Trump and Harris agree to September 10th ABC debate - Watch Along Starts at Post 431

The only known source for the claim about post-birth abortions is a story by Philip K. Dick, “The Pre-Persons,” published in Fantasy and Science Fiction magazine in 1974. This was written when Philip K. Dick was deeply gone in madness. The world is getting just surreal enough that, half a century on, one of PKD’s excursions into madness has made it into a presidential election campaign. It’s no exaggeration to say that this weirdness itself could be a story in Fantasy and Science Fiction magazine.

I don’t normally post from X, but this one made me laugh. It’s from the guy who played Trump in Harris’s debate prep, with his personal follow-up “to do” list:

That’s also a great point. Put the onus on the moderators for why she can’t address in detail each topic. That’s why my response was more generic.

Re claim that she repeated phrases too much:

Politics obsessed people watched the whole debate. Uncertain voters were less likely to do so.

Also, in a lot of households, people at home talked over the TV, casing viewers to miss things.

So I think repeating crucial messages, like the tax breaks, and “we have so much more in common than what separates us,” was important.

Old debunked accusation against hunter Biden.

Trump can only remember the accusations. His usual just say this, no need for truth.

Statement from Fox news analyst:

Statement from CNN analyst:

Just fyi: when there is asymmetrical lying, there will be asymmetrical fact checking.

I saw an article that said it was four, but now I can’t find it. Don’t remember what the fourth was.

“lost by a whisker” was sarcasm.

Ah, yes, that would be the fourth. I recall being disappointed no one tied that back into the cat eating thing.

"For the benefit of Mr. Shite, there will be a show tonight, on ABC

The Democrats will all be there, avoiding Orange Gibbon’s stare, easily."

The sad thing is that the pet-eating thing, which would have torpedoed a candidate ten years ago, will have no negative impacts on MAGA numbers today.

My local television station’s Facebook post had a comment that not only was the pet-eating story true, but that there is a restaurant in Disney that serves human remains as food. She admonished us to “do our research”. So the MAGA crowd was untouched.

Biden: I’m the worst debater in history.
DJT: Hold my beer.

One big thing I think Harris missed as an opportunity was on the sales tax/tariff issue, when Trump basically admitted that yeah, he did that, and was going to do it again, even more. She should have pointed that out, “Mr. Trump just admitted I’m correct, but he doesn’t even realize that because he doesn’t understand what tariffs are, and who ends up paying for them. It isn’t “China”, Mr. Trump, it’s the people in the US trying to buy things for their family.”

Actually, she pretty much did, you must have missed that. It was the second time the tariff thing was brought up.

She did, but in a way that might have gone past many viewers. It could have been punchier. But I’m not going to criticize her. She did remarkable well.

[edit: on second thought, a parody song might not be in the best taste at this time]

I think Harris missed a great “gotcha” opportunity after Trump bragged about how terrified Putin and other strongmen are of him. She should have come back with something along the lines of “It’s curious to me why all of these leaders who are supposedly afraid of you are working so very hard to get you back into the White House.”

Trump’s rant about how Harris was going to give Haitian immigrant prisoners sex change operations and then let them loose to kidnap and eat pets reminded me of an old bit from SNL. Anyone remember the “Talk Back” Buck Henry skit where he played AM talk show host Frank Noland? He starts out wanting to talk about boring stuff like a bond election, but when that doesn’t bring in callers, he gradually gets more extreme. At one point he says:

Fiction becoming reality!

Yeah, she needed to be much more explicit. She mentioned higher prices, but she needed to explicitly point out Trump’s lack of understanding, and that he’d just admitted she was right - he was going to add extra taxes in the form of extra tariffs. That needed to be made clear for the people who don’t understand how tariffs work.

Seems about right:
