Ah, at first I thought that was our famous @tomh4040, but it’s a different Tom. We’ve had a number of distinguished posters on this board who have discovered fundamental flaws in our theories of physics and have not been shy about exposing them.
I think tomh4040 is probably the only one I’ve really engaged with. He has a starring role in this thread, where he proves – in Factual Questions, no less – that you absolutely can travel faster than light, no problem. Einstein was just confused and relied too much on math instead of the kind of astute logic that Tom was capable of. The reason I bring this up is that this particular Tom earned a unique distinction: probably the only poster who has actually drawn a topic ban against ever discussing the speed of light or relativity on this board again!

Not posting for two days does not mean someone has left the forum permanently. Especially if they presumably have more important things to do than spend significant time on a messaging board. Not saying he’ll be back, just that’s it a bit too soon to mourn the loss.
I agree that this is not a valid assumption to make, either. I just wanted to forestall any additional blame if he didn’t come back. Or if he just becomes a sporadic poster.
There’s nothing wrong with asking a public figure to authenticate their ID when posting publicly as themselves. It’s expected. Every celeb doing an AMA on Reddit provides their bona fides first (an AMA-type thread here with NDT would be pretty cool, come to think it. Set it up, mods.) If NDT was interested in posting here regularly, I’m sure he wouldn’t mind. He probably took a good look around and ran for the hills, though.
I think anyone using a proper name here should have to verify their ID. Using handles like ‘Barack Obama’ shouldn’t be allowed. Character names like ‘Omar Little’ or ‘Princess Leia’ are harmless, but whenever your using the name of an actual person, there’s the potential for fuckery.

Yep. And it was a bit amusing watching the little “replying” indicator with his avatar next to it. Took a full two minutes for him to figure out that one cannot reply to a moderator’s post that one’s account has been locked.
