Travelogue -- a New World MMP

I have known some people who were quite capable of postponing the “learning” of bad news for far longer than a single weekend… I have had to work with some of them

Well, yeah, but it won’t stop people from trying to get you involved! :stuck_out_tongue:

Morning everyone. I’m up and caffeinating, and the zoo is feasting. It’s gonna be another scorcher today. 101 degrees Amerikin(38 degrees furrin).

Welcome back, Jahdra! The whole Intarweb’s been nutty this week.

Nava, enjoy Merrie Old England.

Cute pic, Haze and LiLi.

snowbunny, can I have some cold?

I’m in the same temperature zone as dogbutler - they’re calling for above 100F here too today.

I made my famous Orange Meatloaf last night for dinner. It was a great success.

And this weekend we’re hosting the GF’s brother and his family (him, wife, three boys under the age of 10) from upstate New York and her crazy sister from the eastern Shore. Should be fun, or at least interesting. Hectic. I think hectic is the word I’m looking for.

Colder is one thing, but 35F is pushing it a bit. Still, I’m not complaining, I’m just thinking I’ll need to pull out a heavy jacket to go to work Monday morning. blink blink In August.

Right now I’m doing a lot of watching, but she’s not going to start me on too much beyond what I already know (pretty much just brushing) until after the end of the busy season. Her other current grooming employee is really great, but she’s 16 and will be going away to school in Arizona or something in a couple of weeks. But once Labor Day hits, the tourists will go away for awhile and give us all a break and she’ll get me started on fancier stuff than just brushing. Meanwhile, there’s plenty of other things to do, seeing to the daycare dogs, taking dogs back and bringing them up, learning the cash register, various cleaning (dry dog hair is much easier to clean up than wet, and the washers seem to take care of the wet) and [del]sucking up to[/del] being friendly and helpful with the various customers, many of who are seriously rich and in some cases famous. Plus various pets and attention to various dogs that seem to always be underfoot, including my aunt’s gorgeous Clumber spaniels. They are beautiful, and they know it, and I got to brush them out yesterday!

I’m obviously going to have no problem getting a lab fix here; a half-grown black pup came in yesterday, and a huge black English lab as well, and I got to brush them both out after their baths. The pup was a sweetheart even if he had enough energy for about six dogs – in other words, a puppy. I hate having my ears licked, though!

Aw, puppy kisses! And Blanche and Ruthie are indeed gorgeous dogs, aren’t they, snowbunny? (I’ve met Blanche, mumpers, but not Ruthie, but I’ve seen pictures of Ruthie and I’m sure she’s is easily as gorgeous – and knows it – as Blanche since Ruthie’s littermate was the national Clumber champion last year.) It sounds like you’re going to have fun – although I’m not sure I should tell Isaac that you’re fussing over other dogs than him! He is your doggie boyfriend, after all!

I’m dying to know who some of the rich and famous people you’re meeting are, too, but I realize you’re not going to share it on a message board, so you can tell me on the phone soon. Oh, and send a bit of that cold this way too, please? It was already over 80°F when I got up this morning. Which isn’t so bad except that the humidity is building again. :frowning: There’s also a nasty line of thunderstorms moving in, so I hope it doesn’t mess up my plans for the day, which include running errands. For some reason, I don’t like to go out in nasty weather, not to mention it’s not exactly easy to go out when Rusty is freaking. :frowning:

Glad to see you back, Jahdra! You’ve been missed. I didn’t realize people are allowed to take vacations from the board longer than actual vacations, though – isn’t that in the rules somewhere? Anyway, I hope things have been going well for you in your absence.

I know you and Scottish Darling will have a lovely time, Haze. When come back, bring photographs and pie!

My thoughts and prayers go out to SCL and Libby’s family today for her memorial service.

I guess I should go do something constructive. <yawn> Do I have to?

That was us after ten minutes of wrestling with the camera, saying, “Do you know how to work the timer?”, "No. Do you?.

And then setting it and rushing frantically back to the couch.
Hey, Jah! Nice to see you!

Alice, I envy you. I love cold.

SCL, continuing prayers for Lib’s family and for you. I’m glad that you like her sisters so much.

Today is some mild rushing around. We’re getting a desk from Mr. Lissar’s Dad, going out for lunch with them and his great-aunt, tidying and doing laundry prior to leaving tomorrow… we have to be at the train station at 11:30! We’re both in Vacation Mode and anything before noon seems wrong and evil.

Anyway, back to rushing around.

What you may not know, MT, is that Ruthie loooooves to play. Yesterday morning when I went out back to pick up dog crap (such fun, that job) she was out there with a tennis ball, and ready to PLAY! and getting underfoot while I was doing what I had to. I’m told she carries up to three balls at once, though I’ve only seen her with two. Quite the overgrown puppy she is, but she’s very sweet.

yawn It looks like today’s going to be another busy one, judging from the appointment book.

I thought** Li-Li** was pregnant? Anyway, cute pic!
It’s hot again. And humid again. I thought the storms were supposed to blow away all that and we’d have a nice few days. Gimme fall-this blows.

Off to run around maniacally in a vain attempt to get everything done today.

