Travelogue -- a New World MMP

Eww! I’d be willing to pay extra to be sure my food bags are booger-free.

Hi everyone!

Nice OP, Special1. Sounds like you had a nice trip.

SCL, I’m glad to hear about Libby. That’s awesome news!

I’m still recovering from a night at my best friend’s house. We stayed up way way too late and drank entirely too many martinis. And I got a haircut by another of her friends who came over to share in the debauchery. She took off about 5 inches or so but I can still put it in a ponytail. I haven’t had a proper haircut in years and can’t stop playing with it! Also discovered two more grey hairs, which is pretty cool - I actually like my grey hair. It’s my grown-up street cred. :stuck_out_tongue:

Well, at least you got toilet paper, Taters. Swampy would be most upset if you spent all that money and didn’t get toilet paper.

Speaking of which, I need to go to Sam’s tomorrow. <adds toilet paper to shopping list>

No problem with the misunderstanding due to jet lag, Special One. I know whereof you speak. Japan to California is 14 or 15 hours difference, plus a day change thanks to the International Date Line, and I’ve done that one several times. Once I arrived in the morning and was speaking of things that “had happened this afternoon.” Freaked snowbunny right out.

We had that traditional New Orleans Monday food, red beans & rice, for dinner. Except we used the Zatarains shortcut (with smoked sausage added, of course). It’s truly the ultimate comfort food; my challenge now will be to stay awake until bedtime, because a nice meal of red beans & rice demands a nice nap afterwards.

I am TOTALLY bored at work today…which for me is a novelty. It is also worrying - calm before the storm I think

But I did get my shiny new dishwasher installed today  Lets just say when the pump breaks down on your old one and you don’t realise it and the water sits in there for 3 days before you do it is not a nice mess to clean up

Why does CherryGirl (the older one is a girl, right?) have two backpacks?

Interesting reading…everyone’s been so busy…

nashi - was that you who asked about Libby? She’s SCL’s friend who was diagnosed with cancer pretty recently and has been in the hospital following a round of chemo. She’s been doing very very poorly, but the last couple of updates have been positive. Yay!!!

Good news on the split, FCM. I think I remember you talking about him when you got back from Flardah. (Or maybe while you were still down there?)

Yes, Target has quite enough of an entrance fee for me; I’d probably buy all of Costco. I think I actually need to go to Target again; need some additional storage stuff so I can move some more stuff around in the linen closet and in the basement.

Sounds like you had a great trip, SO. I’ve always wanted to go to the Cloisters, but haven’t made it there yet. Haven’t been to NY in way too long.

Dead dishwasher water…ewwwwwwwwwww. Hi MMMMs!

 taxi  - I’ve actually driven that in the past (long time ago). Stopped at my brother’s on the way to a conference near the Twin Cities. You and KeithT could also come down to Chicago, you know… :stuck_out_tongue:

No preferences on food, really, Hank. I’d love to go somewhere that’s only in Chicago (are there still such places?), but I’d rather make sure it’s somewhere that we can hear ourselves talk. I haven’t been to Chicago for fun in such a long time that I have no idea what the options might be. rigs - can you join us too? Does Mrs. MBG have a preference/suggestion? (Yes, I am planning-averse this time…please offer suggestions - anyone!)

Well, I need to call Mom, since I only talked to her for about 30 seconds last night.

Back eventually…(did I mention I have my house to myself again? yay!).

GT

Went studio hunting with lazy-ass brother and managed to find something decent. But oy, the money we spent today. Deposit + brother’s tuition fees. Not good. I’ve almost maxed out my credit card!!! I am actually scared to tell my parents how much money we’ll need, although they’ll be expecting it anyway. And when we get our deposit back from our apartment now things will be a bit better. But still. Gah.

Roo, it’s not that exciting a story. We were actually discussing cultural differences and where to draw the line between acceptance and criticism of another culture, and somehow that ended up with me talking about Japanese tentacle porn. I always end up talking about Japanese tentacle porn. Hah.

gt, I’ll fish around a bit - unless rigs or MBG has any suggestions? Maybe we should just do a seperate Chicago-fest post and see who’s up for it.

Yep, right next to Naperville (where I work). In fact, from what I can tell, my apartment will be literally within 20 yards of Naperville.

And Haze, it’s not that far  I’d even pick ya up at the train station and people say that trains are the only way to travel!

Today I took the next tiny step to actually buying new furniture by asking the people at Ikea how to get it delivered. But after finding out how much delivery costs, I’m now looking into just buying it on Saturday and moving it in a moving truck with the assistance of a friend of mine. I personally believe that whoever decided to put the little cafe that makes the cinnamon buns next to the front door is a GENIUS.

