Travelogue -- a New World MMP

DoLo because of that rain, my boss and one of the owners of Technical Thingies are sitting in an airplane on the tarmac in Charlotte, waiting to go to Houston for some Very Important Meetings tomorrow.

Send me some, please.

Stay dry and safe, Rebo! Tell ol’ Dean to stop bothering you!

So are your, er, strong feelings about that position that you want it or that you don’t want it, Jahdra? I thought you meant the latter, but I’m not really sure. I take it you like the company even if the job isn’t to your liking, though?

Our weather actually cleared up well enough that Rusty ate his (very belated) breakfast and then settled down for a nice nap, so I tested the waters, so to speak, by taking a shower, and when he didn’t freak out at being abandoned, I then was able to run my errands without difficulties. And when I got home, the sun was out and had dried the yarn enough that I could take Isaac out for a play session. So now both Idiots are happy, and I’m sitting here feeling much better for having finished Mr. African Accent. Even if I’ve got piles of other work waiting for me.

But I’m taking a break to do a bit of knitting. I’m finding that that fluffy brioche pattern works great with a fingering weight yarn – it’s so textured but airy that it makes the yarn seem much more substantial, and is probably a very warm pattern. So I’m trying out a scarf in this pretty yarn in the color Salsa Heather. It’s a very cheery shade, definitely makes me hungry for Mexican food!

Well, my new sheets arrived, sorta. I ordered 2 sets - one blue and one peach, 2 different styles. I got 2 identical sets of peach and no blue. They both cost the same. I called and the company is going to email me a return label so it won’t cost anything to return one set. But do I want to? I don’t know if it’s worth the hassle. Both sets were 500TC. The main reason I like different colors is to keep track of how often each is used. I like to use a regular rotation with my sheets.

I think I’ll go ahead and launder one set and see how I like them. If I have no issues, I’ll just keep both, I suppose. But the blue was soooooo pretty.

More weird dreams last night - part involved Dick Cheney crashing a small plane into a tree. There was also a fluffy white cat eating something dead, and I was walking around in a factory in stocking feet, trying to figure out how to get out and get home. At one point, I was walking along a street, thinking about calling a cab, but I only had $10 and I wasn’t sure how far $10-worth of taxi ride would get me. No, I didn’t drink last night.

One more day of days, then I have to work on resetting my internal clock. Tomorrow night, I’ll stay up as late as I can stand it. Maybe I’ll play with clay - I bet in my fatigued state I’ll come up with some really, um, interesting abstracts.

I miss my sweetie. It’s way too quiet here. I can’t believe we lived apart for 2 years. Then again, I had the kid to keep me company.

Time to clean the litter box. Oh yes, you wish you had my life!!

#1 son’s haircut is done; #2’s is due in an hour. Banner is made for the party on Saturday, except I must create a way to affix said banner to the porch. Imma gonna sew white rings on the banner and hang it up.
Foraging for food is also done. Making of toilet areas sanitary is not. And this is my day off!
I cannot wait until August 24. Everyone will be in school then (and I’ll be at work).
Looks like rain (again) here. It is cooler, thank og. I’ll wish it toward the southeastern coast for** Vundie**.

Well, the great room is most of the way cleared out in preparation for vacuuming. After that, I’m going to steam clean it. I hate, hate, hate berber carpeting. Before I could do that, I had to weave a portion of the carpet back. It seems something had snagged it, so there I sat on the floor with a needle hook thingie weaving the long loop back in among the other loops.

Sigh, I guess I should get back to it.

I keep forgetting (since I usually cannot post from work) to present last week’s fortune from Chinese Food Day (it’s a monthly tradition around here)

Your Loyalty is a virtue,
but not when it’s wedded
to blind stubbornness.
Today is an ideal time to
water your personal garden

Happy <snerk>ing

Critters fed - check
dehumidifiers emptied - check
cat box cleaned - check
new sheets in the wash - check - and for the record, they feel sooooooooooo good!

I guess I’ve been productive enough for one day then. Although I might empty the dishwasher. maybe. If I get reeeeaaaaaalllly motivated.

Right. :stuck_out_tongue:

MamaTigs, I don’t care for the industry I’m currently working in. The job itself is meh, the client, well, I won’t post my opinion from work, let’s put it that way. My philosophy is that they are paying me a tidy sum to do these [del]idiotic[/del] [del]stupid[/del] projects (I mean, wouldn’t you want to spend your days creating name tags that have to be cut into perfect rectangles or else they have to be re-done, and OMG - on this one the ink smeared, so you have to reprint the entire page because they might all be contaminated by the ink and then in your spare time, explain for the 1,000,001th time how to type (yes, type, not macros or calculations or formulas, but actual words) in an Excel spreadsheet, oh, actually, I’d like to have it in a Word document, but I didn’t think you could make lines in Word, [the incompetence rises off of her in waves, but I don’t believe it for a minute, she’s doing it deliberately to get out of doing things she doesn’t want to do]), well, that’s their business. It’s their dime, they can spend it however they like. Doesn’t mean I don’t have an *opinion * about it, I just keep it to myself. And all of my imaginary friends.

Aaaaargh!

Just got off the (cell) phone. Almost three solid hours of Tech Support. No, I’m not Tech Support – I had to support the tech :smack:

To his credit, it was two unrelated problems happening at once; most of the time was spent with both of us slowly arriving at that conclusion, then realizing that the quick-fix I proposed for problem #1 after the first two minutes of the call, actually works – as long as problem #2 isn’t hosing the whole system at the same time…

Anyway, things seem to be cleared up now except for explaining to the customer what happened in the first place. I figure that’s Marketing’s/Sales’/<Whatever-you-call-holding-the-paying-customer’s-hand>'s job. Right!?

