Having and or wanting Benjamin Netanyahu and Vladimir Putin on the board tells you how serious Trump is about peace. IOW, not at all. It really is an Orwellian effort.
But he cares about the one billion entrance fee that he will pocket personally.
The whole article merits a read, but I will highlight this:
The U.N. Security Council in November adopted a resolution backing Trump’s proposed board to set the framework and coordinate funding for Gaza’s redevelopment, though it only authorized the board’s mandate until 2027.
and this
“Each Member State shall serve a term of no more than three years from this Charter’s entry into force, subject to renewal by the Chairman. The three-year membership term shall not apply to Member States that contribute more than USD $1,000,000,000 in cash funds to the Board of Peace within the first year of the Charter’s entry into force,” the draft reportedly says.
In addition to the temper tanTrump, the founding document was signed by representatives from Bahrain, Morocco, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Argentina, Armenia, Hungary, Indonesia, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, Pakistan, Paraguay, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Uzbekistan, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates and Mongolia. Russia will follow, but they are not allowed entry into Switzerland because of war crimes. Belarus the same. China and India want a discount to zero and a share in the loot.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio delivered a eulogy for Trump.
But hear me out, maybe they will use all those billions on rebuilding Gaza. Because they are not using it for the design of their logo. Probably told an intern to ai-slop-it-up for a couple of hours.
Straight latitudes are weak and boring. Our latitudes are going places and getting things done! Maybe one of them hit Greenland and mined all their precious minerals, because something happened to that poor island.
If the control of this thing transferred to the new US president, it might have some long-term use. But since it’s so clearly tied to Trump, the man, the second he’s out of office, it will be utterly worthless. I look forward to the schadenfreude of watching all the “member states” drop him like a hot potato as soon as he stops being president.
Tony Blair is a creature of the kinds of global institutions Trump has done so much to destroy. And by now, he really ought to be aware that everything Trump touches dies. Yet he was one of the first to lend his name to this travesty!
That’s what you think.
Me, I believe this is his “way in”/“loophole” in his delusional mind.
“Oh, I’m not president anymore? Doesn’t matter, I’m still the leader of the Board of Peace, thus I have a hand and say in how the US is run and decisions made for it. I have the power to take action on the US for things I don’t like.”
I doubt that’ll have any merit but in his fantasy scenario, it probably does and I have no doubt he’ll try it if he thinks he can get away with it or that it will work.
That works for him as president, because he has all the legacy systems of the US at his disposal. What will the BoP have? Armies? Navies? Boy Scouts with pointed sticks?
I have no doubt Trump is going to try to stay president no matter how he can, but ultimately I think he will fail at this and will not be allowed another term.
But this board of Peace position I have no doubt he is going to fight tooth and nail to keep. I feel like you are going to have to try to pry it out of his cold dead hands. It doesn’t really matter if he’s president anymore, this is not a chair that I see him giving up willingly. He has established in his mind this is a new organization for the world, and he is the leader of it, and I don’t see the US getting a new president as him saying “oh, okay, you can replace me then.”
You question what backup he’ll have, but I answer …well, …a lot of the armies of the other countries that are involved, but more importantly, every single person in the US that is his “fanbase”, the ones that eat and lick up everything he says and believes it everyday. The MAGA crowd. The ones that he sent to try to take over the Capitol building that day. And that was just the people in the area at the time. Imagine if all the MAGA supporters the nation over agreed with Donald Trump (who was head of his “Board of Peace” but not president anymore) who currently disagreed with the current president.
Scenario. Let’s say, luck willing, that the next president we have is a Democrat. Now let’s say a really big issue comes up where the Democrat is saying one thing, but Trump, as head of the “Board of Peace”, is saying another…
Who do you think the MAGA base are going to side with? Yes, our side will have the army and the Navy and the Marines and the national guard and all that,…
But if Trump makes noises about how the other side is trying to steal things or get away with things or that they should pay for what they’re doing or that they should be punished, blah blah blah, I just feel like it’s going to be easy to start a civil war that way. If you have millions of people in the streets all supporting Donald Trump and rioting at the same time… That’s not going to be good. Granted that is absolute worst case scenario.
This is basically just one person talking for an hour but the Lawfare Podcast overview was pretty thorough and fair towards all the entities involved:
I’m not sure that there’s any one takeaway except that it’s an interesting thing. Maybe, the unique structure is what’s needed to actually accomplish something (you’re generally not going to see Jared Kushner in there if it’s not a real project with real promise). But for that very reason, it’s relatively plausible that the Israelis or the Muslims (Turks, Egyptians, etc.) will sink the whole thing. A thing that works and fixes problems is often antithetical to local interests.
I hope that it works. I won’t be surprised that it doesn’t.
If it does work, I’ll point to Kushner. Dude gets shit done.
Well they understood the assignment. Gaudy gold, and clearly focused on the US.
The only notes I have are the woke shield and laurel wreath. How did they get through!? Crossed AR-15s would have better indicated peace through strength.
Yeah, and stretched out sideways, it looks so bloated. And obviously ripped off of the UN logo.
But gilded, like everything Trump does! Also, let’s put a shield in there, because we are manly men and rough and tough, just like the US Department of “War”; posturing is essential.
It really does seem like Trump just said, “Hey fellas, who wants to join my Peace Club for a billion dollars?” I expect it’ll be just another grift like his NFT and memecoins, and won’t even try to actually exert political power.
