Trolls R Us Resurrections

Starting to get a bit of a trocky vibe from a new poster, Humans. Joined 15 hours ago, has already created three topics and made 24 posts (half of them in the breaking-news thread about the crash of the Iranian helicopter).

Co-signed.

Possibly a troll brain transplanted into a sock body.

Frankentrock?

Trollenstein?

Victor von Trocken-shteen?

I’m going to figure out wordplay one of these days.

Thirded.

Make that fourthed.

I had half a mind to mention them in this thread myself but then thought maybe I was being too quick to judge. Oh well.

Fifthed and Sixthed I believe, but so far, we’re just watching.

They come across, to me, as instantly very comfy in their interactions here. It’s entirely possible that that’s just how they are, but given the recent rash of trocks, they set off the alarm bell.

Seventhed, is it?

In particular because of the nature of the posts about the helicopter crash. I haven’t, at least so far, noticed the others.

I think a preemptive suspension might get to the bottom of this. If they come back after the suspension, they’re a sock. If they don’t… they’re a well-disciplined sock (which is to say, they came back as “someone else”). But if they reallllllly don’t come back, then we can be confident they were a genuine new poster.

What an interesting policy. I like the cut of your jib.

It kinda sounds like you’re in favor of a new slogan for the board: We Don’t Make Humans Feel Welcome.

Human beings are fine.

Trolls gleefully go out of their way to disqualify themselves from that categorization

I’m not seeing much trolling there, but could very well be a sock prancing all over the board celebrating their rebirth. Thee’s something just a little off about their queries and posts. In the “how old are you” poll they predict that members here will tend to skew older. How would someone who’s been here less than a day predict that?

We are all still message board users?

Well, that’s a valid point, I guess, although the last time I checked, real old-timers were still on Usenet. Seriously, but that was probably more than a decade ago. I guess I’ve just been using the messsage board medium for so long that it just seems natural. For various reasons I have such a total aversion to Xitter and FB that I’ve never used them and never will, and it has nothing to do with my age.

Conversely I know of at least one message board that does NOT skew older, but admittedly it’s a specialty board that spun off some general discussion threads just as a sideline, which subsequently became quite popular.

Including a poll. Hell, I’ve never created a poll.

Have you ever created a poll?

  • Yes, of course
  • No, but I know how to
  • No, and I don’t know how to
  • Wait - we can make polls?
  • Pie

you really need to include “other”

I thought ducking stools were used to detect witches, not trolls.

Voted “yes”; but it isn’t really “of course”. It took me several years to get around to it.

ETA: I was also thinking of the ducking stool analogy!
