Travelogue -- a New World MMP

Just like on the evals of the 487 other employees here, including the admin staff, the maintenance crew, and the folks who sit behind the security desk. Fight them terrorists! Woooooo!

Taters, this is the second little pin - I got one last time I worked here, although it was actually directly related to stuff we did, including me. If my ears were pierced, I could wear them as earrings, if I was so inclined. Instead, I’ll shove it in the drawer and shred the citation. Criminy, they couldn’t even pretend it was real by printing it out - they made COPIES!!!

I solved the supper dilemma - I had some pasta. meh. Ice cream later. Plus I’m finally getting around to boxing up the ceramics for the giveaway. I know I said I was doing it last week, but I kinda forgot. But I found the tape and I’ve got the boxes assembled. Just need to pack 'em and address 'em and mail 'em tomorrow. Unless I don’t… :stuck_out_tongue:

Yes, you definitely should.

Okay, I went with white alpaca; I’ll either knit double-strand or probably do some kind of a two-color pattern. I haven’t decided yet. But in any case, the yarn I bought? Comes from this animal, Shasta. All together now: Awww! It’s from the only alpaca farm in West Virginia, of all places. She only sells natural color fibers, no dying, so the white was the only choice I had except for cream, but she didn’t have that in the weight I wanted. There’s something fun about knowing the name of the animal the fiber came from. Either that or I’m just a complete dweeb. Or probably both.

Papa Tigs called an hour and a half ago and said he was about to leave. Since he normally calls me while he’s out on the highway (usually to complain about the other idiots sharing the road with him), I don’t know if that means he’s still stuck at work or is actually on his way home. I guess I’ll find out whenever he finally gets here. I just hope the coffee I put on when he said he was leaving isn’t cooked to undrinkable. :frowning:

ETA: For snowbunny: Pbbbbbbtht!

So aren’t you going to tell us about your first day at work? Huh? Huh?

Well, go me! I packaged up all the pots and emailed the recipients. There are still a few pieces left if anyone is interested. All I ask is that you reimburse me for the postage.

**FCD ** called and he was somewhat overwhelmed. This class he’s taking requires application of calculus. He’s been out of college a buncha years, so it’s a challenge for him. Me? I’d be weeping. Or drunk. Or both. I did OK in calc classes, but I never really learned how to apply the theory to practice, plus I graduated in 1979 - how could I possibly remember stuff from that long ago??

Ice cream has been consumed. Life is good.

Snakescatlady: I am truly sorry for the loss of Libby. Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.
Lisslar-this is a bad week for the MMPers. Thank goodness your REAL husband is ok. My husband totalled my first car (well, it was actually the tow truck that ran into my Datsun 200sx that totalled it). His hand was hurt and now gives him “rheumatic” pains. I wouldn’t be able to resist telling the parents that Canada is obviously a bad place for accidents–much better to go to America…heh.
I am now terrified of my next semester. I have heard from both profs and both classes look really hard, with tons of work. I have been slacking these past two semesters (sure, I’ve been whining; that comes with the territory). I signed up to do the first debate (to get it over with. Plus, I have to do both ACLS and PALS in November–I’m trying to get as much stuff out of the way as possible early on).
Spent $727 registering my two older kids for HS yesterday, along with 3 hours of my life–in a hot school (they haven’t turned the AC on yet).
I made crushed up dark choc plain m & m cookies today. They’re good.

Yikes! on the accident LiLi! Glad Mr. Lissar is ok!

Stuck at work on a project that has to be finished tonight. Bleh. :frowning:

Oooh, I want cookies.

I feel somewhat calmer today than I’ve been feeling in a while. My brother now has a place so he’ll FINALLY be out of my hair. And in two days I’ll get to see Scottish Darling! We’re meeting up in DC and staying with my oldest friend (we’ve known each other since we were 8) who is also a darling and one of the only childhood friends I still keep in touch with. We first bonded over a birdhouse . . . but that’s another story.

Anyway, the guy I had a date with a few weeks ago has been bugging me to meet him again. I keep wavering between “aw, that’s sweet” and “ack I am too busy to deal with this!” Plus I seriously have The Sick right now (you guys should hear my voice, it’s totally husky and seductive  ) but he seems to think that I’m pretending to be sick in order to avoid meeting him. He insintuated as much. I felt kind of insulted. Sorry dude, strike one. I’m meeting him for lunch tomorrow, so we’ll see how it goes.

All is not well in our Faire world. About a month ago, the wife of the guy who ran a popular attraction committed suicide. I don’t know what brought her to that point, mainly as I’d only seen her once or twice - uusally I’d be interacting with her husband, and even that was uncommon as we were at far opposite ends of the Faire site.

Last night, I found out that another long-time vendor died of high-velocity water poisoning. In other words, he jumped off the Golden Gate Bridge last Tuesday. Again, no idea why.

I didn’t really know either person, but I’m a bit amazed at the demons that were bothering these two people. They’re at least at peace, but that doesn’t help their spouses and families.

You’re coming to our area?? And we’re not having a Dopefest??

Dang.

:smack: I’m terrible at geography. When I hear DC all I think about is Virginia.

