Toronto Dopers?

Dunno how I missed this one up until now…

Anyway, I don’t have anything against Mississauga (since I live there), but Scarborough is a long-ish haul from there. The last TorDope ended up being at Front and University, after several rounds of discussions. This is especially true with an out-of-towner attending, if they don’t know the Toronto area too well. Don’t want Kwijibo not to come, though… :frowning:

That said, I’m interested in attending, and I suspect theotherangel will want to as well.

<sniff>

What a pal.

I know the area well. I worked down there. I was just thinking of something easy for everyone. Sans traffic and parking costs. (With a bit of Geographic bias thrown in.)

You guys couldn’t organize a shag in a cathouse!

You wanna get to Mississauga on Friday afternoon? Take the GO Train from Union to Square One. Then, to get back downtown, take the GO Bus.

I just didn’t want to sem presumptuous.

I have the farthest to travel, therefore incurring the most time and money. I just want to keep it as even for everyone as possible.

Hope the Marg Delahunty reference gets taken with the spirit it was intended! (Any of you see the episode where she said that to Stockwell Day?)

If you do end up going to the Square One area, you might want to try Alice Fazooli’s. This clip is from the downtown restaurant, but the Mississauga version is very similar.

And KimKatt, while you’re hanging out downtown, my favourite spot is the Chubby Subby, 874 Yonge St, just north of Bloor. Has the holy trifecta of restaurants:

  1. it’s good
  2. the portions are huge
  3. and it’s reasonably priced

All I ask is that this thread stays active, so I can monitor what the final decision is. I was unable to make it to the last one downtown, but maybe this time, I can.

I’m northeast of TO, in York Region. Downtown is a better choice for me than Mississauga, but the majority can rule in this case. Still, I’m pretty mobile in spite of having a crazy business schedule, so just keep me (well, everybody in the area) posted. Thanks!

I may be in. Let’s see more information!

Well, I organized the last one. I can do it again, unless someone else what’s to step up to the plate. Kwyjibo, were you saying that you’d like to do it to keep it equitable?

Oh, and D18, Alice Fazooli’s is not a bad idea (except for me, since I eat at the downtown one on a regular basis :D). However, Canyon Creek Chop House over near the Chapter’s at Square One, is also excellent (and happens to be owned by SIR Corp, the same company that does Alice’s, Moose Winooski’s, Al Frisco’s and Jack Astor’s).

And that, of course, was supposed to be

And Trivial Pursuit and the Brampton Battalion! Never heard of the Chop House. Mrs. D18 and I will have to try it sometime.

That was my plan. A location that is easy to get to for all parties.

I understand that there are some who are on the east end, but my thought was that even though Mississauga is on the west end, it is easy to get to. (Now I am going on the assumption that people are driving, but to seems that not everyone is.)

For those well west of the city, like myself in Kitchener, it does cut down on a huge amount of travel time. (But granted, that is a selfish reason.)

The furthest to travel?

'Scuse me folks, I’m not even from the Toronto area. I’ve got dibs on claiming the farthest to travel and most inconvenient title

That said, here goes:

I would love for as many people as possible to come.

I am only in T.O. for 3 days, so my location options and time are both somewhat limited.

I will officially be coming in to town on Thursday, and as such Mississauga is not going to work for me. There’s the time, travel, not knowing my way around - too many issues to work out.

Now, we’re jumping all over the place here, so looks like somebody’s got to take charge. Since I called this little meeting, I’m gonna take the floor, okay? Okay. (but thanks for the offer, Cerowyn!)

Downtown it is, folks. I truly hope those out of town can make arrangements to get there, as I would love to meet everyone.

I’m thinking Friday late afternoon/evening/night. I’m open to suggestions on locations, but please keep it somewhere relatively close (and I mean like walking or subway close!) to Eaton Centre, so’s little old directionally and transportationally challenged me can figure out how to get there.

Kwyjibo, please come… :):(

How can I say no to such a face?

Friday works for me as I work in Mississauga anyway. I could head to Square-1 and take the Bus, then Subway downtown.

Ok. I’m in. Now a location.

Cerowyn, you seem to have a good grasp on the DT area.

I worked on Front, so I know there is a Casey’s on Front and University. (Kim that is right next to Union Station which is right in the core of the city. You can get to anywhere from there.) and Planet Hollywood is just up the street.

(My 2 cents)

I’m in as well. Kim, I work near the Eaton Centre, so if we decide on a place and you’re not quite sure where it is, we can meet beforehand and I can show you around. How’s that?

I know this won’t be helpful in any way, but I have no preferences concerning the watering hole/respectable restaurant. Union Station/Front Street would be great for those who have to commute (thanks for sticking around, Kwyjibo. We owe you one.)

YAY!!!

Kwyjibo is coming!

I barely know you, but I was feeling all bad… Now I can be all happy again. Cool.

Casey’s is cool if it’s like Casey’s at home. I’ve never been too impressed with PH, but I’ve never been to the one in T.O.

Globetrotter, get in here!

Ahem.

Casey’s is alright (and we had the last one at Armadillo’s, so the location works). The only reservation (NPI) I’d have is the noise level. Our last experience led us to believe that a quieter place would have been more appropriate (as was the case in Montreal and San Francisco, the other two Doper get-together’s I’ve been to).

Alice Fazooli’s is probably a good choice [nod to D18 for the original suggestion]. The downtown one is at Adelaide & John Streets.

Thoughts?

I know the 'Dillo. Nice place, but yeah, it can get crowded and loud.

Casey’s is more ‘open’.

Never been to Alice Fazooli’s. But if there is a Subway close to it, It suits me fine. (It actually looks to be walking distance from Front Street.)

(John St. eh? Maybe would could head up to Speakers Corner. :D)

I’m not to picky, so long as it has Subway access, but Fazooli’s sounds good!

:o
Anyhow…

Fazooli’s has a gool name, and several supporters. Good enough for me, so long as I can get detailed directions.

It’s all coming together now… YAY!

If you are taking the Subway from Scarberia, take it to Union Station.

Look at the map link in my previous post. At the bottom right of that map, you will see “Station Street”. That’s Union Station. From there it is walking distance.

Hey Cero, is Fazoolies across from the Crocodile Rock? (If it is, then I knw exactly where it is.)
