I disagree with that completely. Mostly because most religious nuts are also emotionally fragile narcissists (or plan to become one someday.) Probably the only good thing about Trump is that, unlike 80% of Republicans, he’s not planning to supplant the U.S. Constitution with the King James Bible.
The problem with Trump “backtracking” (as I see it) is that the wacky crap he whipped up his crowds in frenzies with was never in his power to deliver without the legislature. And now the GOP-controlled legislature, having been given his 20,000-foot view of what he wants, are in a position to enact the wacky crap.
Even with his “backtracking,” only a fool would believe that he would veto a single bill.
He’s not “being more realistic” he’s just stop lying as much. I don’t believe for a second that he ever believed he would do half the crap he said he would.
