Twin Cities Dopefest-March 2009?

We are in the cruel depths of winter. Let’s party!

March is looking pretty open for me, and it’ll take us that long to coordinate anyways.

Anyone have any suggestions, recommendations, ideas?

St. Patrick’s Day? Tuesday March 17th. There’s always a parade in St. Paul.

Steak and a BJ day? Saturday, March 14. We could go to Manny’s or Lindy’s or something similar, but I doubt blowjobs are on their menu. Plus a steakhouse is a little spendy for some.

I could throw a party at the house, but I live in the middle of nowhere. Not sure how many can/want to drive that far.

C’mon folks, we had a great time last Dopefest, let’s put our heads together and see what we can come up with.

I’m in, and TheKid would like to join along, if possible.
The only day that is out for us is March 14th.

Unfortunately, I work Tuesday to Saturday, so unless it’s on a Sunday, or a Saturday night, I can’t make it.

So, let’s look at Saturday the 21st or the 28th.

I’d make time on either the 21st or 28th. I had a good time last time!

Eli

Those dates look good to me. We had fun last time too.

Maybe just get together at Buca or something like that that isn’t too expensive. The afternoon thing we did last time worked well because the restaurant wasn’t crowded.

If people don’t mind coming to the SW suburbs, there’s a newBaja Sol Cantina that’s really good in EP. They have a salsa bar!

21st would be better, 28th is very doable.

I’d like to come to this, too.

Saturdays are out for me unless we do it later, like suppertime.
March 17th, St, Patricks Day sounds like fun. But could outstate people make it in for that?

The salsa bar *is *good, but I found the food to be just average. What did you order - was it excellent? Maybe I’ll try it next time.

I like their fish tacos a lot. I wouldn’t go so far as to say excellent, but really good. I’ve forgotten what my husband had, but he liked it too, and I took a bunch of coworkers there, and they all want to go back so I think they liked whatever they had.

If people like Indian food, I’ve found the India Palace, in Roseville just off Cty Rd C and 35W, to be a real good place to eat. And pretty reasonable prices.

Those dates work for me too! Yay! See all y’all there.

We’re good with Indian and would be ok with going to Roseville.

That reminds me…

If you’re a Beatles fan and looking for something to do this Friday (February 20)night, please come on down to the Dark Horse Revue at the Varsity Theater. The show (which my husband puts together every year) brings together the Twin Cities’ top talent to pay tribute to the great George Harrison.

The show includes a revolving cast of performers from year to year. This year’s show at the Varsity will feature performances from Randy Casey, John Eller, Steve Price, Adam Levy, Jon Duncan, Dave Russ, Jenny Russ, Kevin Nord, Laurie Glaser, Janey Winterbauer, and lots of other fabulous musicians.

The Dark Horse Revue is a really fun way to preserve the memory of such an influential artist and great human being. Everyone involved recognizes how important George was to the sound of the Beatles and to the world at large. This tribute is a good opportunity to see many great Minnesota musicians pool their talents to perform timeless classics from one of the world’s preeminent songwriters.

Tickets are still available from the Varisty box office and will be sold at the door for a cool $10 (all proceeds go to the Material World Charitable Foundation, created by Harrison in 1973).

Show information here and here.

So far it sounds like Saturday the 21st, in the evening, works best.

Right?

As for where, I’m down for anything but a fish house or sushi joint. Blech.

Saturday the 21st works!

I have no opinions one way or the other about location. Buca’s can be fun, and isn’t there some other joint that has the same kind of ambience/serving style?

The Baja is the most convenient for me, but I am so used to driving, it really doesn’t matter.

We’re out for the 21st now… something came up and I hadn’t seen the update to the thread settling on the 21st. Oh well. We’ll catch up with everyone next time.

Are we looking at the India Palace in Roseville? That’s close, convenient and good, so I’m all for it, but I just want to confirm that’s what we’re doing.

This sounds a lot like the last time we attempted one of these things. Never got a date or place nailed down.

I work Saturdays and don’t get off until after 5pm, on the south end of the cities. But I might be able to make it up to India Palace the evening of Saturday, March 21 if that is the plan. I’m poor, so it can’t be anywhere spendy.

It’s looking like the Indian palace in Roseville, March the 21st. We might be able to convince a couple of WI people to come…

If anyone needs a ride from the south or west, I can probably help.