We’re only going to be there a couple days, and I’ll probably be visiting again soon, as Oldest Friend lives there. Actually I was there last winter, but that was before I was an MMPer, come to think of it. Opportunities lost!

Well, Haze, within reasonable distance from DC, you’ve got me, MamaTigs, tarra, and welby, and **BibKitty ** is just a wee bit up the road in Baltimore. You need to think about us when you’ll be around here for a little while. That’s an order!!! :stuck_out_tongue:

I believe there are detailed MMP rules of travel. When traveling, remember to inquire whether there are any MMPers anywhere near there. Also, allot time for meeting up with any MMPers who speak up. They were referring us when they said “don’t be a stranger.” Right? Right?

I hereby declare a moratorium on MMPer bad news. (This is supposed to be Spats’s job!!!)

Here are more hugs, SCL. And I third the “no such thing as crying pretty” comments.

So glad to here Mr. Lissar wasn’t hurt, LiLi! I’d be shaking too. Here, have some more gelato.

Glad the lightning didn’t result in major damage, Bobbio. And sorry the VunderKid is gone again; sure seems like it was a short visit.

Hey, FCM, have you looked at your post count recently? Just passed another impressive milestone. Probably more meaningful than your award, I’m afraid.

Glad you stopped by meli. Sorry about your grandfather, though. Tell Ali we say hi…

The drama du jour chez GT is that I have no gas. Went to make dinner and the burner went out quickly. The range is less than a year old, so I tried the other burners. Nothing. Oven: nothing. I still had some hot water, but didn’t really want to use it if that was all I had, so I thought I’d throw something in the dryer. Wouldn’t even turn on.

I checked my gas bill to make sure there hadn’t been some freak accounting accident I’d missed. It’s auto-paid, so it’s not like I can forget. Last payment went through a couple weeks ago, next payment is scheduled for a couple weeks from now. Checked all the circuit breakers.

Walked around the perimeter of the house sniffing for gas. Nothing. Went to the curb (my gas comes from some magical location near there). Nothing.

Decided to call the gas company because I was picturing a gas line broken somewhere that no one had reported. Nice gas guy arrived a few minutes ago and found that, indeed, my appliances have not all gone on strike simultaneously. He’s made sure that my gas line isn’t damage and is in the process of turning stuff back on. He seems to be having trouble finding where to turn it on near the street; he’s measuring stuff all over the place. But at least I won’t have to pay for the visit, because it’s not a problem with my appliances.

I’ve also resolved the mystery of my reluctant-to-close garage door. When Local Best Friend’s dad was here, he did some clean-up in my garage (did I mention he removed 3 dead branches from my crab apples, too? He rocks.). He propped some thin wood stakes just in the way of the electric eye. Didn’t bother the door the first time it closed, but I could only get it to close up to about four inches above the ground last night. Did some sweeping and finally noticed that the stakes might be in the way. I moved them and - voilá! - garage door closed just fine.

Guess I should be reading. Book group is coming up in a couple days and I’m only 1/2 done.

Back after a while with important gas line updates.

GT

Wait…I forgot to post something earlier.

I checked my work schedule and I’M OFF FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 7th!

So, where’re we going? I like Italian…Can we go centrally located downtown, so I can take the train? Can someone bring the tentacles and bacon salt?

This is exciting!

Ok, off to get stuff ready for work in the morning. I still don’t like work(I’d rather be loafing), but it’s nothing like it was before–I think I may actually like my job. How weird is that? I’ve never had a job I liked.

Ooooh, yay!!! rigsy can join us! Central downtown is fine with me; so’s Italian. Any suggestions?

Gas line update: guy can’t find the valve, so no one turned it off by accident. Current theory is that the electric work that’s going on across the street messed with my gas line. He’s nosing around some more and might need to get a whole crew out here to undo the damage. Stooooopit electric people.

GT

Work went fine…not too much to report, except that I’ve got tons and tons to learn. I already knew that though. It was a fairly slow day, because she didn’t schedule very many dogs it being her first day back after a vacation. Fine by me, really. I did a lot of watching what was going on, and doing this and that sort of stuff like vacuuming up dog hair (nothing new, that job!) and assorted cleaning. I so love picking up dog crap. Not. But it’s part of the whole dog experience, unfortunately.

SNL–You’re my new personal hero, thanks to that Pit thread. Good going!

I am speechless…

nightynight?

g’night all…now I need a nightlight. (the severed arm is just too much for me–or maybe the vagina is. btw, both links in the thread are SFW)

Eeeeep!

Holy sweet Jesus, that’s expensive! Was school that expensive when I was younger??

I spent 90 minutes on the phone with tech support tonight because I couldn’t get an internet signal. Ugh. I’m honestly still not quite sure what the problem is or why I have a signal now, so I’m just hoping that it doesn’t go away now. And after reading what’s going on in everyone else’s week, I’m feeling pretty lucky that I only have tech problems right now

I have to work on Friday Sept. 7th, but I’m free at night (i.e. past 5 pm or so) …

eeep indeed - but the counterpart pillow is just an arm, so feh on that.

by the way - is it just me, or were the Boards down for several hours tonight?
