Trump to be nominated for Nobel Peace Prize

Like when I got a medal from the fire department for putting out a house fire and getting the family to safety after I set their house on fire in hopes of getting a medal for putting it out and saving their lives.

Trump’s ‘brokered’ a lot of those types of deals.

Actually, that should’ve been “Greenland, Canada, and Panama”. But Mexico better watch it, too.

No, there is a small select list of who can nominate for any science prize. Literature is looser, and the Peace is pretty wide open- as @Northern_Piper psted.. Which is why just getting nominated for say the Prize in Chemistry is quite a honor. Getting nominated for the peace prize is nothing.

The only one I know about is Economics. And in Economics you get a form and are asked to nominate. I’ve gotten the form and used it 3 times. I declined the 4th as I had been retired for several years.

There’s a headline today about how Hillary Clinton wants to nominate Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize if he can successfully negotiate an end to the Ukraine war:

Although she seems sincere enough in the article, I have to wonder if this is a masterful display of trolling with the intention of making Trump not want a Nobel Peace Prize. She is telling him to stand up to Putin if he wants the shiny thing as a reward but she must know that there’s no way he’ll actually do it.

Hillary Clinton is just as narcissistic as Donald Trump (if not as overtly contemptuous of everyone and not nearly as racist) and just desperately wants a bit of spotlight from the Demagogue of the Day.

Ugh.

Stranger

The quote from Secretary Clinton, “If he could end it, without putting Ukraine in a position where it had to concede its territory to the aggressor, had to, in a way, validate Putin’s vision of greater Russia, but instead could really stand up to Putin…. I’d nominate him for a Nobel Peace Prize.”

And I am no fan of Donald Trump, but I have to agree. Though it seems really unlikely he will do so.

Basically, she’s saying, “There is no fucking way I would every nominate a yoke like Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize,” while actually seeming to say the opposite.

And then her supporters wonder why almost nobody believes anything she says.

Stranger

Like a lot of politicians today, Clinton is speaking to an audience of one.

It really doesn’t matter what she says; she’s pretty much irrelevant.

Well, she got a major news org to cover what she said, so that proves she is no such thing,

I mean, she’s not wrong. A statement of the form “If A, then B”, is true, if A is always false.

Yeah. In the presser today he referred to stopping wars like it’s his hobby. Trump kept referring to his 6 successes. Well let’s see - Afghanistan if he takes credit for the pullout - then what? Perhaps the unconditional surrender of Iran?

Do the Ig Nobel people do a peace prize?

They have more integrity than to give a prize to an autocrat with fascist tendencies. Unlike, say, the Norwegian Nobel Committee.

Yeah perhaps the laugh and think thing doesn’t apply here.

Alfred Nobel stipulated that it was to be awarded to the person “who shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses”.

Given these criteria, a case can be made for giving the prize to President Macron, Prime Minister Meloni, Chancellor Merz, Prime Minister Starmer, President Stubb, Prime Minister Tusk, President Costa, and President von der Leyen. At extremely short notice they dropped all their other urgent responsibilities to attend today a peace congress not directly involving their own nation.

Even if by some miracle Trump manages to end the Ukrainian war tomorrow, he’s still not going to get the Nobel Peace Prize this year, as it’s just too late. Still, I’d love to be a fly on the wall when the announcement is made, just to see how much he freaks out.

AP breaks down the claim here. A couple are at least semi-legitimate examples of Trump brokering an end to an active conflict, but most are either exaggerating Trump’s importance, or just flat-out bullshit.
