Travelogue -- a New World MMP

Lissla, I’m glad things look to be working out okay for the insurance and all that.

The Summer Fun begins. Tropical Storm Dean forms in the Atlantic, with projected landfalls in Yuck-uh-tan, Flarduh, and Cape Hat-ass.

Oddly enough, I’m hoping the hurricane wimps down to a TS, hits Hatteras, and makes a bee-line for Mayberry. HTG, we need 10" of rain to break our drought.

I just got a phone call from my husband. He had called our neighbor earlier to see if he wanted to go wakeboarding later today, but the neighbor had some bad news.

My neighbor had gone to the mall for some reason or another and had locked his vehicle up. However, the neighbor had left his wallet in the truck inside the center console, along with his $3,000.00 watch. Some assholes broke into his truck and stole the wallet, the watch, and all his CDs. They’d already used his credit cards at Wendy’s and K-Mart by the time neighbor reported it. It seems they broke into several other vehicles around my neighbor’s truck too.

So, now my neighbor is faced with cancelling all his cards and trying to get an ATM card before he leaves on his trip later this week.

I know what a pain in the ass all of this is, so I feel bad for him.

When my husband told me this, I told him that’s why I always park by the door if I can help it. This mall is notorious for having car break-ins. I never leave anything of value or with personal information on it in the rig when I go there. He told me now he understood why I always gave him such a rash of shit for wanting park closer to doors and security traffic.

Oh, ouch, Taters. That’s a huge pain in the ass. And only a few days to get everything sort-of cleaned up. Yuck. Poor guy.

The gelato was great.

Just sorta driving by.

Been trying to keep up, but have been having some hideous migraines lately.

{{{{{SCL}}}}} I know how dreadful it is to lose a friend you love! Please add me to the list of those caring and praying for you and Libby’s family.

LiLi - I too, am glad Mr. Lissar was not hurt. Prayers, hopes and best regards for y’all and his folks.

BTW: Special1 - great, really interesting OP. Glad y’all are back safe.

:waiving at everyone:

HSM

:: waves hi to Scribbles!!! ::

That’s awful about the friend Taters. Sure hope he’s able to get things cleared up soon.

meli sorry about your grandfather. It’s tough to watch a loved one go downhill. He’ll be in my thoughts and prayers.

Snakes please keep us updated about Libby’s funeral/memorial plans. I know none of us can be there but still, we’d like to be thinking about her, her family and especially you on that day. Don’t worry about cryin’ pretty. Like meli said, that’s a thing that does not happen IRL. Besides, that’s no time to cry pretty anyways.

I tried the new bbq place that just opened near da cave. Not too bad, actually. ‘Twas a good and real big bbq pork sammich I had, along with some fries and coleslaw. It’s on the list of places to go eat with ol’ y’all know who. I’m hopin’ we’ll get to meet up for lunch tomorrow, dependin’ on his schedule. It’s one of those real busy weeks for him, poor thing. Have I mentioned lately how much I miss not gettin’ to see him much durin’ the week? That’s the only drawback to workin’ second shift and it’s a big one. :frowning:

Waves at Scribbles/Postit/Posit.

BBBobbio glad you had a good visit with VunderKind. Didn’t he come through Charlotte to get there? Just wonderin’ cause you said he went back home through Etlanner.

Ok, off to get ready for work. Purple pocket tshirt and black jeans today. Y’all be good. Do your homework. Supper’s in the oven. It’s chicken and rice. There’s also broccoli. Eat it. It’s good for you! Oh, and no stayin’ up late. It’s a school night.

Later Y’all!

Well, he came down on US Scareways, and back on Deltuh. I wanted him to experience for hisself why even Og stops in Etlanner.

Good thing I like chicken and rice and broccoli, Swampy. Although I will admit that I am always mystified when Papa Tigs and I go eat at this little hole in the wall Italian place we found a while ago, that has the best garlic bread I have ever tasted – really fresh bread with lots of butter and real chunks of garlic, yumm! – because one of their most popular pizza toppings is broccoli. :dubious: Yeah, I dunno, either. But they also have the best marinara sauce. I love Italian restaurants around here; since there’s such a large Italian population in South Jersey that grows the wonderful tomatoes they use, it seems like all the best little places use the fresh tomatoes. And they make for a really sweet and yummy marinara sauce. I’m not a tomato fan except well cooked in a sauce, but it’s impossible to find anything to complain about when the marinara is made with those heavenly fresh 'maters! Yum!

Thus far today I have done Not Much. A little knitting, a little winding yarn, a little plotting what I’ll do next. I think I’ll use a double strand of a fingering-weight wool/alpaca blend yarn to make some scarves; I’ve got a nice quantity of it in several colors, so now I just need to decide on pattern and needle size. Oh, and I also need to decide how to knit up a hat and scarf for snowbunny – a while back I found both fingering and light worsted weight 100% cashmere yarn in the same yummy royal blue color at an absolute steal of a price, but was only able to get 2 skeins of each. So while I have enough of the fingering to knit her a lovely soft warm hat, I probably will need to augment the scarf yarn. And I haven’t been able to find any more cashmere yarn at an even marginally reasonable price, for some strange reason. :frowning: So I’m thinking alpaca.

