Trolling for MMORPG recommendations

Just got the new computer, and within the next week or so (fingers crossed), I will have broadband access (no cable or DSL for me. I’m 21st Century Man. Satellite broadband!! :D). So.

Which MMORPG should I buy? Has Ultima been fixed? Are there too many people on Everquest? Etc., etc.

I recommend staying away from that entire hell-spawned pack of time sinks, actually. Or at least waiting until the next generation of time sinks comes out. Seriously, most of the EverCrack addicts I know hate themselves for wasting inordinate amounts of time on a game that they don’t really enjoy anymore.

Don’t I know it. You are speaking to Gotheo, the eighth Bard to become a Legend in Gemstone III, a text-based MUD. That pretty much describes how I spent my third year at law school, and I’ll find out when I apply for an LLM program whether it caused permament damage to my future prospects.

Not the EQ word! Nooo! I’d nearly quit and you reminded me, sending me into catastrophic convulsions! But, uh, now that I’m back in my chair and have cleaned the spittle off every surface in ten feet… I’d recommend staying away from EQ with all of its devilry. I played it for quite some time before I got sick of it… and lost all form of a life. Still… if you’re set, I guess it can be entertaining and ultra time-consuming.

I’d wait for World of Warcraft to come out.

That is going to be downright badassed.

I’ve heard about WoW. I kinda told myself that I was still playing EQ just as filler between when Horizons or Dark Age of Camelot came out, but the more I thought about it, that was the last thing I needed. To start all over again in a brand new game… it makes my head spin and fills me with the urge to vomit. But, uh, have fun if you find a good one.

Thats only because everquest makes you hate being a newbie. Most companies try to make their games fun:)

Still… after 60 levels of EQ (talk about Hell) I can’t imagine starting over with precisely nada. In fact I refuse to accept it and instead choose to continue life without MMORPGs… prays that he has the conviction to hold that up
