And, thread closed.

No, thank you for the run down. I’d have been happy with just the name.
On that note, I’m almost glad goodkitty was mistakenly summoned to the thread because, there again, I’d have had no fucking clue who this was supposed to be in reference to:
Looks like goodkitty just now started a thread and – in an instant – What_Exit finished it.

They must have got bored, pure trock thread.
Was already in modloop.
Reading it, they were one of those sorts who picks fights with the moderators; they seldom last long.
Yeah. After they got moderated the other day, they started the ATMB thread, in which their first post sounded like they might have been looking for guidance on “how to not be seen as a jerk.” Nope, they just wanted to complain about double standards, and continue to argue with everyone else.
We almost dumped them a few days ago, but decided to wait a hair longer. Today was the hair.
So…goodkitty was shedding.
I hate that.
Bad kitty!
Just going to mention Horrorfan for watching.
Nothing overt in the few of their posts I’ve seen, but they meet our returning poster patterns.
I mean per their profile, they’re a 20-something posting on an old fashioned message board with a ton of confidence although they just joined 2/4 days ago (summary info is inconsistent).
But I am not at this time making any accusations, because compared to MOST of the people who fit the pattern, they read quite a lot - 6 hours in 4 days, over a thousand posts so far. Not that some of our more obsessive repeats don’t do the same. So it’s an honest suggestion that we all watch, and hope that it’s a false positive.
This strikes me as really weird gatekeeping and misguided. You are singling out a new poster who has not done anything and seems totally innocuous as a possible troll just because they are in their 20s?
You say you aren’t making any accusations, yet your entire post is nothing but an accusation otherwise why post it?
Way to make this board welcoming for new people.
Hey, what’s the downside (for the whistle-blower, I mean)? If this poster blows up, they get the credit of having fingered them really early on – win! And if the poster turns out to be a regular poster, no-one will remember this.
Okay, let’s take a look at this.
- I’m posting in THE PIT, and even more specifically, the Trolls thread. I don’t think any of us should have an expectation of being 100% fair, and certainly I wouldn’t consider most of us in this particular thread to be lily-white. We’re generally more the anti-hero sort!
- One of the reasons to post here per the mods that watch this thread, is that sometimes we see patterns that they don’t, because, duh, they’re dealing with countless flags and fights between well established posters that are getting angry with each other. Thus, mentioning that someone does fit those patterns is useful although, again, not fair.
- As mentioned in this and the prior iterations of the thread, we tend to have periodic storms of Trocks/Socks where there will be a statistically large grouping of them all occurring over a short period (roughly) of time. We’ve just had such an event, so right now, I think it’s reasonable to be a little extra careful.
- “Way to make this board welcoming for new people.” - Have you been reading this thread, and the board in general? I mean… really.
- I -repeatedly- mentioned that what I was concerned about is how they matched a pattern, and I think it’s reasonable safe to say we’ve had a LOT more trolls/trocks come in than any legitimate new poster in the last year or two. I also pointed out where they DIDN’T match the pattern (long reading times) and that NONE of the posts I’ve seen gave me actual concern. Nor did I ask anyone to pile insults on them, I just suggest we watch them to see if that changed and I quote:
So, in the fine tradition of the Pit, @Eyebrows_0f_Doom
Shrug, I might remember them as being weird enough to not only look up the profile of a new poster who hasn’t actually done anything but to dissect the number of hours and posts they’ve looked at in order to try to find a pattern. And then post their negative results AND suggest we all keep an eye on them anyway.
I used to welcome all new posters. In my little way of keeping this board active and diverse. I don’t think I helped much. But, you know, I thought I’d try.
I don’t do it anymore for fear it’s a troll.
Thanks, Dopers for making me the wary, suspicious person I never was before.
Yeah, thanks alot.
(P.S. yeah being called a troll the first weeks you’re here feels very unwelcoming, I promise)
Welcome to the internet. And the world at large…
I know.
I’m so sorry I’m nice.
This development has little, if not nothing, to do with the SDMB. If fact, the SDMB is behind the times when it comes to recognizing the existence of trolls, political and otherwise.
