Trump Pit Thread

Really? Well if it was so clear, why don’t you explain what my disdain for these pussified students has to do with David Cameron, because I still don’t get it and Derleth himself can’t seem to explain it either.

I’m 33. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I’m pretty sure, based on what I’ve read of your posts, that you’re older than I am. For me - at least, as it pertains to campus culture - “the good old days” were a mere 14 years ago. That’s when I was a student. Back then we had real shit to protest. We had better things to do than barricade ourselves in the Dean’s office wailing about how hard done by we are because we saw the word Trump.

But look at the grounds on which he’s defending them. He isn’t saying that they have good arguments. He’s saying “They’re a bunch of bullies but bullying works so fuck you”. That’s a weird stance. I’ve never met anyone who is pro-bully before.

You think writing ‘TRUMP 2016’ in chalk on a sidewalk is “bigotry and hate”? Seriously?

And North Korea is a Democratic Republic. It says so in the name!

So…what are you saying? These kids think they’re in pain, but actually they’re wrong? They’re mistaken about that? Get it straight: I’m not opposed to their arguments. I can’t be. They’re not making any. I’m contemptuous of their claim that they’re “in paaaaaain” because someone, somewhere on their campus, likes Donald Trump. Either they are in pain, or they aren’t. If they aren’t, then they’re liars. If they are, then they’re utter cowards. Either way, they’re pathetic.

No shit.

Objection. Assuming facts not in evidence.

You think the majority of people would be traumatised (their word) if they saw the word Trump?

They certainly don’t care about the right of anyone who disagrees with them to express themselves. That’s pretty damn selfish.

No. What frustrates me is that these little assholes are redefining the word ‘liberal’ to mean “Cosseted, self-centered, intolerant, millennial douchebag who thinks feelings are more important than facts, and that they’re the only people who deserve to be heard.”

Fuck that. And fuck them for making the rest of us look bad.

Have you checked the multiple anti-Bernie threads?

In your view, is all criticism of Trump off limits, or are only Republicans allowed to criticize the Trump?

If your only objection is that there is just too much criticism of Trump overall, could you let us know how many posts (or how many words) may be used to criticize Trump here before we go over the limit?

Lastly, why the fuck do you even care? Trump seems to be doing just fine in the primaries, despite having a whole Pit thread about him. Of course, his closest rival has been referred to as “Lucifer in the flesh” by a prominent member of his own party, so that may have something to do with it.

Well done, Tithonus.

The only thing that makes you look bad is you. You’re making blatantly anti-liberal arguments, while whining about how liberal is being redefined.

I am, in fact, a couple years younger than you. But the difference is small enough that I know what liberalism was like when you were in college. And it was definitely pro-PC, not this anti-PC garbage you are spewing all over this thread. People assume you must be older, since you seem to adhere to a liberalism that hasn’t existed in forever. Not since liberal became synonymous with progressive, at any rate.

You were the one making “might makes right” arguments. That’s why Derleth made those arguments back at you. You want to call these kids weak, he points out that they are actually much stronger than you. Your solution to the “problem” was to have the dean flex his muscle. A liberal who is actually for having authorities strong arm protesters rather than talk with them? Really?

And I did explain Derleth’s post in my first paragraph. I didn’t think I had to specifically spell out that Cameron is Conservative politician who makes the same anti-PC bullshit arguments you make. Regardless, he is one of many people who is trying to hold on to a world that never was.

It’s not complicated, as I said. These kids are fighting against bigotry. They may overreact, but they are doing what’s right. If being associated with them makes you look bad in the eyes of the people you hang out with, then you hang out with some shitty people.

You have become a conservative, trying to preserve what you think liberal means, when the whole point is that it marches on. And it already has moved past where you are.

Wanting things to go back the way they were in the past is the literal definition of conservatism.

That would be the literal definition of “reactionary”.

Trump getting elected might just be worth it if it means getting to see BigT’s head explode.

That and a bunch of other self righteous wankers “leaving” the country.

Another funny thing would be to see what they say when they find out that they cannot simply move to Canada. We actually have immigration policies, almost like we’re an independent country or something!

WTF does someone writing “TRUMP 2016” (in CHALK, for Christ sakes!) have to do with social justice? How is that bigotry? That’s not overreacting, that’s full on batshit. Like it or not, their classmates have every right to support Trump. Whining about it “waaaah, seeing someone support a political candidate hurts my feelings!” is indeed being a crybaby. I believe college is a time when you’re supposed to be exposed to new ideas – even ones that may offend you. (At least that’s how it was when I was there – and it looks like I’m older than you). These little brats are no different from the idiots who want to be excused from assignments that offend their religious beliefs. You’re not at college to be coddled – you’re there to have your ideas tested. No, you don’t have a right to be shielded from it. (Hell, what do these kids do when they see a Trump bumperstick on someone’s car, have a freaking panic attack?)

Wanna fight for social justice? Fine, go work with abused kids. Volunteer at a homeless shelter. But the reason the phrase “SJW” has become an insult is because most of these idiots don’t care about actual justice, just about being exposed to things they disagree with. We have a word for that: censorship. They want to criticize Trump and his supporters? Go right ahead? Demand that they not be allowed to speak, or out right ask for counseling at the very idea that Trump supporters exist? That’s fucking bullshit. How the hell do these kids manage to dress themselves everyday?

Calm down, Grandma.

Personally I don’t think that would make up for the massive economic disruption and wave of job losses caused by Trump cancelling NAFTA.

It would certainly be a hoot to see Trump try to cancel NAFTA, or indeed to try to re-open any trade agreement.

I remember way, way back before Donald Trump was even remotely significant to me. And him bragging about how he screwed Merv Griffin on a hotel deal, because he was so much smarter. I remember thinking, what kind of asshole brags about shafting someone?

The Republican nominee for President. Christ, what an imagination I’ve got!

We should do an “over/under” on this thread, how long it will get before the actual election. Which is, Goddess help us all, six months away! What, a hundred pages?

Bet the GOP now wishes it hadn’t spent a generation radicalizing its base via AM radio, conflating compromise with abject surrender, celebrating anti-intellectualism and oversimplified answers, portraying government as the enemy, coddling bigots and racists, and embracing torture. A party of ethical adults would have nipped that Birther nonsense in the bud, and Donald Trump would still be a reality TeeVee star instead of the leader of the dying American “conservative” movement.

Right wing radio personality and Cruz supporter Steve Deace renounced his membership in the Republican Party, and called Donald Trump “Louis Farrakhan for white people.”

I am sure The Donald wouldn’t let Congress get in his way. You don’t think Donald Trump gives a shit about the separation of powers, do you? Executive orders by the truckload, baby.

This is exactly right. The Republican party deserves Trump. Our country does, in my opinion.

What did the rest of the country do?!

Like there was any other way they could have gotten this far?! Biz-friendly economic policies are not enough to rouse a base.
