The hyper-combatative post about the Smiths directed at another poster tells a different story. It’s the same kind of pointed dickishness as noted XKCD fan ColdBrew50. Very similar tone.

I find the new prospect, perhaps, excessively combative. It does border on dickishness, but as I remind myself daily, there are huge swathes of the internet where being extreme rather than measured is seen as a pro, rather than a con, as it gets you precious attention, whether it be thumbs up or down.
It doesn’t impress me at all, but I’m probably not the target audience. I will give them the most minor benefit of the doubt in that at least they were posting a negative opinion about the group in question in a thread that was created about negative impressions of the group.
If they had done what some trolls in the past have done, and jumped into/rezzed a zombie Pro-(whatever) Subject thread to threadshit, I’d be much more likely to say 100% troll.
Perhaps irrelevant, but weren’t all the songs from Guardians of the Galaxy were from that mixtape, which predates the formation of Florence and the Machine?
Where they’re trying to make much of another thread where people are discussing inside v outside ticket scales at a theater as an example of “extreme polarization”. And they keep trying to tie to back to Obama’s birth certificate.
I mean, no, there isn’t a centrist Position on proper locations, and the repeated and utterly out-of-nowhere comparison and equivalence to the two scenarios makes no damn sense. And they keep talking up their “centrist” philosophy as if it makes sense.
They’re a this month join, but with lots of read time. I’m not great at this, but if I had to guess, sounds like a former, banned poster that can’t let this place go. Don’t know if they’re waiting for a gotcha, or if they’re just trying to rehab…
But considering their first post was a new thread about creating a new tabaco company using organic materials with all evidence of being fully familiar with our systems, and have created 4 threads in a week…
Sent - again, to be clear, I don’t think anything rises to the level of obvious trolling yet, but the charged choice, the strange equivalence, and the rest of the patterns strike me as distinctly non-kosher.
But I’ve been wrong before, and thus I share the poster that others may judge as well!
He seemed kinda hinky to me in a thread I was reading yesterday (can’t remember which one), but there was nothing specific enough to report. But I’m keeping an eye on him.
Anybody with half a brain requires too much effort.
The rubes, on the other hand, hardly require much effort at all.
It’s so much more cost effective to pay for a bunch of shitty trolls to firehose quantity over quality.
If you feel you must get somebody good at it, you only get one (or a few at most) and trot them out on a friendly TV network instead and have the cheap trolls extol their virtues online. Some of the true believers will even do that part for free.
