Then I’ll apologize both for using an unfamiliar acronym and for reacting with hostility to the admonishment about it.
And I’ll give a little essay, for anyone who cares.
First of all, I do live in a world of dogs, and between employees, clients, rescues I work with, and most of my acquaintances, if you asked them if they knew what BSL meant, half would say yes, and the other half would give you a lecture on it. Further, there have been a number of pitbull threads on this board, so I did think that it would be a term that was not that unfamiliar to most. So in that aspect, I did misjudge and make a mistake.
Now, I struggled for a moment to describe those being trolled in that thread, and my first instinct was “people who do not believe that pitbulls are killing machines, not born but brought forth into the world from the pits of the abyss, spawned from the viles seed of the dark lord himself”, but I thought that “those against stupid BSL laws” would be more understandable, I was wrong on that and should have gone with my first instinct.
As a couple follow-ups: Honestly, if someone didn’t know what BSL meant, then the words “Breed specific legislation” wouldn’t have been any more informative. Also, I am one of those who don’t get upset about seeing new terms or acronyms. I love to learn, and in most of my favorite fields, I really cannot learn any more without going back to school or at least committing to extensive study, so when I see the low hanging fruit of being able to learn something new by the simple expedient of copying an unfamiliar term into google, I get quite excited.So, unless a term is so obscure that it exists only “in the bottom of a locked filing cabinet stuck in a disused lavatory with a sign on the door saying ‘Beware of the Leopard.””*, I personally find no problem with it. I acknowledge that I may be unique in that aspect.

I really hope you were trying to woosh me here, because otherwise, WOOOOOSH. Of course I know that QFT means Quantum Field Theory.
I was just looking for an acronym to make a sarcastic comment about, and I’ve always thought that the phonetic pronunciation of QFT sounded like someone spitting out something disgusting, and I wanted to leave that mental image in people’s heads.

Now that the UAH*** is over, back to the original point that I was making. Jasmine trolled the fuck out of the board with that thread. As I predicted, those who do not believe that pitbulls are killing machines, not born but brought forth into the world from the pits of the abyss, spawned from the vile seed of the dark lord himself (WDNBTPAKMNBBBFITWFTPOTASFTVSOTDLH), all came out to make the thread a pitbull thread, happily greeted by those who do believe in the inherent demonic nature of the breed.
If I made a thread telling a story about the time I was attacked by someone with a machine gun, I’d be rightly modded for trolling the gun enthusiasts of the board to come out and “correct” my terminology. Between the fact that that poster has been involved in pitbull hate threads in the past, and the fact that the story as presented has a bunch of holes and contradictions in it, I think that they knew exactly what they were doing.