So now I need you guys’ help and input: With my base color of royal blue, would you augment with white, or a different shade of blue, or even a rich purple? Since the yarn I already have is such a rich blue it almost looks purple in the right light, but I’m not sure about what to do. I’d go by my local Very Expensive Yarn Shop to find something to match it, but I know if I do find it there I won’t be able to afford it. I dunno. For my daughter, should I splurge?

We almost bought some Ikea furniture, but realized that we couldn’t fit it into my truck to get it home. So make you you measure the boxes that the stuff you want to buy can fit in your vehicle. It sounds like you live close to that store, so it would probably only be an annoyance to run back with a bigger truck. Me, I had to drive 3 hours to get to the store, so we bailed on the mission.

I love the blue/white combination, but a lighter shade of blue might also be pretty.

[QUOTE=DottygumdropSean, I haven’t seen any puns for a while??? :frowning: [/QUOTE]

Sorry about that. I’ll be better in the future.

Wait a minute! I hate puns.

Speaking of puns, Spats has completely abandoned us, hasn’t he?

SCL I’m very sorry for your loss.

Make sure you point out to your parents (or was it his parents?) that this didn’t happen on an evil America highway, but right there at home.

Li-Li - I’m glad Mr Lissar is undamaged. The car can be replaced, even if it costs a pretty (or an ugly) penny - he can’t.

{{{{SCL}}}}
LiLi, thank Og that your husband is okay! That must have been a pretty scary accident!

Acid Lamp and I cleaned up the garage and went through the [del]crap[/del], er, stuff that was in there. Much was thrown out, and we discovered that the studs in the wall are not spaced properly to hang my bicycle. However, we managed to clean up enough space that there was a spot to put it on the floor next to all the other stuff along the wall. The floor is swept in there as well, which is quite the accomplishment, as everything looks so neat and organized and we might actually be able to find all our tools when we need them.

I have to go to work in about half an hour, and then I won’t have to go until Sunday, as I’ve taken off a couple of extra days for my mom to visit. [sub]Is it bad that I am hoping she’ll buy us stuff we need for the house?[/sub]

All this talk of food reminds me of Saturday at work. At the place that I work, Saturdays are the days where lunch is bought for everyone. As most of the guys that work there (and participate) are Hispanic, we get a lot of Hispanic food of different varieties most weeks. Last week, while eating the food, I had an intense longing for both Iceland and traditional Icelandic foods. :frowning: Hopefully while my mom’s here, I can find out if there’s an Icelandic-American association in the area or whether the Icelandic bakery in Clermont knows anyone who imports Icelandic goods. I could use to learn how to cook all those things I love, as my mom’s not going to live forever.

Yeah, the ironic part is that he was ten minutes from home. If we’d been in Indiana, we would be safe and the car wouldn’t have been damaged.
Explain to me why I want to clean instead of playing with fabric?
tashii, what are some traditional Icelandic foods? I don’t know anything about Icelandic food.

{{{{{{SCL}}}}}} I’m so sorry.

Dang, LiLi, what a scare! Glad Mr. Li is OK.

swampy, just how many purple shirts do you have? It seems every other day, that’s what you’re wearing!!

I am home alone without adult supervision and I’m trying to decide what to thaw for supper. I hate cooking for just me and I’m too tired to go out for something. This might just be another cereal night.

I got an award at work. But don’t get all excited or congratulatory, 'cause it’s not at all merited or anything. The chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff awarded a Joint Meritorious Unit Award to our parent command in Norfolk for something to do with the global war on terror. By default, everyone who fell under that command got the award. Heck, for the first 6 months of the award period (it covered all of 2005-2006) I was still in training and awaiting my clearance, and in the subsequent 18 months, I’ve never once been assigned anything that’s even remotely related to GWOT, although I do read newspaper articles that mention AlQaida. So now I have this photocopy of a certificate with the citation on it and a little lapel pin. I’m sorry, but unless it’s cash or a promotion, it’s not an award.

Well, it’s almost time for me to feed the critters, so I guess I’ll mosey towards the kitchen. As soon as I get out of my chair, Scruffy will be underfoot, yipping like a maniac. Such is life in FairyChatEstates.

Yes, but it still counts as a bullet point on your next evaluation. Which may (but probably won’t) lead to a pay raise.

I feel the same way as you re: the awards. I’m all “shooow me the MONEY!” when it comes to that.

I have the same award you just received. The little pin is still sitting in my desk drawer. I also have one of those from my previous command as well. You’re supposed to give back the little pin, but since I never wore it, I forgot about it. Think they’ll chase me down?

I have managed to accomplish nothing but taking a shower today. Oh…I braided my hair too. I didn’t feel like going through all the rigamorole of having to dry and flat iron it.
