True Blood: "She's Not There" (open spoilers)

Ditto on that fairyland chase scene reminding me of a Star Trek episode!

Was the woman who went to see Bill one of the women from the coven?

Will Gary Cole be back? He’s too big an actor to be a one-off. Hell, he’s had two series of his own – American Gothic and that one where he had a radio show.

I rather liked it, especially Jason not being such a dummy, and I liked Bill’s new look too. I wish Chris Bauer had a better part to play though. It’s quite a step down from Frank Sobotka (season two of The Wire).

I was amused by how annoyed the sheriff was at missing out on that award because of Sookie’s disappearance. (You owe me a plaque!)

Anyone care to answer a question about last season? I just got HBO, so just caught up with the last season in perfect time to watch the new season.

What’s up with the timing on Arlene’s baby? Wasn’t Renee dead at the beginning of Season 1? So all of Season 2 goes by… then somewhere in Season 3 she shows up pregnant with Renee’s kid but Renee hasn’t been around for several months if not a year or more.

Or are we supposed to assume all of Season 2 happened in like 2 months?

I’m more amused that the idea that Bon Temps, crime capital of the world with murders and death cults and all sorts of supernatural mayhem, would win some sort of public safety award.

Asked. (at the end of that post)
And sort of answered last year.

If you have HBO GO you can watch the next episode now. The first episode was slow, but that can be forgiven since it’s setting the stage for the new season.

I can’t figure out how Tommy and Hoyt’s mom got involved with each other.

Arlene’s reactions to the Mikey have been pretty funny.

I wonder also if anyone in that town notices there’s a herd of horses galloping through the countryside every night, lol! Sheriff is edgy because he’s run out of ‘V’.

Would Arlene’s babby be strong enough to pull the heads off all those dolls? He looks too young, but maybe he’s super strong because of his evil real daddy.

Remind me; the baby’s real daddy, Rene. Was he just human-level evil, or was he some sort of supernatural creature?

Nothing supernatural, at least not that was implied. IIRC he went nuts when his sister was killed by a vampire and started killing fangbangers.

I think I respectfully disagree. The finale of the last season shows Bill and Sophie Anne about to embark on a fight to the death. Since Bill is now “King”, this implies he won. I assume that’s how you become King or Queen in the Vampire world. Sophie Anne was Queen of Louisiana, making Bill King of same.

On the other hand, I’m getting the books and the TV show confused in my head.
Were Russell and Sophie Anne married in the TV series?

If that’s true, Bill could be King of both Louisiana and Mississippi.
J.

I thought the mansion shown in the episode resembled the one that Russell lived in more than it did the one that Sophie-Anne lived in. But the AV Club episode write-up agrees with you; that he is apparently now king of Louisiana (which was her title, while Russell was king of Mississippi).

I thought he went nuts when his sister became a fangbanger and she was the first one he killed. Am I misremembering?

Correct. Rene killed his sister once he found out. I don’t think we ever learned why he had such a hatred for vampires in the first place.

I think that’s right. If Bill took Russell’s place as King of Mississippi (but not Louisiana), he wouldn’t have authority to order Eric around.

Apparently with Sookie gone for a year, the place isn’t all that bad.

Speaking of, Sookie is seriously the dumbest person ever. She is painfully, aggressively stupid. She goes to fairyland, learns that her grandfather has been there for 20 years by her reckoning but only a few hours by his. She puts it together than time moves differently.

Then she goes home after an hour or so in fairyland…and is confused about why her house is different! But then, when they did the “reveal” that she’d been gone for over a year, the music got all “dun-dun-DUN!!!” so maybe the writers thought that we, the audience, were also too stupid to put that together?

Well, in fairness, my first guess as to what was going on was that lightfruits basically put you in a coma, so her granddad thought only a few hours had passed because he’d been high for 20 years, basically. But yeah, it certainly wasn’t a shock to me when it was revealed…
Not sure what I thought of the episode as a whole, it was obviously setting things up. Some storylines seem interesting, some not so much, certainly not about to stop watching or anything. But it’s no Game of Thrones.

Can someone remind me about this? Is it something he got last season or is it something he always had but didn’t realise?

He’s always had it, but it’s more than just his looks and bod that drives women- even those who realize what a dumbass he is- nuts with desire. Fairies- in this telling- are very sexual beings.

Except perhaps for Fairy Godmother Lloyd.

The mansion used for the exterior is Longwood, a famous octagonal mansion in Natchez and is definitely Russell’s digs. The mansion used for the exterior Sophie’s palace is actually in Malibu and can be yours for only $35 million.

So Mississippi and Louisiana united when Sophie wed Russell. I would guess they went back to independent kingdoms when Russell disappeared, but vampires may make their own rules. (I wonder how vampire royalty handles the issues of succession since surely it has come up a few times.)

Well, perhaps that’s a reason to write off Sophie-Anne as a character; that the home in which she lives is no longer available for location shoots.

Uh…what about playing evil incarnate? He was the supernatural bad guy on American Gothic.

I was a little disappointed by this episode. One whole episode already, and no

mostly naked Eric getting rescued by Sookie. We know from Eric’s “waiting sucks” promo it happens, but when??

It was nice to see Sookie’s eyebrows back. They were missed last season.

jharvey963, in the books wasn’t it that

Russell got married to another king in book five and never Sophie Anne?
