SYDNEY, Australia (AP) – A Swedish man tried to smuggle eight dangerous snakes into Australia by strapping them to his legs, customs officials said Wednesday. Justice Minister Chris Ellison said 28-year-old Per Johann Adolfsson arrived at Sydney airport from Thailand on Monday night. He was searched by customs officers who discovered the reptiles in packages strapped to his calves. The snakes included four deadly King Cobras and four non-venomous emerald tree boas. Ellison said the man has been charged with illegally importing animals and was refused bail during an appearance at Sydney’s Waverley Local Court on Tuesday. He faces a maximum penalty of 10 years imprisonment, a fine of $110,000 Australian (US$73,000), or both.
I read where a guy tried to smuggle snakes and some rare, endangered sea gulls. One sea gull got away, and a snake chased it.
Your basic story of boa meets gull, boa loses gull, boa gets gull back.
BOOOO!
This was anti-climactic.
I agree with rayn. I was expecting something much funnier (for me, not the snake guy) than a fine.
Scotcho
[starts slipping off trenchcoat]
Mine’s a little over seve. . . .Oh! Real snakes? Ummm. . . .nevermind. . . .I was just. . . .
[puts coat back on and runs out of the room]
You know, sometimes you say something and just really start to regret it a few minutes later. . .
:smack:
And this too, shall pass.
The officers were probably alerted by the panicked mooing sound.
I wonder how expensive his car is.
I was sure I read something about this, in this forum, just yesterday …
Yup. I did. Australia foils trouser snake smuggler!
There was a story on the Darwin Awards about a guy who tried to smuggle two live lobsters out of a grocery store by stuffing them into the pockets of his khakis…
Unfortunately the lobsters did not have rubber bands on their claws and he was quickly captured after a lobster grabbed onto him…in…that…way…ouch.
Crustacean vasectomy anyone?
