Has anyone else seen the new Transformers cartoon? You know, the utter piece of CRAP developed in this quasi-kids-still-think-Pok-e-Mon-is-popular-so-we’re-going-to-make-everything-look-like anime-except -shitty-because-we’re-Americans-and-don’t-want-to-be-too-much-like-them-or-original-because-then-kids-won’t-catch-how-much-like-Pok-e-mon-we-are-and-therefore-won’t-watch. Where do these people get off destroying a twenty year old happy memory like the Transformers? I mean, the enemies are nothing but comical stooges that aren’t even funny, the heroes are retarded, Optimus Prime is a FIRETRUCK!!!, and although I’ve only seen two episodes, it seems they all revolve around both Autobots and PREDICONS (WTF!!!) confusing some modern day thing with an “ancient robot” (today’s episode, it was a giant Buddha statue used for a movie). And everyone screams their attacks while the background spins. it’s CRAP!!!
Beast Wars, I could handle, because it had a fairly good story line that developed over time, and incredibly good character developement, and didn’t mind killing off main characters every now and again. I never did get into Beast Machines, but I did catch a few episodes, and it too managed to pull off some rather impressive story arcs (such as turning a bunch of the heroes in the first series into villains and the new world order of Cybertron). But this…THIS…is downright BLASPHEMY!!! If anyone’s paid any attention to it or seen it, let me know if you feel as disgusted and angry as I do. And give me a little bit of insight, such as how the hell Predicons and Decepticons are involved, why Predicons are even there, how did the Autobots become such idiots, who produces this show, and how I can stick my foot up the CEO’s ASS!!! GUAR!!!
i haven’t bothered to get up early on saturday to watch this show, i was disappointed by the foxkids still i saw that had the show Japanimized, and thought the show wouldn’t appeal to me. You seem to have similar interest in Transformers, so if you had the show i am sure i will too.
Old school Prime needs to come back and whip up on these young punks. Optimus wouldn’t put up with no “predacon threat” crap!
BTW have you seen the new “Ghost of Starscream” toy from japan? Its transparent!!! Here’s a link!
I partly agree. I can’t stand the Pokemon’esque Robots In Disguise cartooon. But it’s geared towards a very young audience. Unless you’re under the age of 12, you’re probably not going to enjoy it. But the toys are great. If you’re a TF fan and you haven’t seen the Optimus Prime firetruck toy, you’re missing out. The fact that it combines with new Ultra Magnus makes it even better. But if you can afford it, get the Japanese versions of the toys; much better colors IMHO.
Anyhoo, it’s said that Robots In Disguise is just filler for the 2001-2002 season. Hasbro is supposedly working on an original show for the fall of 2002 that will most likely be a continuation of Beast Machines.
One year, anyway – as with the other Japanese Transformers cartoons, Transformers: Car Robots only ran for one season on Japanese television. Robots in Disguise will undoubtedly go the same way.
I haven’t watched RiD yet, but from the stuff I’ve been hearing from fellow fans (the folks who go to the BotCon Transformers convention every year, so we’re talking die-hard fans), they seem to enjoy it. It’s silly and goofy, but after the “serious” nature of the last few years’ of Transformers television (Beast Wars Transformers and Transformers: Beast Machines), they see it as a return to the lighthearted days of the original series.
And for Anticlay, where have you been? There are several Transformers newsgroups you can choose from:

I broke down and got a few of those spiffy-lookin’ new playthings; verrry nice! The cartoon is unfortunate, though. Why they strayed from the (or any) continutity is beyond me. I like anime as much as the next guy, but the bad guys should be, I dunno, threatening or something. Yeah, the 'cons from back in the day were stupid, but they’d kill ya soon as look at ya. These bozos are just talk talk talk…I try to watch, but it hurts, with the gaping plotholes (how’d they get here? no origin story? wtf?), the lousy translation (Sky-Bite actually said “vex”!), and the perpetual nonsense (if they’re trying to get what’s-his-face’s dad back, why don’t they f’n look for the pred’s base?). I just can’t stand the Predacons; when Scourge and the Decepticons come along, hopefully it’ll get better, but I’m not getting my hopes up. As it is, I wish someone would off Side Burn (argh! with the stupid names, too!). My worry is that the franchise will get buried in the heaps of wanna-bes (Cubix anyone? I know there are some others, too…) before a new, better show is produced. In the end, this bit of TF history will be swept into the dustbin along with Issue #3.
