First: Results from Fish42’s requested The Band poll from week #7. For the most part; predictable…What! No fans of Robbie Robertson’s solo work? Now history, we can now add it to the pile of [ul] [li]Beach Boys, [/li][li]Beatles, []Animals, []Tori Amos, []Allman Brothers, and []Aerosmith. polls[/ul]All right, here are your Band Picks: [/li]
First Place: The Weight…With 8 votes
Second Place: The Night They Drove Ol’ Dixie Down…With 7 votes
Third Place: **Up On Cripple Creek ** and The Shape I’m In…Tied With 5 votes each.
Runners Up: [ul][li]Stage Fright 4 votes. []Chest Fever and King Harvest tied with 3 votes each. []Long Black Veil and Rag Mama Rag tied with 2 votes each.[/ul][/li]Honorable Mentions: (With 1 vote each):[ul] [li] Daniel and the Sacred Harp [] It Makes No Difference[] Jemima Surrender[]Rockin’ Chair[] Showdown At Big Sky (Robertson Solo)[] Somewhere Down The Crazy River (Robertson Solo)[] The River Hymn[] Theme from The Last Waltz[] This Wheel’s on Fire.[/ul][/li]Secondly: This weeks poll. The fourth of the “B” bands: Jeff Beck / The Jeff Beck Group. (Refrain from Yardbirds selections, they’ll have their own poll if we ever get to the Y’s). Once again, if you feel we’ve alphabetically passed over a band say so…if not, next week will feature The Beastie Boys.
A small aside: I’m not at all biased toward today’s contemporary artists, it’s just in most cases their smaller sized discographies would make selecting 6 favorite tracks a rather difficult or daunting task.
On with the poll. Here are my 6 Jeff Beck picks:
- You Shook Me
- Beck’s Bolero
- Gets Us All In The End
- I Ain’t Superstitious
- Freeway Jam
- Going Down Even though it’s not my all time favorite song, I think it is the epitome of rock music
Thanking you all in advance
