Well, yeah… right. Unless one’s traveling with family and can’t get them to understand the whole concept… :o
Nope, not just you. Well, except for me it was this morning. Nothing quite like getting to work, getting your first cup of coffee, trying to check what happened in the MMP overnight and… nada.
What on Og’s green Earth are you doing up at 4 AM, though? ETA: saw your second post. Nevermind. Hope you manage to get some sleep after all
It also means Roo didn’t have a change to say “Good Night / Good Morning.” Roo, I’m sure you tried, so it OK Sleep well! ~waves~
**Haze **-- you’re sure getting around lately! I’m jealous (and I’ve just been on a long trip myself. Go figure…)
**Rigs **-- if it’s any kind of consolation (and I’m sure it isn’t, but what can I do), school is expensive in other parts of the world as well
Well, I may as well go back to normal… Good Morning, everybody!
Nesting. The SiL had it too… Bro and her used to have this arrangement where cleaning was her job, cooking and stocking the pantry was his. But during the pregnancy she was doing something she hadn’t done before, which is criticize him for how he piled up things in the pantry and the fridge: “this head of lettuce is not completely wrapped! Look, I can see some green! How can you be so careless!”
He told Mom and me about it and that it was driving him nuts; we looked at each other and said “nesting. We’re sorry.” He said “oh… OOOOH! How long will it stay after the baby’s born?” “Until the first time she cleans baby poo. Believe me, baby poo has a way to make any other dirt around the house look (and, specially, smell) unimportant.”
Once he had an End Date he was able to deal with it… but damn, I sure hope you don’t take your case out on the husbands.
Yep, I tried to get here too, when I woke up in the middle of the night.
IF2X I think we’re mostly talking about evening anyway. I’m not sure yet what time I’ll get to Chicago. If I drive, it’ll be about 3 when I get there. If I fly, I could be there much earlier, though. If anyone wants to meet up earlier, I’d like that. Not sure what I’ll do with my luggage in the meantime, but I’m sure I can work something out. I’m leaning toward flying because I hate driving that far, hate driving in Chicago (don’t like driving in big cities I’m not familiar with generally), don’t want to pay for a week’s parking (which I presume I’d have to do), and will be spending most of my time with a group who won’t have a car either.
Gas people are still outside digging stuff up. I’m just glad this didn’t happen while Local Best Friend’s parents were here. We would have had LBF’s house with back-up shower facilities, but it would have been really inconvenient.
Why is it that I’m really alert when I get up, but slowly get sleepy? I wanna crawl back into bed!
Off to get ready for work. Gotta go chat with those nice gas people about when they think they’ll be done, too. I’ll have to let them in at some point, but I also need to go into work for at least a couple hours. So I’m hoping they’re either really really close or still several hours away.
Happy Wednesday!

This is The Domnestic Goddess[sup]tm[/sup] you’re talking about. I maintain that she’ll never experience nesting, because she does all that kind of stuff 24/7 to begin with.
Blurph. Morning, y’all. Caffeine consumption underway.
Nothing exciting to report. I found out last night that I was 3rd of 19 in my EMT class . My hand surgery to remove a baby alien from the last knuckle of my right pinkie is scheduled for September 5th. TS Dean looks like it won’t hang a right and come up the East Coast, so we’ll remain dry in Mayberry.
Gotta go work now.
I [del]lied[/del] forgot. There was some excitement last night. I was outside walking Freya just before bedtime (9ish PM), and I heard a gunshot and excited voices from the neighbor’s house. This was definitely something unusual, so I took the dog inside, grabbed my 12 ga. and had VWife call the sheriff.
When I got over there, I found out the son (the one who screwed up his Achilles Tendon in May) had taken a shot at a bobcat who was trying to eat their kittycat. I hurredly called the sheriff back and told them all clear. Fred the dad was tickled that I came to the rescue…
The soonest I can probably make it on the 7th would be early evening-ish anyway. I’m generally about an hour’s drive into the city at that time of the day. Anywhere is good with me (and Wife), Italian sounds good.
Ok. Workworkworkwork…
Howdy. It was a long day and night last night, made long er by the fact that the system wouldn’t sing “Daisy” for me with out a long call to the helpdesk. The I get home and the Dope was down.
LiLi, glad Mr. Lisslar is OK, especially since the phrase “I’m down to five husbands” kinda cuts the condolence visits short.
Sorry about you grandpa, meli
Hiya, scribbles!
I don’t work on Fridays, but I’ll probably be still unpacking and whatnot at that point. 5pm sounds good to me. w00t!
For some reason my alarm didn’t go off this morning! Thank God my internal alarm clock kicked in. I came to work half an hour later than I usually do, but I usually get to work an hour early, so it’s all good.
Morning, all. I struggled to get to sleep last night, and then struggled to get up this morning, so I’m off to a late start. Fortunately, I don’t have a busy day, so it’s not a problem; I’m pretty good at making myself get up when I have pressing deadlines. I just don’t like to.
Mayberry is just full of excitement, isn’t it, BBBobbio? I tell you, you’re an all-around guy – shoot 'em or patch 'em up, you can do it all!
Silly me, I didn’t even realize the Dope was down last night – first I was actually trying to get a bit of work done, but mostly I was trying a new knitting pattern, a variation of an old pattern called brioche, only this one is called fluffy brioche – I’m not sure why it’s fluffy, mostly it’s just a nice texture. I’m trying it in a wool/alpaca blend. I tried three variations of double strand/needle size, and finally decided that it’s textured enough that single strand is probably better (it’s a fingering weight yarn) because otherwise it’s too stiff. I want it to drape nicely. Anyway, it’s always fun trying new things. I also finished up that easy cable scarf I was knitting, so am planning on doing a few more with different cables to make it interesting. There’s at least 20 million variations on cables, so it’s mostly a matter of picking which one I want to use. And I know this is just fascinating for you all, so I don’t know why I’m babbling on about it.
