’s Animals poll. The Animals (predictably) garnered a lot fewer responses than the Aerosmith, Allman Brothers, or Tori Amos polls.
Coming in first: House of the Rising Sun with 4 votes.
The runners up:[ul][li]We Gotta Get Out of This Place & Boom Boom with 3 votes. []When I Was Young, It’s My Life & Bury My Body with 2 votes, and []Winds of Change, Story of Bo Diddley, Sky Pilot & Montery with 1 vote each.[/ul] [/li]
#2 This weeks poll. The first of the “B” bands: The Beatles. Please refrain from posting selections of solo works. Each band member will have their own thread if we ever make it to the H’s, L’s, M’s or for that matter, the S’s. If you feel we’ve alphabetically passed over a band or two, say so…if not, next week will feature Jeff Beck.
On with the poll, here are my 6 (only 6) Beatles picks:
6. Helter Skelter
5. Paperback Writer
4. Rain
3. Taxman
2. Why Don’t We Do It In The Road?
- Within You Without You
6-I Want You (She’s So Heavy)
5-Rain
4-Strawberry Fields Forever
3-The Long and Winding Road
2-Yesterday
1-Here, There, and Everywhere
Shoot… with the Beatles, you could have 75 different songs with 1 vote each!
But my top 6 (if we must keep it to 6):
- Ticket to Ride
- Things We Said Today
- Hey Bulldog
- Here, There and Everywhere
- Hard Day’s Night
- I’m Looking Through You
Dang… I can’t believe how many songs I’m forced to leave off this list. And I KNOW that, if you’d posted this same question a month ago, I might’ve give 6 completely different songs!
- While My Guitar Gently Weeps
- I Am The Walrus
- A Day In The Life
- Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds
- Eleanor Rigby
- Rocky Raccoon
astorian, i feel your pain. this was no easy task.
- Can’t Buy Me Love
- Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds
- Penny Lane
- Blackbird
- In My Life
- No Reply
It was hard enough to pick just six songs, let alone trying to rank those six. Ask me again tomorrow and I might have an entirely different list.
- The Things We Said Today
- You’ve Got to Hide Your Love Away
- Here Comes the Sun
- Eleanor Rigby
- While My Guitar Gently Weeps
- Hey Jude
I agree with everyone who said it’s too hard to pick just 6, and even rank them. I’m obviously in mellow/melancholy mood today. Maybe we should rank Beatles songs by generas. Or rank Beatles albums.
Man, it’s hard to pick sixteen, let along six. My choices:
- When I’m 64
- Got to Get You Into My Life
- Taxman
- Revolution (the single, not Revolution #1 or #9)
- Hey Bulldog (from the Yellow Submarine album – a truly great and unjustifyably obscure rocker by Lennon)
- Abbey Road Medley (Starting with “You Never Give Me Your Money” – these fit together so well that they’re really one single piece of music).
[li]Blackbird[/li][li]And Your Bird Can Sing[/li][li]Here Comes the Sun[/li][li]Two of Us[/li][li]Happiness is a Warm Gun[/li][li]You Won’t See Me[/li]
I’m not even that big of a beatles fan but this is still hard.
- Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds
- Hey Jude
- Paper Back Writer
- Helter Skelter
- Maxwell Silver’s Hammer
- Yellow Submarine
dead0man
- No reply
- I’m a loser
- Get back
- The long and winding road
- Eight days a week
You can tell what my mother used to play when I was a wee small thing to get me to go to sleep.
And the Houdini-esque number 6…
- Here comes the sun
- She’s leaving home
- Blackbird
- Yesterday
- Eleanor Rigby
- Lucy in the sky with diamonds
- A day in the life
Tough - and surprised to see some Beatles song I thoroughly dislike in other posters lists…
I went through a list of all The Beatles songs and I picked 20 potentials. After about 15 minutes of deliberating, here is my reluctant list:
6. Misery
5. Doctor Robert
4. Paperback Writer
3. Eleanor Rigby
2. If I Fell
- I’ll Be Back
I’m suprised there aren’t more songs from Hard Day’s Night on the lists here. I’d say as far as individual songs go, Hard Day’s Night is in the top three Beatles albums.
