I visit DC often and have been to the Kennedy Center several times. Under normal circumstances it’s approachable but I don’t know what’s in place currently.
Mr. Trump, tear down that tarp!
I’m not convinced that they did anything beyond popping a letter off for a brief moment and taking a picture to suggest the work was being done, then putting it right back on. Otherwise, why so much secrecy? With only the word of some Trump appointed board member to go by, I’ll believe it when I see it.
Maybe they are just rearranging the letters. There are lots of options, but I’m leaning towards PANJANDRUM DDT HOTEL.
I don’t think it’s secrecy. I think the Orange Toddler is throwing a temper tantrum and doesn’t want anyone to see the building with his name removed, and is also holding out hope that some appeals process somehow will allow him to restore the letters. But I think the Trump name really is down (as it is from the website) to avoid a direct confrontation with the courts, but that for the above reasons and just pure spite the tarps will remain up for a while yet.
The problem is, neither of us has any visual evidence whatsoever to back up our claims.
This seems likely to me.
Also Donald’s spite. He wants no photos of the wall (clips or no clips). He hopes that by leaving the tarps up for weeks or months, ‘something’ will happen that will let him take down the tarps to reveal his name. (Never removed OR put back up.)
He is one nasty little brat.
But we have shitloads of previous history involving bullshit and outright lying to base our suppositions on, don’t we?
Indeed, and I’ve not seen, nor read, anything yet that convinces me that those letters have been removed. I think the people that are celebrating this victory are doing so prematurely.
They did testify that the order had been complied with, and you know Trump’s respect for our courts. I wonder if the judge required more than their word.
The cynic in me says that Trump tells the official, “tell the court that it has been removed. If you get in trouble for it, I’ll pardon you.”
I think it was more weasely than that, like they didn’t state directly that the letters had been removed, more like “the order has been complied with”.
I’d like to see the transcript, and look behind that tarp.
I’d like the court to order the tarp taken down to verify that the order was complied with.
They could say that the order requires DJT’s name not to appear on the building and if the tarp is in the way, it does not appear. I would be surprised if the letters were actually removed.
It might also be the case that the letter’s mountings, or damage to the facade when removing, or grime/detritus since they put up mean the name is still distinguishable. And so to allow the complete removal, repairs to restore the facade to previous appearance might take a bit longer than simply jimmying off the offending letters with crowbars and oxy cutting.
Yes, quite possible. But that wouldn’t require tarps of such magnitude that the wall could not be seen at all from any angle.
My internal judgment is suspended for a while, a la Shroedinger and the cat.
It is around 1am Monday and still no independent confirmation, visually or otherwise. The Trump toady from the Kennedy Center is the only supposed source so far.
I could see that, but given that half the world is watching, a few pictures from behind the tarp showing that the name has been removed would go a long way in getting people off his case. On the other hand…can we see the Epstein Files? But actually on the other hand, if the name was still up, it seems just as likely that someone would’ve leaked some pictures of it. Come to think of it, I almost wonder if the workers aren’t allowed to have their phones on them. I guess at this point, regardless of whether his name is still there or not, that we haven’t seen any leaked pictures.
Upthread I posted a link to an instagram video from Congresswoman Joyce Beatty (D-Ohio) saying it’s down. She doesn’t show us nor does she state that she saw it with her own eyes, but it’s something.
Note that she is a member of the board of the Kennedy Center and was the plaintiff in the lawsuit forcing Trump’s name to be removed so I don’t think she’s lying. She may have seen behind the curtain.
