Well, yes, generally people don’t tend to question positions with which they agree, because they presumably already understand the underlying logical processes by which the position was arrived at. This board does slant strongly to the anti-war side, so expressions of opposition to the war do not get challenged.
Now, a pro-war position, being a minority opinion here, will get questioned. And, yes, there’s a sizable contingent of leftists here who will automatically attack that position, instead of debate against it. There is also a sizable contingent of leftists on here who are more than happy to debate that position, as that is precisely what drew them to this board in the first place: the opportunity to debate. In the threads that led up to this pitting, you’ve encountered both types of posters in equal measure. However, you seem unable or unwilling to make any distinction between the two camps, reacting to both reasoned debate and unreasoned hostility as if they were the same thing. This is not, unfortunetly, a particularly new phenomenon to us. You’ve talked about giving this place a “kick” by arguing a conservative viewpoint, but you haven’t done that at all. You haven’t given us a reasoned defence of your politics, you’ve just stated your position, and told everyone who disagrees with you to suck it. Which is a shame, because this board desperatly needs more conservative voices. If you were willing to be such a voice, you could indeed give this place a kick it sorely needs, but that’s not what you’re doing. Instead, you’re playing directly into the stereotypes of conservatives put forward by the worst elements of this board’s left wing.
