It’s time for a separate thread on Trump’s “Board of Peace.”
Here we examine the question: Can swords be beaten into ploughshares by the world’s biggest loose cannon?
Which countries and which politicians associate themselves with this new institution will be revealing.
Also worth noting is how much control the “Board of Peace” charter has assigned to Trump himself.
And how does the “BOP” interact or compete with the UN, or at least the UN Security Council? I don’t see why we need both.
In other words, totally useless. Not a single hostile party would (or should) ever comply with such a BS board.
Having and or wanting Benjamin Netanyahu and Vladimir Putin on the board tells you how serious Trump is about peace. IOW, not at all. It really is an Orwellian effort.
But he cares about the one billion entrance fee that he will pocket personally.
The whole article merits a read, but I will highlight this:
The U.N. Security Council in November adopted a resolution backing Trump’s proposed board to set the framework and coordinate funding for Gaza’s redevelopment, though it only authorized the board’s mandate until 2027.
and this
“Each Member State shall serve a term of no more than three years from this Charter’s entry into force, subject to renewal by the Chairman. The three-year membership term shall not apply to Member States that contribute more than USD $1,000,000,000 in cash funds to the Board of Peace within the first year of the Charter’s entry into force,” the draft reportedly says.
bolding mine.
In addition to the temper tanTrump, the founding document was signed by representatives from Bahrain, Morocco, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Argentina, Armenia, Hungary, Indonesia, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, Pakistan, Paraguay, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Uzbekistan, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates and Mongolia. Russia will follow, but they are not allowed entry into Switzerland because of war crimes. Belarus the same. China and India want a discount to zero and a share in the loot.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio delivered a eulogy for Trump.
But hear me out, maybe they will use all those billions on rebuilding Gaza. Because they are not using it for the design of their logo. Probably told an intern to ai-slop-it-up for a couple of hours.
Straight latitudes are weak and boring. Our latitudes are going places and getting things done! Maybe one of them hit Greenland and mined all their precious minerals, because something happened to that poor island.
If the control of this thing transferred to the new US president, it might have some long-term use. But since it’s so clearly tied to Trump, the man, the second he’s out of office, it will be utterly worthless. I look forward to the schadenfreude of watching all the “member states” drop him like a hot potato as soon as he stops being president.