I managed to watch the first episode up until Optimus summoned the other three Autobots to help him, and then called it quits.
I hate it with a passion. It is NOT Transformers. It is like half the anime out there, big robots battling each other for no reason, with people that have eyes three times the size of their head. Give me the original any day (or Beast Wars or Beast Machines, for that matter.)
The movie version of the Transformers is how anything TF should be, in my opinion…Megatron and friends may not have been the most successful bad guys (you’d think they’d just fly above all the grounded Autobots and shoot until they’re dead), but they were some of the evilest (if that’s even a word).
I haven’t watched the new series (no cable, sigh) but I saw some pictures of the characters and…ehh. I’d rather see a new series using the original cast, heh…
How are the voices? One of my favorite parts of the old show were the voices, heh…I think Chris Latta (Starscream) is dead now, unfortunately. Loved that voice.
Tsugumo (at least there’s a new TMNT cartoon coming, which is supposed to be “dark”, Batman style, should be good)
Tsugumo, the voices aren’t that great, IMHO. Megatron sounds a lot like a 12-year-old schoolyard bully, and Optimus doesn’t sound right - hard to pinpoint it, but his voice doesn’t match his size or position. I mean, it would be like Mike Tyson as a drill sergeant. Sure, he might look intimidating, but that voice yelling at you would crack you up.
“It’s silly and goofy, but after the “serious” nature of the last few years’ of Transformers television (Beast Wars Transformers and Transformers: Beast Machines), they see it as a return to the lighthearted days of the original series”
Lighthearted? Original series? What? Okay, maybe it's because it's been a long time since I actually watched an episode, but I don't remember any of the original series episodes being lighthearted. The only time things really got comical were when the Dino-Bots showed up. Aside from that, it was "Get energon, DESTROY!!!! GUAR!!!!" And every now and again you got a storyline that delt with good character developement (like the one where Dune Buggy found the lake of gold that made them invincible and was curious as to where his loyalties still lay, or when Starscream's old buddy, the big huge veritech-looking guy showed up and decided to be an Autobot and how that effected their friendship). Aside from that, the decepticons were always menacing with the occassional internal struggles. And as for their being inneffective, according to the movie, they ended up OWNING Cybertron, and they did so until the stopid head-masters storyline came along and Chip became the head for that guy who became the head for the huge base and Cybertron somehow became all gold and everyone was happy and stopped fighting. And even that storyline was dark (they crippled a little eight year old kid so that he could only live by living in a suit made from the chick robots head (worste story arc ever)).
I managed to actually watch another episode yesturday, it was the one where Megatron stole a bunch of pods and created the decepticons. I'm sorry, but something in me just refuses to accept the fact that this thing is true anime. Not just because the artwork looks a hundred times worse than the worse anime I've ever seen, but also due to the fact I can't believe the Japanese would be stupid enough to make Megatron turn into, of all things menacing, a GIANT HAND!!!!!! WTF!!!!!!!! Dragon...understandible...space ship, sure...robot, duh...GIANT HAND?!?!?!?!?!?! AAARRRRGGHHHHH!!!!!!! Even as a robot, HE LOOKS LIKE CRAP!!!!!!! It's bad enough they've turned Optimus Prime into such a wus that he not only needs a "Battle Mode," but he also has to combine with Ultra Magnus?!?!?!?!?! I swear, if they actually have that in the cartoon, I'm going to jab a fork in my eye.
