Trump approval rating drops to 36 percent

A few highlights from a new Washington Post-ABC News Poll.

[ul]
[li]The president’s overall approval rating has dropped to 36 percent from 42 percent in April[/li][li]His disapproval has risen five points to 58 percent[/li][li]48 percent of Americans say they “disapprove strongly” of Trump’s performance in office, a level never reached by former presidents Bill Clinton and Barack Obama and reached only in the second term of George W. Bush[/li][/ul]

If you break out the approval rating by party affiliation, the results are:

[ul]
[li]Republican, 82%[/li][li]Independent, 32%[/li][li]Democrat, 11%[/li][/ul]

It looks like the biggest drop is in that Independent group, which shows a 6 point drop since April. All groups have dropped, however, even Republican.

There are many other interesting details, including views on Trump’s ability to negotiate, and, of course, Trumpcare.

The sole positive seems to be the economy.

Of note for Democrats, although not surprising, the perception amongst all parties seems to be that the party stands for opposition to Trump rather than for anything.

I found it an interesting read.

The numbers don’t quite add up: if Republicans and Democrats both drop 2% while independents drop 6%, common sense would suggest a total drop of 4% at most–not 6%. Because of rounding?

Because the groups are different size, I would think. When they are added together, the overall average number therefore shifts accordingly.

The sole positive seems to be the economy.

Oh well. If nothing else, Trump’s administration has proven the long held theory that presidents have little to nothing to do with the economy.

I wonder what the 11% of Democrats approve of.
What made Clinton hit 43% approval in June 1993?

I am concerned for my country. The party before country attitude of the Republicans disturbs me greatly. I’ll admit there are Democrats with the same us vs. them attitude, I even know some, but the fact that a whopping 82% of Republicans are supporting the current administration with all of its features and foibles really disappoints me. What happened to my father’s and grandfather’s Republican party?

At 11%, I’d probably think a good portion lied about their political affiliation. Or, at least, they haven’t voted Democrat in a while, even if they still consider themselves Democrats.

Don’t ask, Don’t tell was really unpopular and Waco probably hurt him.

I predict Trump, after pardoning his spawn, quits in a hissy-fit, calls us all “Losers” before year end.

Then Pence pardons him, and gets booted for his trouble.

By the end of 2018, we’ll have a whole new crew of flunkies in office.

I applaud your resilience in continuing to make optimistic predictions.

Yeah I have a few friends like this. Registered dems, union supporters, middle-aged white guys, Trump voters and still ok with their decision.

What’s the halibut positive, then?

And this approval is with Fox News, Sinclair Media and the Enquirer shoveling out pro Trump stories daily. Imagine what it would be without State Sponsored media?

ETA: Thinking Trump will quit is crazy. I’m worried about the day when someone in his gang realizes just how much power he can leverage against his enemies as the POTUS. It seems like they haven’t yet.

Has anything happened to your father and grandfather?

We’re all scrod.

Honest to cod, we’ve been floundering for awhile.

I’m perched on my deck chair hoping this isn’t just another red herring.

Someone pointed this out to me:

This is Rasmussen’s daily approval report. Rasmussen leans conservative so nobody should accuse them of being liberally biased:

Trump’s ‘Strong Approval’ rating starts at the high 30’s, even slipping to 40% a few times. Then is starts to…erode. As of this post it is at 27%.

Meanwhile, Strongly Disapprove starts lower than Strongly Apporve, and then starts to climb until 2 days ago it stands just below 50%.

There’s no one event I can point at to say ‘this is where he lost it’, he’s just done so much bad stuff. I just hope this trend of eroding support continues.

Approval ratings mean next to nothing; I’m not sure what the point is.

The only poll that matters is the one they hold every fourth November.

Also, Clinton had promised a middle class tax cut when he ran, and reneged on it either before or shortly after taking office.
