Said it before and will say it again - enipla : “He has bought his way into every relationship, and out of every courtroom”
And now he’s stacking the courts in his favor.
That is what he does. That’s all he knows how to do.
If NBC hadn’t cancelled the dreck called “The Apprentice” we wouldn’t be in this mess. THAT is how ‘patriotic’ and pathetic Trump is. He must have attention. Conning people out of money or stealing cookies is now a business arm of the White House.
He conned banks into hundreds of millions of dollars, and he won a presidential election despite spending much less than his opponents. You can say what you want, but he has mastered the art of bullshit - that’s a skill. Whether it’s the skill that a republic should value or hold in high regard is a different matter entirely.
Any investor who loaned money to a man who declared bankruptcy six times qualifies as stupid. So does anyone who voted for Donald Trump.
And I question the part about how much was spent. Keep in mind there’s a difference between the money that was spent by the Trump campaign and the money that was spent for the Trump campaign. There’s a lot of dark money that doesn’t get counted in the official reported figures.
God, I’m telling asahi he’s not being cynical enough about the Republicans. Definitely a sign I need to turn off the computer and take a break.
Yes, this. Sorry Little Nemo but conning people, even stupid people, is not something anyone can do. It’s a special skill requiring showmanship and Charisma. Trump has both. When I saw the end of the RNC in 2016 and Trump ended his speech by saying “She wants you to say ‘I’m with her’ but I’m here to tell you ‘I’m with you’” and scanned the room making eye contact with individual audience members I had to say "Holy shit, that man is going to be the next president. Especially when I saw Hillary’s forced rictus and her air of “I can’t believe getting my destined seat requires me to spend time with you plebians.”
He hosted a TV show for more than 10 seasons. You won’t be able to do that if you don’t have charisma. He even had a catch phrase!
He was the perfect candidate for our debased campaign season. He dominated those stupid debates. He realized they aren’t about substantive issues but about zingers and gotchas. Bringing grade school insults was genius. “Little Marco,” “Lyin’ Ted Cruz,” the audience ate it up. Remember he didn’t just beat Clinton, He beat Rubio, Jeb!, and Kaisich. Ted Cruz is the real deal, an actual far right Christian conservative, and Trump beat him too! (And, God, may I mention again how shitty and destructive to Democracy that “debate” format is.)
Trump is an incompetent President, a profoundly dull ignorant insecure corrupt and evil person, but he has exactly the skill set to get him to where he is.
Less than 50% approval. But HIS highest, sure. For what it’s worth. He “won” the election with less than 50% of the vote, so maybe that’s all the dumbass needs in a game that’s rigged like he likes it.
Conmanship and dipshit charisma. It’s not a general-purpose kind of charisma; it’s a kind that only works on idiots.
And they aren’t skills, either. That would imply some kind of training or self-improvement. They’re just the innate qualities of a narcissist, and work on anybody that’s too fucking stupid to see that there’s no actual substance behind the presentation.
I disagree. Like the saying goes, you can fool all of the people some of the time - that’s what takes showmanship and charisma. But the some of the people you can fool all of the time? By definition, they can always be fooled and all it takes is a willingness to do it.
Yes, Donald Trump is right up there with Maury Povitch.
Australia (where I live), swings far to the left of the USA, and it’s unlikely that Trump or TR would be elected here, and it’s my opinion that Trump will not get a Nobel peace prize like TR. But I note the historical precedent.
So you say. It doesn’t matter, we’re just two randos arguing on an obscure message board. But I hope the Democratic party doesn’t dismiss him like this. They’ve already chosen to run a mealy-mouthed buffoon against him. I guarantee you his charisma doesn’t work just on idiots.
We can have a lengthy pointless semantic argument about what a skill is. It doesn’t matter. If you want to say his charm is innate, fine by me. The point is it works. Lots of entertainers have it, and so do some politicians. Obama has it, so does Sanders. Biden does not. People, even smart people, fall for charm all the time. If they didn’t Trump would just be a slumlord in NYC that no one had ever heard of.
I don’t know what this means. All Trump needs is to fool enough people to win the electoral college. He did it in 2016 and will probably do it in 2020.
Yes they both had successful TV shows, though Trump was in prime time. Maybe Maury should run for president. I’ve heard Oprah’s name being tossed around. I’ll bet she’d do better than most Democrats.
You act as if the Democratic party gets the final choice in candidate. For all of Bernie’s charisma (and personally, it’s of a totally different nature than Trump’s or even Obama’s; it’s one borne of a depth of conviction), it didn’t actually translate into votes. It’s the Minimum Viable Candidate that got the votes. It’s almost as if the base of one party responds to different signals than the base of the other party.
Recently though its been cratering pretty hard (at least for Trump). Net %Approval-%Disapproval = -13.8
It was -13.9 on November 4th 2019, other than that one day, you would have to go all the way back to January 2019 before you get worse poll numbers. It may not last, but its nice to know that he is paying at least some small price for his recent incompetence.
Hmmm. If time travel ever comes to be, here’s another place to intervene.[ul]
