He passed away on June 22. Obviously any funeral or memorial service was done quite some time ago.
But there is a tradition here that for long time, active posters who die that we make a financial contribution to either something dear to his/her heart (some musical instruments in memory of TubaDiva) or if the family is in financial difficulty directly to them. Perhaps the OP can find something.
Funeral yes, memorial no. Or at least not necessarily.
A couple weeks ago I attended a memorial service for my late aunt and uncle. Aunt died in summer 2023. Uncle in spring 2025. The joint memorial was now, 6 months after the second death. Not everyone is in a big rush.
My real point (carried by my oh so subtle “, etc.,”) was that if there is a need and a process to help the family, let us all know. As you say in the second part of your post.
I’m linking to Ed’s obit. It really is a joy to read, despite how sad as it is. There is a mention of a scholarship fund that the family suggests for donations in his name.
Great obituary, he definitely lived a good life, yet too short.
He also loved fishing, Pepsi, crossword puzzles, his Celica and Mustang convertibles, professional wrestling, and arguing with people on internet forums.
Bolding mine. That’s us! Glad to have been a part of his life in some way, and glad he was a part of ours.
Thank you for sharing the information, and for linking the obituary. The link didn’t work for me, but I did find it on Legacy as well. My favorite line:
An often curmudgeonly and irascible man, the way he found joy was in feeding people.
