Trolls R Us Resurrections

Special Education should not be publicly funded

I think this is the right place for this. The OP of this thread: https://boards .straightdope.com/t/special-education-should-not-be-publicly-funded/1026450 cannot be anything but a troll. In short, they believe the government needs to stop spending money, and they mean any money at all, on special educaiton because those individuals in need of special education not only do not, but will not and cannot contribute to society.

I flagged it. Quite likely, I’m not the only one who did/does

I disagree with their view vehemently, but it’s a topic that could be discussed. It’s not trolling on the face.

However, I’m not going to discuss it with some obvious returning sock.

I think they are not only trolling, but perhaps specifically trolling me. Maybe I’m just paranoid.

Anyway it’s both unoriginal and uninspired if it’s trolling. In the state of Michigan they are trying to pass a bill making it so people without kids in public school don’t have to pay taxes for school. We are surrounded by sociopaths and narcissists, and it’s totally unremarkable. (Whether kids with more severe disabilities should be integrated into mainstream classrooms as they currently are is a separate issue, and one I don’t particularly feel qualified to discuss, given I can’t even figure out what the fuck is going on in my son’s classroom.)

I agree. Very likely a trock. And yet attracting responses from legitimate posters, as these fuckers always do.

I’ve got nothing to contribute to that thread, but I do want to thank those who managed to make it through the OP’s wall-o-text and figure out what it said.

Nor should you - the people who have responded should be given a week’s suspension to reflect on their inability to spot an obvious troll. “truthuwontsay”? Soooo edgy.

On one hand, I understand the DNFTT (Do Not Feed The Troll) ethos.

But on the other hand …

If it’s a troll/sock/trock, then the SDMB Delta Force will dispatch them with great haste and alacrity.

And if they turn out not to be a troll, then a conversation has ensued.

I’ve said it before: I think we should have a very low tolerance for false positives in this regard.

I broke the link in Monty’s post, as it was breaking the “no back link” rule and inadvertently accusing a poster of trolling outside of the Pit.

No warning issued.

That was however a bracing blast of raw selfishness unleavened by any logic. So nice to see the rest of the internet occasionally stop by our civilized nook and drop a smelly turd in our otherwise pristine punchbowl.

I’m my son’s school, kids with more severe disabilities have their own classrooms, so his claims that they are sitting in the same testing room aren’t even based on reality as far as I can tell.

I could almost agree with that, but they are also being very selective in who they are responding to, and ignoring a lot of questions that have asked for clarification of their position. No way is the OP sincere.

It’s locked. Thank goodness.

I predict this one will not last long, but please don’t let them troll you.

@Beckdawrek, only for 10 minutes.

I won’t post there. Thanks for the heads up.

To clarify, I don’t think the topic is necessarily trolling. I agree the poster is probably trolling and is certainly not a first timer.

In the 6th grade my best friend at school was a special needs kid named Gordon. I only saw him at recess, because even though we were in the same school, we didn’t have any classes together. Special Education had its own rooms.

These kids have needs and education labeled as “special” for a reason. They need a different curriculum and different approach than other kids. They aren’t all in the same room. The troll in the other thread was literally making shit up.

(I sure am glad that Gordon and I were in the same school though, or we would never have met.)

Honestly, I think the troll was just advocating for eugenics in a way that wasn’t so obvious as to be immediately cornfielded.

That’s exactly what my husband said, actually. He’s eugenecist. Probably has a lot of opinions about The Bell Curve too.

And yeah my grandma was a special education teacher. She helped a lot of kids get the best education they could get at the time.
