Good God. We’re going to have to fight the entire Civil Rights battle all over again in the next couple of years.
Two things; he’s not Rudy Giuliani, and does that mean he has to vacate his Senate seat?
Wonder what the chances are that Dems win a senate seat in Alabama? :dubious:
Fairly small, I would guess. A quick google search says Governor Bentley ® would appoint Sessions’s replacement. However, that might change at the mid-terms. Senator Sessions was elected to his current term in 2014, does the new appointee stay until 2020 or will Alabama hold a special election in 2018?
Or Cruz. However, I fear he’s saving Cruz for the Supreme Court. God help us
He would stay until the normal end of the term.
If Cruz was to be as wonderful with the other justices as he’s been with members of Congress maybe it would be fine.
I don’t know why Trump would nominate Cruz for the Supreme Court. It’s not in his interests in any way that I can discern, and quite visibly AGAINST his interests in several ways.
I figured he’d go for Giuliani but Sessions suits me just fine. And he’s worked well with Democrats too in the past.
.
I think Cruz still wants to be POTUS in 2020 or 2024, so, no.
Chris Christie would be nominated LOOOOOOONG before Cruz is.
According to ballotopedia, Alabama is one of 14 states that has a special election if a Senator leaves office. So the appointed replacement would only serve until that election.
So, I guess all this means that Trump will accept the results, after all?
Gets rid of him in politics and pleases the crazy ass base.
it’s a win-win. Hope I’m wrong.
Trump’s base isn’t Cruz’s base, and Trump cares only for himself.
Cruz would be a really tough sell to get past a Senate that despises him. I am sure Trump could appease conservatives with any number of religious zealots who Trump hasn’t had a public feud with. Trump wants to make deals with Congress; his thing is to butter you up before he screws you. He isn’t going to send a nominee before the Senate he knows they hate.
You’re funny.
The Senate would love to get rid of Ted Cruz, and the SCOTUS would be the perfect win-win for all. Cruz knows he can’t be president probably for at least another 8 years and given the fatigue that voters have with 2-term presidents, he’s realistically looking at 12-16 years at minimum. His chances have pretty much passed him by. For him, being able to legislate from the bench would be the next best thing. And the Senate would rejoice in knowing there would be no more Dr Seuss bedtime stories on the floor.
They despise him, yes, which is why getting rid of him and sending him to the bench makes all the more sense.
I’m sure somebody has explained to Trump that he can’t serve as the President and a Supreme Court Justice. So he has to pick somebody outside his base.
Actually, offering to place Cruz somewhere outside the Senate could be a strong selling point.
As for Jefferson (as in Confederate President Jefferson Davis) Beauregard (as in Confederate General PGT Beauregard) Sessions, I said this on election night, and I’ve probably said it before:

If you think I’m being alarmist or a chicken little, that’s fine, but I’ll tell you that you’re being naive.
