Trans Siberian Orchestra in concert.

I just saw a commercial for a concert by TSO, they are playing in Seattle in a couple months. Other than the song played in the video with the synchronized Christmas lights, I have never listened to them. Is this something that an aging metal head like me would enjoy?

As a bit of an aging metalhead myself, I pretty well enjoyed it when I saw them last year. Having said that, though, it was a bit jarring to hear metal (even progressive holiday metal) being played at such a quiet volume.

Oh, and the female back up singers, as well as the lady violinist sure were easy on the eyes.

Does the notion of a sentimental metal classical spoken-word Christmas opera sound appealing to you?

I’m not a metalhead (of any age), but I’ve been to two of their shows here and enjoyed both a great deal. They put on quite a show, and it has the advantage of novelty.

I saw them last Christmas, and enjoyed the show. It’s. . .well, I took it as a stage show and enjoyed it as such, but I think the music, while technically well done, kinda lacks heart and soul. They put on a very entertaining production, with lasers, cool lighting effects, pyrotechnics, and a surprisingly large cast. I had a geek moment when I realized Angus Clark was playing guitar with the touring group I saw. I remembered Angus from his tours with New-Age artist Kitaro. I was disappointed that he had abandoned his Gilmour-esque sound for whatever the hell you call the TSO guitar sound, but it was still cool to find out what he was up to now. If you kind of like what you’ve already heard, and accept that you’re going to see a highly-choreographed production rather than your standard concert, you’ll have a good time.

I saw the show twice. I really enjoyed it. The first time was the best, of course. And be aware that the first half is a Christmas show. My sister and her friends went to it, and some how did not know this, and hated it, so just be aware.
