From the Eaton Centre, the south end of the Centre opens onto Queen Street. If you walk west along the south side of Queen (which means NOT crossing Yonge Street) several blocks, you’ll come to the Chum-City building (can’t miss it; it’s MuchMusic and Speaker’s Corner), which is John Street. Turn left. Two blocks south, at Adelaide Street, is a Hooter’s. Turn right at that corner, and walk west about 50 feet. Bingo!
From Union Station (the bottom of the “U” on the main north-south subway route), walk west along Front Street several blocks (you should be on the north side) until you reach John Street (landmark: there’s a Movenpick restaurant on the north-east corner). Turn right and walk north two blocks (past King Street) to Adelaide. The north-west corner of John and Adelaide is a Hooter’s. Just west of Hooter’s is Alice Fazooli’s.
Kwyjibo, Fazooli’s isn’t on that corner. Duncan and Adelaide has Crocodile Rock [NE], Dirk’s [NW] and Vinnie’s [SW]. Scary that I know that.
Well, it looks like we are meeting at Alice Fazooli’s.
[Mr. Burns]
Excellent!
[/Mr. Burns]
So now we need a time.
I’m not sure how long it will take to get to TO from Mississauga, but I get off work at 5. (I’ll porobablly happen to have a “doctors appointment” that day so I can leave early. )
But lets say that it takes 2 hours at most, I can probably be there about 5PM. (7 if I can’t get away earlier.)
How’s meeting at around 6 sound? Gives people time to get there, I hope, and plenty of time to hang out and socialize. If anyone is going to be later, I’m sure our still being around will not be an issue!!!
Let’s see if we can get a handle on the number, so’s we don’t have a large group bursting in on the place unannounced.
So far, we’ve got:
KimKatt
Globetrotter
Kwyjibo
Who else can I add to that list? Come on, sign up!
. . . 'cause I don’t even know if I can make it (says he assuming he’d been invited in the first place. Bramptonians such as myself always feel like the poor cousins to our oh so sophisticated Toronto neighbours)
If you’re looking for something specifically in the Yonge/Front area, one cool spot is the Movenpick Marche, which is right on the corner of Front and Yonge. It is a self-service restaurant where you fetch your own dinners from stations where the food is made fresh before your eyes. Very good food, a variety of tastes, and suitable for many budgets.
Heart Lake, eh? D18 Jr’s going to RH Lagerquist School - you go there? Hmm. I’m going to have to try to make this!
Now that I’m actually invited and all
Hej!
Please put me down as going
Alice Fazooli’s, on Adelaide just west of John, eh? I leave work in Meadowvale at 5, so I’ll be there a little later than 6.30.
Kwyjibo, where are you in Mississauga? If you’re near the Royal Bank headquarters at Mississauga Rd and the 401, there’s an express bus that’ll get you to the Islington subway in 35 minutes, but from anywhere else that far west, it’ll take longer. And from Islington, it’s about half an hour to downtown. Possible exceptions: the Milton → Union Station GO bus. (I wish they still had that inbound Milton train during the afternoon…) You may be close enough to the Lakeshore line for that to make a difference too.
[sup]I am disturbingly well informed about the buses in Mississauga[/sup]
Kwyjibo, you’re just off Matheson near the airport? I’ll assume you’re in the Orbitor Drive area, that office park immediately south of the 401 and north of Centennial Park, but I think this works even if you’re over by Highway 10.
No need to backtrack to Square One! Just grab the eastbound #27 Matheson* bus. During the PM, it originates at Meadowvale TC and goes directly to the subway.
Am I to understand that you’re worried about coming into town during rush-hour? It’s not that big a deal, and there are several parking lots within 100 yards of the restaurant that will charge you less than the return GO train/bus fare. The heaviest traffic will be on the 427 south, but most of the traffic will head west on the QEW when you go east to the Gardiner.
While I haven’t done that route regulary since '92, I do still occasionally need to go from 401/Mississauga Road to Jarvis/Esplanade during rush hour, and it’s not bad at all.
