"Traveler"-Did anyone else watch this?

I liked it. The main character was a little naive, but I’ll give it another shot. The “hero” was first in the running under Rattner to be Superman, and I’d have picked him over Routh any day.

For those of you who, like me, had never heard of this here is a link to what I *think *we’re talking about.

Looks like it has potential. I never watch those ongoing shows though because it always pisses me off when the ratings fail, it is canceled and there is no closure.

Riiight… :smack: .sorry. I should have clarified what I was talking about. Guess it really did terribly if there’s this little name recognition…

I read the book, but that was because I read most everything Richard Adams wrote after I read Shardik. I wasn’t aware a film was made of it; I hope they didn’t play Traveler as Mr. Ed, as I think Adams successfully avoided that trap and really showed war from the point of view of a horse.

DrFidelius, you’re not the most prolific poster here, but you’re definitely one of the zingiest.

That’s the first thing I thought of when I saw the name too, and I’ve never even read the book.

I’m going to catch it next week. ABC isn’t as bad as NBC for quick cancellations, and if it stays on the Gray’s Anatomy night, maybe it’ll do okay.

The show won’t be back until the 30th. It’s taking over Lost’s spot on Wednesday nights.

Thanks for the update. I would have looked for it and assumed it was cancelled.

I remember seeing previews for this last summer, but had completely forgotten about it until I saw the promos.

Personally, I’ve decided not to go with the show for one reason: serial dramas that don’t connect with an audience right away (Daybreak, Drive, etc.) get axed before the story arc really gets a worthwhile chance. I got burned on both of those and am happy just to see the remaining ones I like (Lost, 24, Heroes) close out the year without getting attached to something new and likely short-lived.

I watched it, and the “heroes” did something that drives me insane. They ran when they had no reason to run. Meh.

I don’t think it will survive.

It was a fantastic book, really. Worth reading if you have any interest in the Civil War. Not scholarly, but interesting and good.

… oh. Learned about it about an hour after it ended.

I dunno, in today’s America if my face were plastered on the news as being wanted (as a suspect, for questioning, in any capacity) in connection with a terrorist bombing and I had the resources to get away, I can’t say as I’d be all that eager to amble up to the nearest FBI agent and hand myself over to their tender mercies. Going to ground, getting a lawyer and making a very loud and very public deal out of the situation would be the only way to have some assurance that I wouldn’t be on the next flight to Gitmo and even then there’s no guarantee it wouldn’t happen anyway.

Yeah, it’s doomed. Wikipedia says that ABC cut the episode order from thirteen to eight already. That ain’t good.

The pilot was intriguing, but this’ll probably be yet another show that doesn’t last long enough for us to ever find out what the Hell was going on.

The scary thing is that, today, a law-abiding citizen who’s mistakenly fingered as being involved in a terrorist act could realistically expect federal authorities to treat him without what most of us think of as due process. That part doesn’t require any unlikely conspiracy.

Well, actually it does. What’s far more likely than the “government” taking away someone’s due process is the media doing it: witness the Duke lacrosse players case.

Well, no, the media doesn’t have that kind of power, whereas the government does. Being “convicted by the media” doesn’t actually put you in a concrete cell. The government’s done that to a number of people the past few years without due process.

I’m sure there’ll be any number of implausible ideas in the show, but that’s not one of them.

There is only one American citizen that I can think of that has been remanded without trial for terrorism and that’s Jose Padilla. If you can think of another, I apologize in advance, but AFAIK, every other person held as an enemy combatant without trial has been a non-citizen. And you’re a bit naive if you don’t think the media can make your life a living hell if they wish.

One example is enough. Bush and Gonzalez have indicated that they believe the president has the right to do that to any citizen he wishes, based on his own judgement; this has been backed up by legislation passed by the rubber-stamp Congress that Bush enjoyed up till last year.

Well, yes, had I said that, it would have been indicated naivete. Good thing I didn’t.

Enough political talk; this is Cafe Society.

In terms of production, I thought the show was well done. Lots of good location shooting. Like a lot of people who have never visited NYC, I nevertheless feel like I’ve been there because of movies and tv shows; it must be the most photographed city in the world.

In terms of storyline, I would hope that they’d write the show as a limited-run, self-contained story, instead of dragging it out. (Though it’ll probably get cancelled as soon as I really start getting into it, like “Day Break” and “The Nine”.)

Well, no, actually, it’s not.

Hmmm, this seems to have nothing to do with a sci-fi role playing game…

The role playing game had the previously correct two "L"s in the title, didn’t it?
