I recently got a used Treo 650 off of eBay. Seems to work fine, once I charged it. It is not my device yet as far as phone service. I want to get the proper accessories and grok it fully before I switch over.
Having poked around, I find one thing seriously missing- and it’s something all other phones I’ve owned has. I know there is a “silence” mode on the top of the unit. I know I can set the silence mode to vibrate, or to be silent. So, this question is not about that mode.
When operating in normal tones mode, there are tones that can be assigned to a variety of incoming alerts- text messages being one of them. However, the long list of tones does not seem to include a Vibrate choice. I can pick Silent for any incoming alerts, or a variety of ring tones and snatches of music.
I always use Vibrate to let me know I got a text message. That way, it is not as intrusive as a tone but I feel the buzz, and know that when I have a private moment, I can check the text message and reply.
Am I missing something, or does this device not come with this option ?
Any basic good use suggestions for the Treo 650, while we’re at it ?
I don’t think what you’re describing is a possibility with the default software; there are, however, a number of different ringtone managers available and I think some of them will do what you’re wanting, as well as making it possible to have MP3 ringtones and other stuff. The downside is that none of them are free.
Under Settings/Sound & Notifications I can set an audible alert, vibrate when ringer off, and vibrate when ringer on. The last three are check boxes under the long list of alert tones. Do you not have this option?
Thank you for providing this link! I had just posted in another thread asking about phones that had internet capabilities, and I really appreciate the help.
I have the unit here. The Home menu offers me a Sound icon. I click that and am shown the name- Sounds and Alerts. Below it, it kinda looks like this:
Application ^ Phone
[ **Volume** l Tones ]
=(-l Sound Mode On
Alert Volume ^ 4
OOPS. Hey. I think I got it. I have to chose Application: MMS ( Messages ), then hit Volume and make it Zero, then hit Tones and chose No Tone, then hit Vibrate ON when sound is on, yes ? In this manner, while the sound for the phone overall is On, the MMS setting is No ringtone, no sound, just vibrate.
Yes? I don’t have the unit activated yet, so I am kinda moving in the dark here. Should this work?
