Trump nominates Jeff Sessions for AG

I think he’s seriously weighing number two but for whatever reason hasn’t pulled the trigger on it. Might be why he’s hounding Sessions so hard – Donny wants Beauregard to be the villain so he can keep his distance and wipe his hands of it. For all we know, he may have already had that conservation with people in his administration - including Sessions - who might have told the Don in no uncertain terms that it would be a ludicrous idea if he did it. In fact I wonder if Sessions has already told Trump “Sorry, but I ain’t touching that one.” Again, Sessions is a former federal prosecutor. He knows he’d be gambling everything he has to follow Trump into that sewer and do his dirty work for him. Sessions isn’t going to fire everyone who’s anyone in the DoJ and Bureau to save someone who’s now flogging him in public. It’s shit like this that really and truly makes me question Trump’s grasp of reality.

It’s not that Trump is insane, it’s that he’s overwhelmed.

I must not be the only person in this thread who’s found himself in a job where I simply don’t know enough to do the job; you start ANY complex job in that situation, and sometimes people get into jobs where they have no hope of figuring it out because it’s beyond their skill set.

In such situations, people will often react in many of the ways Trump is reacting:

1. Balking at doing the job at all (Hello, golf course!)
2. Returning over and over to familiar, easier tasks - note how Trump has already started holding campaign rallies, something he’s very good at.
3. Assigning blame to external parties, which Trump has always done but he’s getting worse.
4. Clinging to co-workers with whom one is personally comfortable, and avoiding ones one is not especially familiar with.

He visited Mar A Lago his second weekend in office. Hardly time to get fed up with it. I think he planned all along to take off every weekend.

The difference in the case of Trump is that while many outsiders can figure out that he’s overwhelmed and doesn’t know enough to do the job, it doesn’t appear that Trump himself realizes any of that.

By all indication he thinks he’s more than capable of doing the job - and any other job that might exist - with one arm tied behind his back, and thinks he’s a Gulliver tied down by Lilliputians, who are getting on his nerves.

[My son told me a few of his pals were hanging around at a Trump-owned hotel a couple of years ago when Trump himself came in with some staff. Trump made a big show of making all sorts of design comments about the place like “move that painting a few feet over to the left …”, and so on. These kids scoffed at the notion that Trump was any sort of design expert, but he was taking himself very seriously. Later they met him outside on his golf cart and he posed for a picture with them and then said “now go out there and make some money!!!”]

But the “public” and Congress, and the NY state attorney general are not his employees and he can’t fire the whole world.

He’s a narcissistic psychopath, and his flunkies can’t hide it so good now. He was NEVER a great brain, a great deal maker, a great businessman, a great anything. His entire life he was just running on bullshit.

According to this article there may be another advantage to having Sessions quit:

But there’s a catch.

“The statute says that it applies when the current officeholder ‘dies, resigns or is otherwise unable to perform the functions and duties of the office,’” he said. “That suggests that there might be a difference and the Act might not apply if the person is fired.” So if Trump gets Sessions to quit, Rick Perry could be made acting attorney general. If Sessions is fired? It’s less clear.

That seems like pretty sophisticated strategy for the guy who fired Comey, but it’s not impossible that he has some legal adviser who is actually not incompetent and convinced him this was his best strategy.