You know, if you have to puke, tea with sugar is a pretty pleasant thing to heave up.

Hi Jah!

Maybe you can borrow some of the doggies to go home with you and keep you warm, snowbunny!

Have a good weekend Nava!

After I knit a baby blanket for a former coworker (my first ever big knitting project), I had some of the yarn left over so I’m now making a little doll blanket that I’ll send with the baby blanket. See, my former coworker also has a 7-yo and a 3-yo, and I’m thinking that the 3-yo may want to play mommy while Mom’s taking care of the new baby. So she can have a blankie to match the one that Mom has for the new baby. And it gives me something to do with a little bit of leftover yarn. I’m really happy with the doll blanket too because it’s coming out really square, as opposed to the baby blanket that’s rolling at the edges.

After this, I really have to start on xmas presents since it’ll take me a while to make scarves or blankets for everyone! New hobbies are good.

taxi–you will get something for the 7 yo as well, then, right? I predict tears if not…

taxi a blanket in dark blue would be great. It should fit a king sized bed. What? You said you’re gonna make blankets and scarves for everybody! :stuck_out_tongue:

Good Mornin’ Y’all! I’m up, all caffienated, all purtied up and gonna go meet ol’ y’all know who for lunch at 11:30 so’s we can beat the crowd. We’re lunching at that oh so upscale and fashionable place known as the Three Squares Diner. We’s class all the way!

Y’all quit complainin’ about the heat. I go to work durin’ the hottest part of the day in a place that’s sorta quasi air conditioned but do you hear me complainin’? No you don’t! That’s cause y’all ain’t around to hear it, but that’s beside the point! Actually, it’s kinda strange cause, while it’s hawt out to the brewry, it’s a thing I’ve pretty much gotten used to now so it does not bother me so much. Besides, I’ve learned the tricks of sneakin’ off to cool spots for a few minutes when needed.

Howdy Jah! When come back post details of what’s goin’ on.

Have a great trip Haze!

Snakes I’m thinkin’ about ya.

BBBobbio I’m memorizin’ your joke so’s I can tell it to everybody I can find cause it’s funnnnnnny! HEE! It shall get it’s first tellin’ at lunch.

Ok, off to do some other stuff for a bit.

Later Y’all!

ETA: OOPS! Have a great trip too, Nava!

Good morning everyone!

Noooooooooooooo! It caaaaaaaaaaaan’t be Thursday! My vacation! My vacation! It’s slipping away!

Jahdra, hi there! It’s great to see you back. I hope you’ve been well.

Nava, enjoy your trip and your visit with your guildies.

Haze, enjoy your trip too! I know, you could put on four inch stillettos and then you’d be tall enough to carry your gee-tar!

It actually got pretty darn warm outside yesterday, but I think the next few days are supposed to much cooler.

I’m with swampy, the heat needs to stay until after the pool party. Course that’s pretty darn likely since it’s Flawduh.

Hope all the vacationers have fun, including the lissars who are ridin the rails!

scl, you are a good friend. I know how hard it is. Hugs.

palebunny, are you in the mountain area of Idaho? If so, August is already Fall there. May I recommend a down vest?

Welcome back, Jah.

I have nothing good to report this morning, so like Thumper I won’t say anything at all.

Tupug

bleh.
that is all.

Aww, Ruthie with two or three tennis balls! Silly doggie!

We had some storms move by near us, but we only got a few sprinkles of rain and I only actually heard one rumble of thunder. Rusty did spend a couple minutes cowering under my desk, but he’s now snoring peacefully in the middle of the floor. Of course, there’s still more rain coming, so I’m not sure what I should do – although the temperature did drop rather suddenly when the front passed over, from 82° to 74°, so I could probably take the Idiots for a ride because I have to run to the credit union. Oh well, we shall see. I can’t go anywhere till I finish Mr. African Accent in any case.

Taters, vacations are always shorter than they should be, and the time passes far, FAR faster than the time at work waiting for the vacation passes. I’m not quite sure why the universe set it up that way, but in any case, it really sucks, doesn’t it?

GAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!

I hate the last two weeks before school starts, and generally the first week or two of school.
hatehatehatehatehate.

my cousin, the grade school science teacher, has pretty much the same reaction

I missed all y’all too!

Not too much to report here, same old, same old.

I’m still on the same temp assignment I was before, except that I have, er, grown to have strong feelings about the position. I spoke with my recruiter on Tuesday, and agreed to stay through the second week in September. Yesterday afternoon, my manager here scheduled (and has since re-scheduled) a meeting to talk about “changes.” This morning, in my Monster job search results, my current assignment is the first position posted. They just posted it! I’ve been here for over two months! I only agreed to stay until they filled the position, which it should have been by now, or at least close to it. So it will likely be another 2 or 3 months until the position is actually filled, unless they have an internal candidate. I’m really hoping that the meeting is to tell me that they’ve filled the position internally and s/he will be starting in two weeks and they want to switch me to another position. Which is fine. Until mid-September. (My recruiter said that the client really loves me, and has requested more employees like me. Are they **sure ** about that? )

It’s raining. A lot.

That is all.