I know!! Isn’t it insane? Those delivery costs are highway robbery, I tells ya. It ends up costing almost as much as the furniture does.

Taters, whoa. . .I’m staying far away from Costco. That kind of bill could wipe me out. Musta been fun though.

This is so devioius. . . I like it! Not that I would ever do anything devious, mind you. . . but it takes real cleverness to think of things like this.
**
gotti**, I just called the landlord of the renters around here too. And yup, I’m not the only one. My only concern is that I thought the previous renters were horrendous. But then it got worse. I couldn’t even conceive of it before it happened.

Hey Lunch (how do you like your new nick?), I may not have been original, but at least I was right. Special1 reminds me of Dana Carvey’s the church lady. . . not that I won’t keep using it once in a while. . . just for that reason.
And just to make you feel a bit better, I thought the same thing about Mamatigs’ post. But I figured if everyone else wasn’t hollering and singing, I’d be low-key about it also.

You always say that the story is not that interesting when I ask you to explain. But I like them. I’m always looking for more ways to introduce Japanese tentacle porn into my conversations. Oddly, I’ve never had occasion to do this in the past.

That’s because you’re not Korean. Us Koreans use every opportunity we have to work Japanese tentacle porn and used underwear fetishes into every conversation. It’s a real crowd pleaser.

oops

Well, in defense of my sentence construction, I did say I was 53 freaking years old, not 53 freaking years old today. Slight difference. Anyway, I’ll be 54 freaking years old in November. You can give me cake then. I’m partial to Red Velvet cake.

I had a duh-hey moment when I pulled out a pretty wool/silk yarn today and quickly cobbled together a really, really simple cable pattern, and voilà, I’ve already gotten half of a really pretty scarf knitted. Clearly this will be a good type of pattern to build my stock for the craft show next month, although I’ll vary the cables so each one is truly a one-of-a-kind masterpiece. I should also dig out a pattern I found recently for some iPod and/or cell phone purses that should appeal the same girls who’ll be squeeing over FCM’s monsters. I could knit those up in an hour, I suspect. Assuming I ever get around to it.

Used underwear fetishes are okay, haze, as long as it’s not your used underwear.

I Googled japanese tentacle porn, and will not be in the garage rinsing my eyes with bleach. Following this, I will come inside and eat all the tranquilizers I can lay my trembling little hands on.

gt , Wife has no real preferences, her still being somewhat shocked (yet strangely excited) at the idea that she’s spending her anniversary with a bunch of people she doesn’t know.

I told her that for 22 years, the keepsake thing is ‘new friends’, but I’m not sure she’s buying that.

:stuck_out_tongue:

What? I heard my name. What am I up for? And does it cost a lot or involve tentacles of an Asian persuasion?
I did a month’s worth of yard work in about 3 hours–it was so nice and cool (and low humidity) out. Yay! Did I mention that we are hosting the Red and White party at our house this Saturday for the Varsity and JV field hockey teams? 40+ girls running around, eating, laughing and playing pick up games (of FIELD HOCKEY you dirty brained varmits!).

Glad to hear that Libby is better.

Off to sleep now. I tried to do the meteor shower thing, but too much cloud cover last night. <sigh>

That must have been while I went to the washroom at the TronnaDope last Wednesday. No wonder everyone else had such an odd expression when I came back.

gardentraveler is visiting us! Sept 7! Dopefest! You must come!!!11!1!

I promise I won’t bring tentacles.

Good night to all the late nighters! Dotty, Lunch, Haze and Mamatigs. . .and anyone else staying up this late. Wish I could stay and party, but bummers, I’m off to bed. Have a great one!

Me too Sean. Tonight one of their more stellar pieces of equipment caused da bear much consternation and made me sweat and swear a lot. But I’m all better now! That last sentence was especially for BioRosie.

FCM what can I say, I’m a butt man. :stuck_out_tongue:

Taters I am really pleased you thought to purchase TP whilst havin’ your Costco splurge today. I buy the hyuuuuuuuuuuuge packs of TP at Sam’s Club personally. I like the TP and laundry detergent at Sam’s the best, though they do tend to have great deals on bottled water also.

Ok, da bear’s gettin’ sleepy. I’m thinkin’ a beerverage and beddy bye time is in order.

Nitey Nite Y’all!

Hey, only missed you by half an hour this time! Maybe you’re still there to say “good night” to?

And if you keep calling me lunch I’ll call you “Lump”. Either that or tell you to “eat me.” Or both…