Other than that I got nuttin’ today. Back to caffeinating and knitting. And maybe working once the brain cells are actually firing.
Was the neighbor’s kittycat ok, BBBobbio? Great story and good on you for going to see what was wrong!
Yay for priceline! We’re going home for the weekend in a couple weeks, and **KeithT **got us a room at the Crowne Plaza for $60/night! Pretty cool. I’m all for moving up to nicer hotels from our previous standard of Super 8.
Good luck getting the gas fixed, gt! I can’t imagine how inconvenient that is. Ugh.
OK, this:
requires some explanation!
I’m caffeinated and dressed and about to head out. It takes all of five minutes (if that long, depending on traffic, which will mostly go away after Labor Day I’m told) to get there, so I can leave later than I used to for previous jobs.
The people next door left with their damn alarm beeping. Upstairs here I can’t hear it, but downstairs I can’t. How annoying! I’m going to go over there this evening and mention it to them, nicely. It’s not like they did it on purpose, I’m sure.
Gotta go.
Kittycat is fine but still cowering AFAIK. Their cat is the son of our resident feral cat Sylvester, so there’s a connection.
They’ve had problems recently with 2-legged prowlers, so I was very glad that it was nothing more than a wild critter.
Dayum. I go out to run a few quick errands, and when I get home not only did we have a power blink, just enough to knock my computer off and mess up every clock in the house, but the boards are down! At least they came back fairly quickly. This time.
Isaac the Idiot is becoming far more of an optimist than is really warranted. Just because the last couple of days, in an attempt to make up for his sadness over snowbunny not being here any more, I’ve been taking him out to play a couple times a day instead of once, he’s decided I should do it every hour on the hour today. He’s SOL, obviously. But especially because Papa Tigs got cut back to therapy only twice a week, but is still booked to leave work Wednesdays on time in order to get to therapy (he’s there 1-3 hours late every other day, just trying to stay ahead of the chaos), so he’s going to go ahead and leave even though he doesn’t have therapy and come home and take the Idiots to the Bestest Place Ever. Which hopefully will tire them out enough that maybe tomorrow he’ll only want to go out and play every two hours on the hour. Stoopid dog.
I’m home for the duration. Gas people stopped by to give an update. They’re going to hook me up again temporarily and then come back tomorrow and replace about 50 ft. of the main line which is filled with mud. They’ve basically been digging the main line up until they could find the end of the mud. Fortunately, I’ve got lots I can do from home. I can also check to see if the VPN will cooperate; our IT people think RoadRunner is blocking me, but wanted to verify their theory. This is the first time in months I’ve had a chance to check during working hours.
Back later…

Down to seven Husbands. That doesn’t generate much sympathy.
Argh. Mr. Lissar’s Mom and fiance are offering to pay our train fare to Napanee so we can meet him and hang out in the City of Excitement. I just looked up the train fare prices and I’m having minor heart attacks ($600! To Kingston! Two hours away! Roundtrip? I could fly there for less! Maybe!) plus we’ll be getting to do the Unfun Part of the Trip if we go. All inlaw stuff.
But they’ve offered, and we’re feeling guilty because they were really looking forward to it. We may go. (For $600?! Aagh!) It just seems like a huge waste of money for a couple of days in a damn boring location.
Anyway, brioche is tasty if it’s not made out of yarn. Buttery sweet bread. Yum. I like it a lot.
I like to eat brioche made out of bread, too. But it’s also a pretty knitting pattern, and actually bears a fairly noticeable resemblance to the shape of the bread, strangely enough – a lot of knitting patterns bear names of things they’re supposed to resemble, but it takes an exceedingly active imagination to get from one to the other.
Why am I not working right now? Can someone please tell me?
Grrrrr, stoopit dope. I had a post typed and then it kept telling me I’d already posted it. Sheeaahh! In an alternate universe!
Anyway, since I’ve nearly forgotten everything I posted, please accept “aww, boo, yay, and phooey.” Hope that sums up everything.
I do know I let y’all know the pool deck got poured. Looks good. Electrician is there today to hook up the pump and put in some extree exterior sockets we want for lighting and whatnot. Next comes the acrylic for the deck and then paint for that. Finally pebbletec, water, and final grading. Mr. Anachi is chomping at the bit to landscape. We have queen palms, giant birds of paradise, robolinis, bouganvillas, and hibiscus all waiting in the wings. I’mma gonna think I live in Jamaica!
Attention! We don’t want or need no steenkin storms by the name of Dean or Erica, so Skeedaddle!! I have spoken.
Now let’s just see if the hamster responded to the defibrillator.
Tupug
Argh, and double argh. When I first got on the boards this morning, there was no inclination there was any problem, until I tried to submit my post. Then it said there was an issue, and then it said I was double posting! So, my post, obviously, didn’t make it, because I don’t see it.
At any rate, quick recap of what I tried to post this morning:
Turns out daughter is “slightly anemic”, so I’m off to pick up a prescription for her shortly. She has to be on it for three months, but after being on it for one month, I need to bring her back in for another test to see how things are going.
Bobbio, glad to see that your neighbor’s problems were only caused by quad-legged critters and not by bi-ped critters.
gt, I’m glad to see that your gas problems are being sorted out.
That’s all I can remember from this morning. I should have had more coffee.
Oh, also I had mentioned how jealous I am becoming of all these little MMP-fests.
You all need to move here, dammit! Don’t any of you travel this way?!
