Over the years, I’ve known people that love to brain fuck others for sport. It’s similar to being a shock jock. They say outrageous shit, and then sit back and enjoy everyone’s reaction.
Truth is not what they seek, it’s the shit show that they’re in it for.
The internet gives these creatures a platform to entertain themselves with their twisted agenda. They’ll keep it up as long as they get their endorphin fix.
They have no wisdom to offer you.

Posting this is like posting in a thread about rainfall in different areas and saying, “Over the years, I’ve known water vapor that condenses and precipitates onto the ground. This forum has a hint of smugness and superiority that’s hard to adjust to.
It’s unsurprising that it’s a forum in decline.

Nyah, all these types of forums are dying. Reddit and Discord have kind of replaced these kind of forums. And of course, for short form there’s (ugh) Twitter and places that may replace it like Substack and Mastadon.
Well, it is largely a selection of people who found the site through being fans of a newspaper column/series of books delivered in a smug, superior (and sarcastic) voice. It has exactly the kind of posters you should really expect.
I haunt a lot of forums. The Straight Dope is the only one that I am a member of. I joined because I think it has a lot to offer. For instance, there are international folks, professionals in medicine, science, law etc. as active members. I value their opinion on a variety of subjects.
But I get a smugness vibe here. I don’t put most shit posters in any box of credibility because imo they’re desperately trying to elevate their creds by cutting others down. Neither does pretty sentence structure define a person’s worth to me.
If we were standing next to each other and you gave me the same response I would be done with you. Life is too short to spend it with shitheads.
I get it mostly from people smugly complaining about smugness and saying that we are, and ought to be, in decline.