It’s almost midnight. I haven’t showered nor set up the dishwasher yet.

Good thing tomorrow is already my weekend. (So there :p)

First on 6!

My sweetie just called - he’s on his way home! YAY!! I guess class wrapped up a day early.

So I guess I better get motivated and empty the stoopit dishwasher.

I suppose that you all thought the
stork brought babies. It’s actually a flamingo. (That is one on my pseudo kids) My daughter labored for 12 hours without progressing beyond 5 cm and so had a c-section late last night. Mattea Elizabeth was born at 12:03 am, weighed 7lb 2 oz, 18 inches long, and is the most beautiful baby in the world. Mom and daughter are doing exceptionally well, bMattea is nursing, and so far the only thing which upsets her is a cold diaper wipe! I am about to get ready to go back to the hospital, but I just had to let you all succumb to the cuteness. More later, my love to all.

Woo! Congrats!! Yay for becoming a grandma.

Always remember – it’s your daughter’s job to discipline her. Your [del]prerogative[/del] job is to spoil her silly!

Woo hoo, congrats Kaiwik! What a beautiful baby Mattea Elizabeth is too, you’re right.

FCM, the dish and the votive candle & holder arrived safe and sound today!!! Thank you so much! I love the “ugly” dish - the colors are so pretty on it. I do intend on taking it to work, to serve as a candy dish. Postage costs will be in the mail this weekend. Thanks again, and I -love- it!!

I still haven’t heard anything about my thyroid biopsy. And today I found out that the endocrinologist went on vacation on the 10th, last Friday - the day I had the biopsy. He won’t be back until Sept. 4th! My primary care physician didn’t have any results either, unfortunately. :frowning: I am so aggravated at Kaiser-Permanente.

SCL, you’re in my thoughts and prayers today, as is Libby’s family. {{{{{{HUGS}}}}}

Yeah, but I’m half a country away. What do I care? :stuck_out_tongue: Yes, I will get something for the 7-yo. What do 7-yo boys like?

Congrats, kai! She’s adorable!

Yay, gramma kai!!! The young 'un is adorable!

**tarra ** - if you’d lived a wee bit closer, I could have just brought it to you, but the gas would have cost more than the postage! Glad you like the ugly dish.

**taxi ** - 7-y/o boys like gross stuff. Or noisy stuff. Give him a drum!

Kai, she’s beautiful!

Yeah, taxi, drums are great gifts, especially since you live far, far away. (Where’s that evil smiley when you need it?) You could also knit him a hat or something. Hats are small and relatively simple and fast.

And woo hoo for me! The position has been filled internally, but she’s on vacation next week, so my assignment ends on 8/31. Yay! Just in time for the holiday. I am ecstatic! I’ll be updating my resume tonight.

Haze, I could pack for you. And it would be real quick too. But you might be roughing it on the trip a bit. You don’t need underwear or a toothbrush, do you?

Nice pic of you and Lili.

Oh, ack! I dunno, I dunno! :::looks to the left. . .looks to the right::: Aww, what the heck. . . :::group hug!::: (But no smooching with Dotty)

Nobody can sing that song in tune. It’s a rule.

Yeah, right! You can say that now that it’s already been fixed. I bet you would have been going on for hours making it more complicated than it already was. Cause that’s what techs do, right?

Could you translate that back to English for us non-furry people? :stuck_out_tongue:

How fun could it be if she’s holding chickens in each hand?! And btw, old ladies don’t like to be called old girls. How would I know that? I have it on good authority.

But you have to at least thump. :::thump, thump, thump:::

I bet you’re not gonna, are you? You’re just gonna jump into bed without showering. I try to stress good hygiene with you Mumpers, but there’s always one in every bunch. :stuck_out_tongue:

kai, congrats on the new grandbaby!!

Jahdra, congrats on losing the job! Hmm, somehow that doesn’t sound right. I hope you find better one(s) soon.

Congrats, Grandma kaiwik! Mattea is indeed the most beautiful baby in the world – have fun being a grandma! I foresee much spoiling in Mattea’s future.

You’ve managed to keep your sanity doing that, Jahdra? I’m seriously impressed. I mean, once in a while is one thing, but dealing with that kind of idiocy can make you nuts. Of course, I remember back in the Dark Ages when I worked for the Air Force and the colonel’s secretary was developing a serious case of Teh Crazy – she’d only come to work when God told her to, and apparently He liked her working 2- or 3-day weeks – and in order to marginalize her and prevent her from doing too much damage till they could oust her, they consigned her to proofreading everything that went up for the general’s signature. I remember once when she sent a letter back to be redone because the left margin was only 15/16 inch wide and it was supposed to be one inch. And then at a point when we had a serious letterhead shortage and could barely scrape up enough to get necessary correspondence out – and this was in the days of typewriters and carbon paper, like I said, the Dark Ages – she would send back anything that showed any corrections even on the file-only carbons. That’s right, everything had to be 100% letter perfect. Everyone’s typing got very, very accurate.

Anyway, I hope you find something better in the near future!

Supper has been consumed, animals have been fed, dishwasher is running, and now it’s time to either do something constructive or go put my feet up and veg in front of the TV. Guess which I’m going to do?
