Well, to be fair, cephalopods don’t actually have any feces to smear. They produce nitrogenous waste via paired nephridia. The result comes out their syphon, and is sometimes colloquially called a “poop noodle”.

I’m one of the rare liberals on the board who was sorry to see Shodan go. I didn’t agree with his politics, and he certainly could be an asshole at times; but I never thought of him as a troll. That’s because he wasn’t just about arguing and needling the libs; he would also post in Cafe Society and other fora. He had interests beyond politics that he liked to discuss. In other words, he wasn’t a one-trick pony; he contributed more to the board than just vitriol.
Octopus, on the other hand; does he post anywhere other than the Pit? Does he ever talk about his favorite video games in GR, or the most interesting car he saw today in MPSIMP? So far as I can tell, his only reason for being here is to throw around words like “hive mind” and “wokeism”. It’s like the only thing he knows how to use is his poop noodle.
Also on board with sorrow that Shodan couldn’t stay within the rules.
Clothahump also, but he had issues for sure, but I enjoyed his posting in Café. Probably helps I was a big fan for the Spellsinger series.
I’ve seen Octopus outside of the Pit and Politics and he wasn’t bad at all. I’m not sure the last time I saw him outside of those. But he stays within the rules mostly. He did manage to piss me off one day, but that was all in the Pit, poster to poster.
I thought he considered the Pit too pottymouthed, though. 
Not many of those around. But I was doubly annoyed with Clothahump for sullying the name and my memories of the series any time I read one of his posts.
If only he had avoided discussing politics down here in the Pit…
That would be their analogue to urine, not to feces. They must surely also have some fraction of their food that they’re not able to completely digest, and which they must therefore expel.

He’s not all bad.
I’ve seen him post a few times of late and thought that he’s mellowed a bit. So I just clicked and scanned back some posts, and while he still occasionally goes on a mindless posting spree, the signal to noise ratio does seem to be better, albeit from a very low bar. It’s been quite a while since he started a brouhaha in ATMB.
I want to point out that even when he’s not shrieking at us, Octopus has STILL made himself the center of this thread, AGAIN. The Monocled One is practically a genius at this.
Still, I can see him as the local team/school mascot in a threadbare and cheesy outfit, that everyone is embarrassed by, but still considers part of the ‘team’. Even if no one wants to hang out with them under any other circumstances.
That isn’t fair when posters called him out. He didn’t jump in to the thread to make himself the center of attention this time.
To get called out and then have posters complain he responded is silly.
It is fair as an observation that he’s a genius at this, in that he gets rent free space in people’s minds even when he doesn’t jump in to a thread to make himself the center of attention.
Yes, but what is much more silly is the assertion that that’s how it played out.

Absolutely His Pinkness had the right to respond to the swipe in the thread, but as it often the case, he dropped off a few pithy comments and we spend 20+ talking about him. He is under our skin, and I think it makes him happy that he cannot be ignored.
That is fair and probably true.
Octo has gotten better. He admits his errors, which is what we just ultimately ask of each other.
You people are all insane. I’d gladly take 10 octopuses over one Shodan. And octopus is a terrible poster.
