I can only see the replies but it sounds like SeñorBurro is doing his best to derail the latest gun control thread with a bunch of whataboutism.
The Gun thread was derailed almost immediately with the automobile whataboutism. By the time it was brought to the mods attention, it was far too late to fix the thread. So for those that love arguing about guns, it is a thread for arguing about guns.
If someone brings up cars in a gun thread there should be an obligation to retreat and call the mods. It is not a defense to stand your ground in the thread and argue back. If it’s your own thread, maybe the castle doctrine applies, though.
His basic premise is that we are all complicit for every death caused by everything, but only gun-rights folks have the moral integrity to admit that they’re willing to trade innocent lives for gun rights.
Never bring a car to a gunfight.
Or you could close it, because omnibus threads are against the rules.

Or not close it because that’s the point - if every thread even tangentially related to guns is closed, the trolls have succeeded in their trollery

This is… one way to handle that thread.
But since it’s how EVERY gun control thread is handled, i doubt it is worth the effort of an ATMB thread.
Thanks for confirming I was wasting my time reporting posts in that thread though, I won’t waste my time or yours in the future.
It is not an omnibus thread at this point.
Also I have a very low amount of give a shit about gun threads and tend to think that many on both sides argue disingenuously and love to cherry pick, strawman, what-about and etc. I’ve moderated a few very tightly and must have succeeded as some posters on both sides were upset by the moderation.
No one is covering new ground and I’m close to adding it to the list of tired debates if the rest of the staff agrees. But I’m not doing any of this at this time. Just letting you know that gun debate is very tiresome.
We’re getting pretty far afield (as usual when the trolls aren’t entertaining) but there are a few threads on guns that are interesting and useful, I’ve been in a few (even created one!).
Having said that, some people, and it’s often the same people on both sides are bound and determined to drag what is sometimes a narrowly defined discussion to such a general level that it inevitably becomes mired in the same tired ruts.
I don’t think it’s quite at the level of the tired debates, but OPs on both sides of the debate would be much better off to write tight, narrow focused OPs to discuss single issues and for all of us to flag 'em when they go off topic.
How to do that w/out junior modding when people’s dander gets up though . . . it’s so much easier to jump in rather than flag and wait, especially when someone else already has on either side of the issue.
