Trump Ignites Health Concerns With Baffling Medical Rant
The 80-year-old president was golfing on Saturday when he took to Truth Social to brag about having “just” requested another cognitive exam.
It’s a shore thing.
This is pretty much what I was wondering when I first read about this last night. I mean, I could absolutely be mistaken, but I’m pretty sure the Chain of Command doesn’t work that way? There’s no way he can give orders that carry the weight of law after his death, correct?
I can absolutely believe that Trump’s narcissism and hubris is such that he thinks that what he says should still apply even after he’s dead. Certainly Vance has been a mini-me for years now and, theoretically at least, would be interested in shoring up MAGA support after dear leaders passing. But we also know from reporting that Vance was not exactly enthusiastic about support for this Iran diversion? At the very least I think there would be some threads that would need to be untangled in such an event.
And I also think realistically, with everything he has said now the right wing is going to spin any circumstance under which Trump passes as a time for vengeance. Even if he chokes on a Big Mac, the right wing in this country is going to blame Iran for it. And probably the left in general. The likes of Fox News are going to do everything in their power to spread that version of the story.
Um, actually, Vance doesn’t become CIC until he’s sworn in as President. If Trump told Hegseth to bomb the shit out of them, he might order the bombs before JD even has a chance to order.
There’s no way he can give orders that carry the weight of law after his death, correct?
To be fair, orders of a fallen commander stand unless and until countermanded by the successor. So Vance could just say carry on as per previous orders. But you bet a bunch of people at Joint Commands are going to want to hear/read it from him if only for CYA reasons.
There is a bit of debate every time different scenarios are theorized, as to whether the authority of the POTUS vests inherently on the succesor upon vacancy (or at 1200 EST Jan 20), or you absolutely MUST have an attested oath on record. On the one hand it is in the text that you swear in before exercising office; on the other, it’s mighty dodgy to wind up with NO living CinC in a world where the missile warheads are 20 minutes away. But yes, the greater risk here is that Miller, Vought, et al would try to pull a Mitch McConnell on Trump and seek to delay the confirmation of death or of 25th Amendment incapacitation until their contingency plans are in place.
… Even if he chokes on a Big Mac, the right wing in this country is going to blame Iran for it. …
If Napoleon Bonaspurs were to choke on a Big Mac, everyone from the server who put it in front of him to the farmer who planted the seed that grew into the wheat that was made into the bun would get the max DOJ treatment. Not to mention the wrath of Khan MAGA.

There is only one way to know for sure. I’m not usually impatient however this is something I want to know ASAP.
Trump just posted about going to Walter Reed for another physical and another perfect cognitive exam. The physicals are supposed to be six months apart but his last one was in late May.

The 80-year-old president was golfing on Saturday when he took to Truth Social to brag about having “just” requested another cognitive exam.
However, we have to account for the possibility that when Trump says he “just” had one, he’s referring to the one from two months ago. But you’ve got to wonder if someone insisted he get checked after that “Islamic Republic of Japan” oopsie.

That’s my guess. The press corps would have been on top of another motorcade to Walter Reed (and that hasn’t occurred).
That’s a VERY long post, and my guess is that Dan Scavino or WH Communications Director Steven Cheung typed it out on Donald’s instructions. He was ranting about Iran but also very concerned with torpedoing the Maggie Haberman/Jonathan Swan bestseller Regime Change. I suspect he was going on about his wonderful cognitive test and his amanuensis just put down “recent” and “just finished a perfect physical” and left it at that.
When a crowd like that happens, either you’re at a teaching hospital, or you have a really weird case.
Yup. I contracted Lyme disease in the early 1980s when it was newly identified, and on a visit to Mass. General for a checkup a silver-haired senior attending came in to see me trailing a gaggle of other medicos, from fellow2s down to freshly fledged interns.
Pro tip: do NOT contract Lyme disease if you can avoid it, unless you enjoy regarding death as at least a relief from misery.
ETA: Sorry to be so late to the party but I’ve been away from the Dope for several days.
Turns out later, nearly current, studies show the enteric-coated sort are useless for cardiac protection. You need the kind that dissolve in the stomach to do any good.
I’m curious for any pointers to those studies. I’ve not been able to find uncoated 81 mg aspirin and the pharmacists I’ve asked have never heard about this.
I did find this analysis from 2023 that says it doesn’t matter:
https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jamacardiology/fullarticle/2809795
The JAMA study seems to disprove that. And anyway, it doesn’t make sense unless you are trying to take aspirin to break up a blood clot this very instant. Why would it matter whether it enters your blood half an hour after taking it or two hours after taking it? Numbers made up, but the point stands. If you are taking aspirin once a day to inhibit clotting, it seems unlikely to matter exactly what time it’s absorbed.
(I take an aspirin before i take a long flight, and i usually take it the day before, with a meal, because the effect on your platelets is pretty long-lasting.)
The JAMA study seems to disprove that.
Further, the Mayo Clinic link is a blog posting that alludes to a study; not a study itself. Studies can disagree and the JAMA study might be flawed, but there’s no way to tell what the 2018 Mayo Clinic Q&A is even based on.
I should’ve read beyond the abstract of my own link:
The association of enteric-coated aspirin with secondary prevention of cardiovascular disease is controversial. Several studies have proposed that the enteric coating reduces the bioavailability of aspirin due to reduced dissolution and absorption.2,11-14
I’ll have to track down those articles when I’m not on my phone.
Sorry for the disruption. We now return you to your regularly scheduled discussion of Trump dying.
I’ve not been able to find uncoated 81 mg aspirin
I recently went looking since my supply was running out. Chewable baby aspirin is uncoated and 81 mg… it’s also twice as expensive!
