All of this discussion and no mention of the Muslims less than a year ago who robbed us of our most precious resource… 14 government workers in San Bernardino, CA. Did you forget that massacre? Was a thread even created about that horrific event? I think most Americans would like to see immigration reduced across the board. We might as well start with countries where large percentages of the population that want to commit terrorist acts against the USA.
Speaking as a Christian, I can emphatically say that it does not require this.
That’s not what Leviticus told me.
Leviticus 24:16
And he that blasphemeth the name of the LORD, he shall surely be put to death, [and] all the congregation shall certainly stone him: as well the stranger, as he that is born in the land, when he blasphemeth the name [of the LORD], shall be put to death.
Deuteronomy 17
If there be found among you, within any of thy gates which the LORD thy God giveth thee, man or woman, that hath wrought wickedness in the sight of the LORD thy God, in transgressing his covenant; 17:3 And hath gone and served other gods, and worshipped them, either the sun, or moon, or any of the host of heaven, which I have not commanded; 17:4 And it be told thee, and thou hast heard of it, and enquired diligently, and, behold, it be true, and the thing certain, that such abomination is wrought in Israel; 17:5 Then shalt thou bring forth that man or that woman, which have committed that wicked thing, unto thy gates, even that man or that woman, and shalt stone them with stones, till they die.
Leviticus 20:10
And the man that committeth adultery with another man’s wife, even he that committeth adultery with his neighbour’s wife, the adulterer and the adulteress shall surely be put to death.
Leviticus 20:9
For anyone who curses his father or his mother shall surely be put to death; he has cursed his father or his mother; his blood is upon him.
John 8:7 King James Version (KJV)
7 So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.
Most Christians believe that Jesus had some inside information about how exactly God meant Scripture to be interpreted.
So unless Mary comes along to cast the first stone, Christians are kind of stuck when it comes to stoning.
Those are all Old Testament passages.
So? It’s still in the Bible. Unless it’s OK for Believers to tear out the pages that tell them to do things they don’t want to, or forbid them from doing things they do want to.
You can’t say ‘We can edit our religion, but no other religions can edit theirs. Therefore, Islam is evil and tells followers to kill people; but when God tells us to kill people, then people are taking it out of context.’ This is basically what Trump is saying.
So Christians are supposed to follow Kosher law?
Do you go to church?
“It’s like you make a deal before you go into a poker game. And your odds are much better.”
I don’t know much about poker. What does he mean by this? A deal with who?
Christians expect Muslims to follow Islamic law to the letter. Therefore, Muslims are terrorists. This is the message put out by the far-right, and Trump reenforces it with his silly rants.
Of course a thread was started.
How will immigration keep out a natural born U.S. Citizen?
Pass a law requiring all Muslims to register with the government, the information being kept in a database. Require them to carry special identification that identify them as Muslims. Once they are identified, it should not be much of a problem to round them up and deport them. For natural-born U.S. citizens, perhaps they can be relocated to camps where they can freely practice their religion in a controlled environment.
Christian belief, for the past 2000 years, says that we are no longer living under the rules and penalty system of the old covenant. After the death of Christ, there’s a new covenant.
No one’s editing things on the fly here. This has been Christian doctrine for hundreds upon hundreds of years, thousands even. A simple Google search would explain things for you. But this discussion really has nothing to do with Trump being out there, so if you’d like to learn about and debate Christian theology, I suggest searching for one of the hundreds of threads that already exist.
Again, are you a Christian? If not, I’m not sure why you’re presuming to tell Christians what their beliefs are or what they should do.
Again, speaking as a Christian, with a lot of friends and family who are also Christians, I can emphatically say that this is, at best, a gross overstatement. But honestly, it’s just plain wrong. Why would Christians place requirements on Muslims to worship a certain way? Most Christians don’t even know Islamic law, so how could we make any sort of expectations of how Muslims are to live their lives? Maybe assholes do this, but assholes come in all stripes. Expecting “Muslims to follow Islamic law to the letter” is absolutely and positively not a “Christian” thing.
So if you are no longer bound by half of the Bible, why don’t you get rid of the offending half? If you’re not bound by the Old Testament, then why do Christians trot it out when they defend discrimination against gays?
No, I’m not a Christian. Nor a Muslim. Nor anything else. I need to see evidence.
Yes
I don’t think you understand the difference. The Bible is divided into two sections: Old Testament and New Testament. Most Christians are of the belief that the Old Testament is no longer to be followed as rule/law.
The Koran, on the other hand, as I understand it, is observed by Muslims in its entirety. So when those “right-wingers” point to passages in the Koran, they are pointing to a book that Muslims observe in its entirety.
Edited: Ninja’d!
Except when it suits them, of course.
Why do they trot things out? Possibly for the same reason anyone justifies their bigotry. To justify their bigotry and/or because they’re an asshole.
Why do Christians include the OT in their canon? Because our belief is that the entirety of it tells the story of the redemption of mankind through Jesus. Why do Americans keep a record of our laws/history even if some of it is unpleasant or no longer applicable today? Because it tells our story.
Bit of advice: You seem to think it’s wrong and/or presumptuous when Christians expect Muslims to worship a certain way. It’s equally wrong when an unbeliever expects or tells Christians to worship a certain way, and then tells us we’re not meeting your expectations.
Missing the point. I think the point ** Johnny L.A**. is making is that some Christians are saying “My religion says to ignore that part of the Bible, Muslims are told to follow it, thus they are terrorists.”
None of this is a rational defense of Trumps out of bounds statements.
Not really. And since when did terrorists sign on to the Geneva convention?
