Trimmer for a guy's head?

My SO decided to keep his head shaved, and since deciding that maybe 2 months ago has almost worn out the trimmer he had. Does anyone know of a good trimmer for that purpose?

There’s this.

I’ve still got the Bestron dsf 948 trimmer I bought for about 15 euros 10 years ago and used to trim my head for at least 6 years of that period. Good value for money that was. The only thing I needed to do was adjust the screws and oil it occasionally (I used plain bicycle chain oil).

I’ve been giving myself crew cuts every few weeks for the better part of 10 years with a cheap Wahl trimmer I’m sure I bought at Target or Wal-Mart 12-15 years ago.

I don’t even bother cleaning the blades on it any more. It seems damn near indestructible.

Try the Remington Shortcut.

I give myself a close haircut with a cheap Conair hairclipper I got at Walmart for $10.00. Been three years now works great.

When the OP said, shaved, do you mean actually shaving it? Or do you mean cutting it really close. There’s a difference. I could never shave my head without cutting it all to pieces. So I’ve been just cutting it with the shortest possible setting on the Conair

I can second the HeadBlade. That’s what my husband uses and he swears by it.

My vote is for the Wahl - we wore out a Remington in less than a year, our Wahl has done 10 years and is still going strong.

Si

The OP probably belongs in our opinion forum, IMHO. Moved.

When I started shaving my head several months ago, I bought an expensive brand-name shaver that I could use in the shower. I never got a close shave with it. After a month I started using the same Mach 3 disposable I use on my face, and I’ve never looked back.

I have the Remington Shortcut. I’ve been buzzing my head for a few years now with a traditional buzzer, and I decided to try the Shortcut because my cutter was falling apart and the Shortcut looked easier. I basically butchered myself. My hair still hasn’t grown back to where I look normal. It’s messy and doesn’t cut well, except the one or two times where it will actually shave your head to almost bare scalp. It was really excellent going to dinner with my girlfriend’s coworkers that night. Really, really excellent.

In other words, only buy it for an enemy.

I’ve been shaving my head for about 20 years now. For cutting it after letting it grow longer than a quarter inch I much prefer higher end Oster clippers. They do a much better job and last far longer than cheaper models. As far as actually shaving my head, I have tried the HeadBlade and found I did not like it at all. I currently use a Mach 3 and for the most grip it as follows. I hold the razor upside down with the handle between my first and middle fingers, my thumb rests on the handle near the blade and controls the pressure. The stroke is upwards against the grain. That’s basically it and I do shave in the shower.

Thanks for the recommendations (and anti-recommendations), I’ll pass them on and see what he thinks. Right now he’s not so much shaving as cutting really really short, but if there was a good way for him to be able to actually shave it by himself and have it be even he’d do that.

If he’s looking to actually shave it, I second the HeadBlade recommendation. But shaving was even more maintenance than doing nothing, as far as I was concerned.

Not sure if he already purchased, but I also recommend an Oster for cutting one’s own hair… I purchased the Turbo 111 off eBay (there is one for salefor $99 including shipping - not my auction).

I use mine weekly and have never had a problem…
