I know that I’M the delusional one when I think this, but I guess I’m still optimistic, in some small way - I keep wondering when his natural fabulist tendencies lead him to make some claim in front of his fans that is just too much for even them, and like the naked emperor that he is, the fans all awaken and notice his dick is hanging out.

Trump has been a coward all his life. Everyone who’s known him since he was a child knows he’ll run from any conflict unless it’s rigged in his favor. His father sent him to military school to try to toughen him up but he remained a cry-baby. That’s why I never believed that Access Hollywood thing was anything but talk. He’s afraid to grab his own pussy much less a woman he’s not paying.
This weakens his own argument that teachers need to be armed. If every school room had a hotline to the Oval Office they could call up the prez whenever there is a shooting and he’d come right on over to take care of business.
He’s a classic chicken hawk; he loves to talk tough but will never risk his own skin. He only risks the lives of others.
Also he’s out of shape enough that he’d probably collapse if he tried running anywhere.

I know that I wouldn’t have run in, because I would already be in. I’m a teacher.
As to what I would have done, I like to think that I would lock and barricade the door, stuff a textbook under my shirt, grab something I could use as a club, and wait by the barricade. Would I actually do that, or would I just freeze up? I don’t know for certain, and I hope I never find out.

Well, I know what I would have done. I knew someone who was in the classroom when a disaffected student (he’d been working towards a PhD for at least ten years and not getting anywhere) came in with a pistol and started shooting. I asked what he did. “I hid under a desk.” (The students advisor was killed, the student shot himself, and one other person lost one of his pinkies.)
Trump? No way.
Cory Booker? Yeah, I’d believe that.
At least Trump seems to be condemning the shooter. That’s progress. A few months ago, he would have said we should be considering the points of view of both sides.
Yeah, same. I’d like to imagine that I’d nobly put my life on the line and do all I could to stop the shooter, save the kids, etc. I’d also like to think that I’d hide Jews in Nazi occupied Poland and help slaves across into the northern states, throw myself on a grenade, etc. Truth is that I don’t know.
Nearly everyone claims that they’d do whatever it took. Reality suggests that most are wrong in practice. I doubt Trump would do shit in a real situation but I don’t hold that against him since that’s the norm. On the other hand, trying to act like a tough guy about it is pretty eye-rolling. And, as president, Trump is in a unique position to take real action against future shootings which he won’t do because he’s probably more afraid of the NRA than he is a teenager with an AR-15.
