I’m thinking a return troll isn’t out of the question. Come back in 30 days after the “sentence” is served, tell us all about how hard it was or how helpful it was or how surprising it was or how mean all y’all are for making fun of “her.” Whatever it thinks will generate the most replies. Trolls don’t have to be first-order rage-inducers. It’s enough that they upon up an exchange of fire between dueling reply posters, as this one has clearly done. I mean, shit, it managed to get three posters mod-noted, and has provoked all kinds of discussion in this thread. Exactly. The reason they “found” this site is that they’ve been here for years under other names. Hence why this teenager finding the SDMB out of nowhere and using it as her place to seek guidance is so ridiculously improbable, yet it’s not weird at all if this is a person who has been here for a while and is just making up shit with a new sock.

The idea that someone is getting 30 days in juvie for texting while driving is ludicrous (edit: talking about cases where there’s no collision or injury). Maybe it happens and I’m completely wrong, but I don’t think it happens.
How about preventing collisions and injury by stopping that texting while driving shit? That applies to so-called adults also.
We’re way too lenient on deliberately dangerous driving.
I’ll make no argument for against the wisdom of doing it. I’m saying it doesn’t happen–or at the very least I’ve never heard of it happening and am skeptical that it ever happens.
I’m betting that the odds are high the troll behind this is loving the time being wasted on it’s little passion play.

Oops, you’re totally right. That makes it slightly more believable. But I’m still skeptical for all the other reasons.
As you should be. I would say 96% likely it is all made up and I think I am being generous going that low.
Judges (in my geographically limited experience) are loathe to send kids to jail if they can help it. Even 30 days is enough to risk a student’s entire academic trajectory. Even a week means getting withdrawn from your school and enrolled in a DJJ academic program, which is, uh, not ideal.
Probation, fines, restitution, community service, weekend and after school programs. Judges have a great many tools at their disposal to keep children out of jail, and they use them.
First offenders? You have to do something real real bad to get sent to jail, do not pass go, do not collect 200 dollars.
Do any of them involve mandating that they post on a relatively obscure aging online message board?
