Confining the speakers to their podiums is essential. The way trump was allowed to stand behind Hillary at that debate was unconscionable.
Yeah watching the debate, that was obviously the way they were going to spin it. Trump conflicted with the moderators, Harris didn’t so they must have been in collusion with her.
I think this is how Republicans are going to spin this loss. You cited Fox News; and right now Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) is on CNN saying essentially the same thing: the moderators were biased; they fact-checked Trump more than Harris, and so on. (Also, something about “sleeper cells” of illegals/criminals in the US.) Anyway, I’m sure we’ll see other RW sources spouting the same “ABC’s mods were biased” stuff later tonight or tomorrow.
trump pass up a chance to blather? Never.
Here what she should have said- you just asked me three rather complex policy questions, i dont think i will have the time to answer them in this forum. I would have picked gun buy back- “whats wrong with a totally voluntary gun back back, and getting a few guns off the street? The reason why I have dropped it, is that you know the current Congress wont give me the funding needed for a voluntary buy back.” It was unfair to hit Harris with a triple question when she had limited time to answer.
Yay.
Oh god, the huge smile when they cut to him, he was so damn happy.
I was wondering what drugs they had him on- Adderall? He didnt blather pointlessly as much as he usually does. Until later, anyway.
Of the dozen plus pundits, only one said trump won. A couple did say tie.
Well- “after birth abortions?” “Illegals eating peoples pets”?
I mean, those werent just false, those were pants on fire lies. They had to fact check him there.
CNN is reporting that Trump spoke for 42:52 and Harris 37:36, in case anyone was wondering.
Kamala getting all up into his personal space for a handshake was a nice reversal though. And of course when Trump tried the “I’m speaking” bit on her, he had to oversell it by saying “see what I did there?!?”
Well, I guess he hasn’t checked that Taylor Swift poll, which currently shows 3.496 million likes. (I know not every like on Instagram translates directly to electoral support for Kamala Harris in the US but Trump is the one who is always going on about how the ultimate metric of his superiority is crowd size so…)
Yeah, I don’t know why no one has pointed out the obvious which is that Kamala didn’t need to be fact checked because she wasn’t up there telling a bunch of lies! Trump was the only one playing stupid games hence he alone won all the stupid prizes. “She didn’t get fact checked!” is not the flex his supporters think it is.
I haven’t read any posts in this thread.
Harris did as well as I expected. She looked confident and made her points.
Trump lied with every ramble. He looked squinty and unfocused.
The moderation managed to fact-check a few lies. But they also allowed Trump to have the last word on almost every topic. Perfect example of pushy old man bullying.
I only watched the first half and thought Kamala kicked ass but was disappointed that Trump seemed to be having a relatively coherent night by his own standards.
Relatively…I did not have “she wants to give transgender surgeries to illegal aliens in prison” on my bingo card.
Only if Hannity, Watters, and Ingraham moderate. They are the only ones who know aren’t afraid to tell the truth.
So he got 5+ extra minutes of airtime/facetime than she did. And they allowed it.
I saw an after-the-fact fact checker on CNN. He scored it 33+:1+. They did show the one explicit lie that he attributed to Harris.
When the last word is “covfefe” I’m not particularly upset.
I am going to bet Harris gets some half true and “needs more info” type ratings. But no pants on fire liar ratings.
such as "Harris said “we have created over 800,000 new manufacturing jobs. “
This figure is close, but it comes with caveats."
But trump got a lot of “False” ratings. Harris has none so far.
Only 33? Wow. They must’ve slept through half of it.
CNN’s fact checks on tonight’s debate:
It seemed a deliberate strategy. There were several questions she didn’t use her full allotted time. Succinct and focused vs meandering and incomprehensible. The Harris team is really pushing the contrasts every way they can.
Not everything has a nefarious purpose behind it.
ETA: Part of it seemed to allow the nonverbal reactions as well. While he went on whatever random stream of word salad, the split scream showed her facial reactions the entire time (so by “face time” they both got about the same - the difference is mainly in speaking time). By contrast, his body language was terrible while she was talking. A picture is worth a thousand words and all that.
One thing that really impressed me about Harris is that when Trump was speaking, she looked at him and watched closely and reacted accordingly. He could barely look at her at all. You also saw it in her pursuing him at the start to shake his hand, while he seemed to want to hide behind the safety of his podium, and him walking away at the end without any handshake offer. Non-verbal language is so important. She is a much classier person and he was clearly rattled.
Trump’s extra minutes were almost all following Harris’ responses, when the moderator started to speak, and trump would cut in and start ranting. Instead of stopping him, they continually let him run on. Those were not his allotted time slots.
A friend tells me that on polymarket Trump was up by 6 points before the debate, and now it’s tied.
