I hope this bad injury doesn’t jeopardize Tracy’s sobriety. He’s talked about his struggles with alcohol. He said in an interview last year that he’s been sober 7 years. The Doctors have to give him painkillers now. No way around it. He’s probably been on them since he arrived at the ER.
I recall Johnny Cash talking about his addiction. He got off the pills for several years in the 70’s. Health problems and several surgeries in the 80’s got him addicted again. Back to rehab. Another operation and he was hooked again. It’s a vicious cycle.
:smack: Yes, you are right. The 1500hp ones are racers.
ETA: But I’ve never driven anything with anywhere near 700hp, and I’ve driven some very fast cars. It’s beyond what most people have at their disposal.
Or how he metabolizes narcotics. Some people just don’t get high off of them. I don’t. They work for pain, albeit, not that much better than Tylenol, but because you can take only so much Tylenol, sometimes what I need is the narcotic/acetaminophen combo-- but at any rate, they don’t even make me especially sleepy, and they don’t get me high. Narcotics are not alcohol, so if Morgan’s initial problem was with alcohol, it doesn’t mean he absolutely will have a problem with narcotics.
…you were told, several times, that your absolute statements were based on incomplete information, yet you chose to persist with your opinion. Don’t blame the newspapers, don’t blame the police, and don’t blame us because you didn’t have the self-control to refrain from posting.
And thank you, Kimballkid, for identifying what I think is probably the reason people have gotten frustrated with you, Ace. I know you’re totally genuine and a good guy, but speaking in absolutes like this, especially when there’s no way anyone can know for certain what will happen, can be very frustrating.
I’m not used to people parsing my words quite so literally. I didn’t think it was necessary to say “maybe we’ll learn more in a few days” or “the whole story hasn’t been reported yet”. I’ll make a point to qualify my opinions more carefully in the future. Hopefully that will avoid misunderstandings.
I never intended to ruffle any feathers in this thread. I’m a fan of Tracy Morgan’s and really hope everything turns out well for him and his family.
The tractor was a Walmart owned tractor. It had Walmart logos on it. It’s a company truck. It HAS electronic logs. The driver could keep a paper log too, but there’s an electronic log. The elog changes the status from stopped to driving automatically if the truck goes faster than 15 mph. It could be lower.
You have to understand that the elog is connected to a satellite antenna/transmitter/receiver that’s in constant communication via a satellite (unless you’re going through a tunnel), ground station, landlines, to the trucking company. The elog is also getting GPS information that’s going to the trucking company too. They can track if the truck is in motion, where it is, what speed it’s going, what direction it’s headed, and how long it’s been in motion.
What they can’t track is whether or not the driver is sleeping when he’s on line 1 (off-duty) or line 2 (sleeper berth). And the driver has to indicate when he’s stopped the truck whether he’s on line 1, 2, or 4 (on-duty, not driving). When he starts rolling again, even if he forgets, the elog will automatically go to line 3 (driving). You can be in the sleeper berth, laying on the bunk, and not be asleep.
You do the exact same thing in almost every thread I have ever seen you in. You get all hot & bothered by flashy headlines, and speak in absolutes and then when you finally realize how wrong you have reacted you say you didn’t think people would take you so literally. Don’t pretend you don’t know exactly how people will respond to your posts.
I speak in absolutes in real life too. I’m a technical person. I think in black and white terms. Right, Wrong. On/Off. That’s why I have a natural gift for computer programming. I discovered it in my first programming class. Easiest classes I ever took in my entire life.
Changing my writing voice isn’t easy. I’m trying and will try even harder. Old dogs can learn new tricks.
This is not always true. Results will vary greatly depending on the dog, the trainer, and the dog’s previous capacity for learning at a younger age, as well as other variables.
Can we please withhold judgement until all the facts are in?
Maybe you might consider that black-and-white thinking is inappropriate for all kinds of things, like the people and the world around you. It might make you a good programmer but it also might made you a bad person if you let it dominate your worldview.
