Triangle Dopers--Who Wants to Party?!

Well, at Crabtree at least (don’t know about the others), you DO get the money back if you leave the shelter clean and in good shape afterwards, but someone’s gotta put the bucks up in the first place.

And here I thought that this was going to be a party for gay people. :frowning:

Sorry chaoticdonkey, but if it’s any consolation you’re welcome to come too.
Also, where are most of these parks? Are they in the Chapel Hill/Durham area? I’ve lived here a whopping 10 months or so but most of that time has been spent in the Raleigh area and one small section of Duke hospital. Friday evenings are fine as long as it’s after 5.

They’re all over the place–Lake Crabtree Park is in Morrisville, Eno Park is in Durham, Umstead is in Raleigh (on 70), and Jordan Lake is south of Durham.

Hi, CrazyCatLady! Where do you live?

How’s Friday, April 9? If we do a Friday evening, it might be better not to do a picnic, because it’ll get dark too soon (and maybe a little chilly). Maybe we can take a raincheck on the picnic until later in the summer.

Yeah, the parks are only open until sunset or 8 pm (whichever comes first), so if it’s on a Friday evening, we’ll have to pick somewhere else.

CrazyCatLady is in Greensboro.

audiobottle, Lake Crabtree Park is near the airport, which is one reason why I suggested it, since it’s easy to get to and centrally located. Eno River Park is large - it actually starts behind my house in Hillsborough and then stretches east into Durham, so it’s in the northern part of Orange and Durham counties. If you live in Raleigh, then Umstead is probably the one closest to you.

I’m down with the April 9th. I think I actually know where Umstead park is! Are there soccer fields nearby? So where should we eat on that Friday?

audiobottle, here’s the web site for Umstead. It includes a map. As for where to meet, take a look at post #3 in this thread. Anything there sound good to you?

Blue Corn and Zorbas both sound interesting and good. What say you all?

Blue Corn Pros: Cheaper, near Francesca’s and The Regulator
Blue Corn Cons: Parking can be difficult, will probably be crowded on a Friday night, no reservations

Zorba’s Pros: Can get a reservation, will not be packed (most likely), easy to get parking
Cons: More expensive.

How about Margaret’s? It’s about halfway between Raleigh and Greensboro, right off of 40, lots of parking, and cheaper than Zorba’s. And it’s close to Cup-a-Joe, which isn’t the same as Francesca’s, but they do have some desserts and stuff.

Maybe we should wait until the date gets a bit closer and see how many people are interested? If we only have 4 or 5, we can probably go anywhere. Margaret’s would probably having trouble handling a larger group too. They are always packed on weekends.

How is Friday April 9 for everyone?

April 9th sounds good

That sounds like a good plan. Who else is in for April 9th?

Too bad we can’t go to Carrburritos. I went there tonight–mmmmm, good burritos. I was brave, and I got some habanero salsa (in addition to my usual salsa frutas. If any of you non-Chapel Hill people are ever in that no-man’s land in between Chapel Hill and Carrboro, go get yourself a burrito at Carrburritos–you’ll thank me!

So far, we don’t have very many people for the 9th. :frowning: Is that a bad day? Is anyone else planning on coming on the 9th? Can I bribe anyone with chocolate pie? I make a really fabulous chocolate pie (and I’m not tellin’ how easy it is to make–that’s my little secret!)

If you’re looking for other fun things to do, the Bynum General Store Front Porch Music Series is kicking off on April 1 with the Two Dollar Pistols. It looks like a good lineup this year–some of my favorites, and a lot of new bands. It’s a fun place to hang out on Friday nights when the weather’s warm (just remember to bring some bug spray!) Shows run from 7 to 9 or 9:30. And if you have children, it’s very kid-friendly. Dogs are welcome, too.

You might be able to get more info at Welcome to Carrboro.Com - Your hometown website (but you might have to search for “Bynum” to get to the right page).

So, is anyone still interested in getting together on the 9th? It looks like it’s not the best day, so maybe we should pick a different day. Edsel 500 is playing at the Bynum General Store, and I’ve heard they’re great, so we could go with a change of venue and meet there (no food at the General Store, but you can stop at Allen and Son for some great barbecue on the way there).

I saw the Two Dollar Pistols Friday night–great show! It was inside, but if the weather’s good, the music moves outside, and it’s a lot more fun that way. It’s kid-friendly and dog-friendly, so you can bring your whole family!

Not Edsel 500…Sarah Lee Guthrie and
Johnny Irion

Sounds good to me. It sounds great.

I live day to day…hope I can make it.

That’s the schedule from last year. That was a great show, and a good party after the show with Sarah Lee and Johnny and their baby!

This year’s schedule is at:
http://carrboro.com/bynummusic/

I hope you can make it! The show starts and 7 and ends around 9 or 9:30. Let me know if you need directions.

By that link…the show is on the 8th.

You’re right–I was thinking the 9th was Friday, but it’s the 8th.

So, to clear everything up, Edsel 500 is playing at the Bynum General Store this Friday, April 8th. If you’ll be there, email me and I’ll tell you what I look like, so you can find me in the huge crowd. (Don’t laugh–a lot of people show up when Tift Merritt plays at the Bynum General Store!)

The Independent has an article on Bynum this week (check it out now–it’ll be gone on Wednesday). http://indyweek.com/durham/current/musicspot.html

Can’t believe I just now noticed this thread, a month in the works too.

Never heard of Bunym General Store. Sounds worth checking out. Something’s not right when I meet Londopers before Triangle Dopers. Need to do something about that. Anybody else coming?
