I must find a way to watch this. If you don’t remember Trigger Happy TV, Dom Joly had this hilarious prank show that was unique and special. He focuses on doing pranks to people, and immediately cutting away to another without really giving the viewer time to let it soak in.
Some of the best bits were almost like surrealist performance art staged in public places, like two guys dressed as animals and having a kung-fu fight in the middle of the street. The whole show was delightfully absurdist.
What I really liked about Trigger Happy TV is that, unlike most prank shows, it never set out to embarrass or ridicule the unwitting target. Most of time Dom and his accomplices were the butt of their own jokes, and at other times it was simply nobody.
Just to add… my other favourite is a shot of people waiting for an elevator, and when the doors open there’s Dom eating a meal at a fully laid table, fancy silverware and everything.
The people dressed up as dogs engaged in an endless fight was amusing. And also when he played a park warden telling off OAPs for walking on the grass or playing football, etc.
