Tributes to Jennifer Paradis (@TubaDiva) - musical, visual, and written

In Paradisum (Gabriel Fauré)

In paradisum deducant te angeli
May angels lead you into paradise

(Please add your own.)

Far from perfect, but best I could do in a hurry:

Goodbye Straight Dope’s rose,
May you ever grow in our hearts,
You were the soul that kept us calm,
When our board was torn apart.
You called out to us Dopers,
And you told us it would be all right,
Now you belong to heaven
You’re a new star in the sky tonight.

And it seems to me you spent your time,
Like an Admin with a plan.
You always knew what to do,
Said what we cannot and what we can.
You steered us for years,
Upon the Straight Dope message board.
Your advice will be remembered,
Your legacy’s adored.

So much we have lost,
We’ll carry on, but we’ll miss you so,
Your influence will long last here,
More than you’ll ever know.
Goodbye, Straight Dope’s rose,
From Dopers all around the planet Earth,
To whom you gave so much,
And gave this board its worth.

Tuba, you steered us well,
Upon the Straight Dope message board.
Your advice will be remembered,
Your legacy’s adored.

@Spoons, I love it. It says just how I feel.
Touching.

The best pic I could find on the internet of Jenny:

I have a picture but can’t post it.

Upload it to any image site first, then link to it.

ImgBB is quick and easy, and you don’t even have to sign up, but any other place where you can upload images should work.

To us Dopers, the most beautiful name, in the wide world

Smooth sailing, and Godspeed, my friend.

George Carlin hits the nail on the head.

I’d like to maybe write a piece of music in memory of TubaDiva. I hope that’d be okay.

Such a sad loss.

What a loss…I lurk here more than participate, but I’ve always appreciated her, certainly she had to herd cats and at times, was in no-win situations…but she really seemed to handle it with grace and tact, she will certainly be missed…my thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends at this time…

That’s a great idea, thank you.

What a lovely tribute that would be, Emily! I look forward to it.

Thanks, Helena and betterlife.
I didn’t want to seem like I was self-promoting, or tooting my own horn (or tuba.)

We Remember Them
by Sylvan Kamens & Rabbi Jack Riemer

At the rising sun and at its going down, we remember them.
At the blowing of the wind and in the chill of winter, we remember them.
At the opening of the buds and in the rebirth of spring, we remember them.
At the blueness of the skies and in the warmth of summer, we remember them.
At the rustling of the leaves and in the beauty of the autumn, we remember them.
At the beginning of the year and when it ends, we remember them.
As long as we live, they too will live, for they are now a part of us as we remember them.

When we are weary and in need of strength, we remember them.
When we are lost and sick at heart, we remember them.
When we have decisions that are difficult to make, we remember them.
When we have joy we crave to share, we remember them.
When we have achievements that are based on theirs, we remember them.
For as long as we live, they too will live, for they are now a part of us as, we remember them.

Jewish mourning prayer

I just posted a video I made of myself playing Lacrymosa from Mozart’s Requiem in D minor on tubas.

Sad but beautiful.
